Rougabrew Coffee is what happens when an MMA fighter, an interior designer, and someone with a genuine passion for coffee decide to open a coffee shop.
Dark, inviting, unapologetically different, and incredibly well thought out.
The menu is both complex and simple at the same time. Every drink feels intentional, built around flavor instead of simply loading it with sugar and syrups. It doesn't taste like someone trying to recreate Starbucks--it tastes like a team asking themselves, "What coffee drinks do we wish existed that nobody else makes?" Then they went out and created them.
That's exactly what they've done.
Every drink expands your palate. You'll try combinations you probably wouldn't order anywhere else, only to realize they're incredibly balanced. The coffee itself never gets lost behind sweetness. Every ingredient has a purpose, and it shows. It's the kind of place that makes you realize there are still new flavors and combinations to discover.
The shop itself is small, and that's part of its charm. Think of it as a place to experience great coffee rather than spend hours on your laptop. The service is quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming.
You'll probably drive right past it the first time. You'll park on a residential street, walk over, and wonder if you're in the right place.
You are.
Get there before noon.
If you're staying in Metairie and your hotel serves Starbucks, skip it. Drive five minutes instead and discover why a small neighborhood coffee shop has developed such a loyal following. Places like this don't survive because they're convenient--they survive because they're exceptional and because the surrounding neighborhood has embraced them.
I love coffee, and this will be my first stop every time I'm back in town.
If you're a local, I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know.
If you're visiting, don't miss it. This isn't just another coffee shop--it's a reminder that the best places are often the ones you'd never find unless someone told you about them. read more
