a cup of coffee and a plate of food
Jody K.

After reading all the reviews of Rosy's, I decided to try it. It's very much a small town restaurant where people seem to know each other, but even just travelling through, I felt very comfortable and welcomed. The menu had lots of options, but I decided on what I called "boring" : eggs, sausage patties and potatoes. The server, however, called it classic. There was only one cook working at the time, so it took a while for the food to be served, but the most important part -- the coffee! -- came right away. Once my food came, I was astounded: the sausage patties were each almost the size of hamburgers! and they were perfectly seasoned as well. The eggs and toast were pretty standard, but they were cooked just like I ordered them. The potatoes were like shoestring potatoes -- kind of between hash browns and French fries. They were pretty good as well. Definitely worth visiting. They only take cash, but if you don't have any on you, there is an ATM machine at the front of the restaurant.

Our waitress was the sweetest person I've ever met. The cook was really nice too. All the customers were accommodating to our party of 6 and getting a table to fit all of us. The food is really good. I'm recovering from wisdom teeth surgery and the food was soft enough for me to not have any issues :)

Local diner downtown. Very busy on the Sunday Morning we were traveling through. My husband got 1 pancake. It was huge, As large as a dinner plate! I got the veggie Skillet, which isn't on the menu, but they were willing to make me. I'm gluten intolerant and they did not really have any gluten friendly breakfast options except eggs, meat, potatoes, etc. Would not recommend for someone with Celiac. The food was excellent! Worth the wait!

Busy grill!

Hands down the best breakfast in Escanaba. The cinnamon rolls are a treat. Super nice folks that run Rosy's.

Does Rosy's Diner have booths or just bar stools?

I believe there are just tables and not booths. My memory might not be correct. But you do not have to sit up on the bar stools.

Oh, man. No? Nobody? Just me? Damnit. The silver lining? A wonderful breakfast meal and cheap to boot! Since I realized I'm part idiot (and not the good part), I decided to eat breakfast at my accidental restaurant. Mostly because I was already sitting in the booth and did NOT want to admit defeat. And boy howdy, am I glad I did! I ordered the French toast, eggs, and bacon. Two toasts, two eggs, and about three bacons. And a breakfast Coke (which is normal coke, but in the morning). First off, the eggs. I only eat scrambled eggs because I'm a child. Salt and pepper, then into my mouth. I don't like creamy scrambled eggs and I don't like scrambled eggs that get that weird skin on them for cooking too long. These ones were perfect. I garbled them down. My trick is to heavily salt and pepper them THEN cut them up and mix them together to disperse the seasoning. Eggs 10/10 The French toast? Perfect. Good size slices, a ball of butter on top (thankfully enough to spread over all four triangles), and a ramekin of syrup. They were the perfect portions. The FT (French toast) had the best sponginess and fluffiness. French Toast (FT) 10/10 Finally. The bacon. Look. I am a huss for bacon. I'll do some shady sh** for some good bacon. But I ain't going back to prison. I always ALWAYS request my bacon be floppy. Some places call it limp. I call mine floppy. Because I'm a professional. A lot of places struggle on what floppy should look like. I've had floppy bacon I could put through a plate glass window. I've broken a piece of floppy bacon on a table edge and shanked somebody (see prior prison comment). But here? This place? Sweetie pie, I could tie my shoes with this bacon it's so floppy. I could lasso a baby calf with this floppy a** bacon. If you don't believe me, I attached a photo of what floppy bacon should look like. Professional Floppy Bacon 12/10. I would also like to mention the Coke this place served was top tier. It's like it's chilled prior to coming out the fountain dispenser. It just went down SO smooth. Drink some. Also. It's a medium-quiet place. Family friendly. Has that down home look and feel.

My fiance has ordered the country fried steak (his favorite) along with the Reuben (also his favorite). I am vegetarian so I always order the veggie sandwich with curly fries. It's to die for. The sauce is yummy and it's served on rye bread. I order it every time I am in town. It's the sandwich you can't get tired of. I really appreciate that the diner offers a vegetarian option. You don't really find family-oriented and delicious diners so this one is very special to my heart. Also, don't leave without a slice of pie! They are homemade and delicious. My favorites are the coconut cream pie, blueberry, and apple. It's like your going to grandma's house for a holiday dinner there. Come hungry! :) Also, thank you Jack's and everyone who works there. I always feel so good coming in. I just can't say enough about this place. Your dear friend from Chicago. :)

After reading the menu my cousin and my wife and I selected items for dining. The waiter urged…read moreselection of 3 sides for my cousin - and, since my wife likes sweet potato fries, added the sweet potato fries to her order for steak and shrimp plus 3 sides. I ordered the cod and 2 sides (reduced to two pieces of cod) from the same menu. at that time, NO mention was made of price changes for the sides. We think - if the menu says 3 sides included - that they should not incur an 'add-on' charge - the word INCLUDED doesn't mention additional cost. those that incur a cost should be separated from the selections that are included, and not listed mixed into the included ones. We dined, but the waiter apparently does not have much experience - and had to be asked for steak sauce, and shrimp sauce. Those normally are either offered at time of order - or brought with the steak and shrimp. When I received the bill, I was surprised that the "included sides" had been charged and the price for them changed from what shows on the menu. When I protested that isn't what the menu states - the other waiter (older and maybe more experienced), said that the owner increased prices on the add-on sides. I replied, "that isn't what the menu lists and I'm not paying for increases not listed." I consider this deceptive advertising - it would have taken only a few minutes to adjust their printed menu prices with an ink pen and be 'up front' with diners about the prices one is expected to pay. I wonder how long it will take before the prices are either inked in to be accurate or reprinted menus provided... I don't know what others think about this, or how many others actually look at the prices - - but I plan to find other places to dine out when I come to visit my cousin for a couple weeks a year. The bar two doors over has great food too - and their menu reflects the prices that are on your bill. I looked at the Jacks online menu today, May 8, and the higher prices for add-on sides shows there. The increases/changes are not reflected in the in-restaurant printed menus as of May 7. Things like that might have something to do with the rather sparse turnout last evening or it could be some other factor in play. Years ago, Jacks was always crowded when we came to visit.

We are on a family vacation to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This included my daughter in law…read moreand granddaughter visiting the area for the first time in their lives. We wanted to visit Escanaba to see a beach, at Ludington Park, and a view of Lake Michigan, more or less (of the bay). We wanted to find a nice, casual dining place for 5 adults and our five year old. My son looked online and suggested Hereford and Hops. They seemed to have a good variety of food and a location less than a mile from the park. When you walk in the sign asks you to wait to be seated. Our server greeted us and took us to our table. She took the beverage order and made sure the child beverage had a lid to it. The menu has a variety of options, including appetizers, dinner salads, pizza, pasta, and entrees and daily specials. It was Wednesday and the special was a half rack of BBQ ribs and a potato. They had fish and seafood options, and my wife and I chose breaded shrimp. My Daughter in law wanted the BLT with a side of in-house homemade potato chips and a dish of French onion dip. My granddaughter requested the children's burger and fries. All of the entrees came with a choice of garden or Caesar salad. I believe all of the dressing and sauces were made in-house. We also ordered fried cheese curds, with marinara, and potato skins. Once the order was placed, it felt like we were waiting for the appetizers for awhile. One son said, I hope they don't just bring everything at once. But the appetizers did arrive first and they were very good. The salad I ordered was the Caesar. It was chopped Romaine, shredded parmesan, and croutons. Our server said that the croutons were made in-house, and so was my wife's Ranch dressing, so I assume they made the Caesar dressing, too. The point is making items from scratch suggests either unique flavor or fresh quality. The croutons were toasted bread, the size of game dice, with no seasonings I could see or taste. The Caesar dressing lacked the tangy flavor of bottled dressing. My romaine lettuce was chopped okay but some of the ends were a little brown. I was glad I passed on the Chicken Caesar entree salad. My wife said her garden salad and ranch dressing was very good. It had other greens and no romaine. The entrees were all very good. The rib dinners were, reportedly, cooked perfectly. One person felt the sauce was perfect, the other said it tasted great but there was too much of it. My wife and I had breaded shrimp. Again, I assume they made the cocktail sauce in-house. And we both had the same reaction, which was it tasted great but somehow had no coating quality on the shrimp. I dipped mine and it came up looking like it was dripping tomato juice, but tasted great. My Daughter in law loved the BLT, and the taste of the homemade potato chips. She thought they were cut a little thick, but shared with everyone else, who thought they were fine. Everyone raved about the onion dip. We had a great meal, pleasant service, even if it felt a little slow at the start. I suggest you try H &H if you're in the mood for good food, casual atmosphere and reasonable prices.
