A weekday morning found us back at the beach and a stop at Rosy's. Rosy has since retired and the current owners seem to be improving year over year. The restaurant is still small and at 10 am- full! We had a larger party of 6 and luckily the waitress asked a couple (no food yet) to please move from the 6-seater they were at to a 4-seater, as we were ready to say "uncle" and leave without ordering. Back in the day, Rosy would have never let 2 people sit at a table for 6. As for the food- the giant pancake was a standout. Huge and thick and yummy! Loaded with butter and syrup the entire table ate pieces of it. I had a cheeseburger and fries, it was good- not special but ok. I think the hash remains a favorite of my fellow diners. You can now get hash everyday (back in Rosy's time- it was a twice a week treat). Service is overall a bit slow- but cooking space is limited and they were busy- so it was expected. It's still a cash only business. So bring your dollars, patience, and an appetite! read more

After reading all the reviews of Rosy's, I decided to try it. It's very much a small town restaurant where people seem to know each other, but even just travelling through, I felt very comfortable and welcomed. The menu had lots of options, but I decided on what I called "boring" : eggs, sausage patties and potatoes. The server, however, called it classic. There was only one cook working at the time, so it took a while for the food to be served, but the most important part -- the coffee! -- came right away. Once my food came, I was astounded: the sausage patties were each almost the size of hamburgers! and they were perfectly seasoned as well. The eggs and toast were pretty standard, but they were cooked just like I ordered them. The potatoes were like shoestring potatoes -- kind of between hash browns and French fries. They were pretty good as well. Definitely worth visiting. They only take cash, but if you don't have any on you, there is an ATM machine at the front of the restaurant. read more

An absolute gem of a diner. I split the biscuits and gravy with my mother-in-law and we both agreed it was the best gravy we had ever had, and the biscuits were baked perfectly. My wife, who doesn't usually enjoy sausage gravy, tried a bite and also enjoyed it. I ordered the corned beef hash with potatoes and onions, even though I'd just crammed the biscuits and gravy in my belly. Even though I was getting full, it tasted so good that I was able to clean the entire plate and loved every moment of it. Eating at roses was the worst dining experience of my life. Upon arrival we were notified that we would be a little late, which turned out to be an hour and 15 minutes before we were served our meal. It appears that the cook can only cook one order at a time And the way the orders are placed is on a preferential method by the waitress. Local diner downtown. Very busy on the Sunday Morning we were traveling through. My husband got 1 pancake. It was huge, As large as a dinner plate! I got the veggie Skillet, which isn't on the menu, but they were willing to make me. I'm gluten intolerant and they did not really have any gluten friendly breakfast options except eggs, meat, potatoes, etc. Would not recommend for someone with Celiac. The food was excellent! Imagine the character John Belushi played in the Greek diner that only served Pepsi, cheeseburgers and chips, combined with the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld and then add Roseanne Barr. Then you would have Rosy. I recommend sitting at the counter so you can watch her in all her glory. She slings hash, shouts orders to her 'staff and provides entertainment for her customers whether intended or not. If she takes your order, be ready. When you get it, eat it. No questions asked. I didn't see anyone complain about their food but I wouldn't advise it, based on Rosy's demeanor. She would probably just tell you to get out. She is most likely one of those people you either love or hate, and what I can tell, she has a lot of locals that love her and has a long line of repeat customers. If you want to be inconspicuous, get a seat at a table and you will be served by Tekla, the very sweet waitress. There is also a very nice gentleman that buses tables and washes dishes. I'm assuming he is either Rosy's husband or someone very desperate for a job, otherwise why would anyone put up with the haranguing? This is not a place for everyone. If you just are looking for a nice, quiet breakfast, go somewhere else, There are several restaurants in the area. But if you aren't afraid of a little grease and you're looking for some atmosphere, stop by Rosy's and give it a try. Home-cooking done right in plain view, like a Waffle House but only one cook. We were leery because it looks like a dive, but pleasantly surprised at how fantastic the food is. The burgers were amazing (said the couple beside us).
