**Public Service Announcement** A woman approached my wife and younger brother today at the 801 Oakdale Road, Modesto CA This was a white woman, in her early 50s with Salt and Pepper hair, she walked with a cane and medical boot over her left foot. She approached my wife while I stepped away and asked her if (younger brother) was with my wife, my wife said yes. The lady then said "you could make a lot of money if you sold him" and quiet honestly I don't know what to think about that but it scares the crap out of me. Please, take these people seriously, protect your children. After this encounter we couldn't find her again, we then noticed an older gentleman walking around our area consistently with a newer iPhone/Samsung sticking about 3/4 out of their front pocket with their triple lens camera facing outward. Granted this may have been fueled by paranoia but this has never happened to us before. We didn't bring it to the stores attention because we couldn't find the lady again but again please be careful, people are out there like that, even here in Modesto. read more

This location turned me off. It's not like it's a fancy place. "Ross Dress for Less" is the name. While we were shopping my bf sat down on one of the chairs and another girl as well was already sitting on another chair long before my bf found me in the aisle looking at clothes. A lady employee said loudly excuse me you're not allowed to sit on the chair. She did not see me inbetween the rack of clothes on the same aisle my bf sat down literally 1minute before she said that he's not allowed to sit. When I heard that I looked at her did not say a word and l she got what I meant she then started to explain that people buy the chairs you know and then started walking away. Excuse me? An expensive furniture store like Ashley and Room and Board store let you sit, lay, try for yourself before buying why can't Ross Dress for Less let you sit on a chair? POV she did this because my bf was Indian as he was wearing a Turban. Why she didn't say anything to another lady who was sitting long before my bf sat down? And another person at another chair? To the manager of this location I hope you don't hire racist employee. Please train them about equal race. I will never go to this location and will spread the word. read more

Rude employees- careless about shoppers in surrounding areas trying to shop. They will absolutely insert themselves in between to "put away" items. Ross wins 5 stars for low quality employees and 0 if it was possible for service. read more

I called earlier to ask a simple question, lady could barely speak English and got frustrated and hung up on me cause I asked her to repeat herself since I couldn't understand her I called back after she hung up on me just for her to get loud with me telling me what I believe was "I already answered your question" Then hung up on me again Either get someone that speaks clearly or just don't answer the phone. read more

This was beyond ridiculous how long I had to wait I had to wait in line for nearly twenty minutes because a cash register lady was waiting for change and couldn't help the next guest When she finally came up (15 minutes later) she had to attend to a lady that was waiting for a jacket that was locked up and then went to the associate at the register for change. Even the security apologized for the long wait and said no one has had to wait this long for access yo try on the jacket that was locked up I felt even more bad for the associate that looked so stressed waiting for change. It held up the line I don't know whether the manager was on lunch or not but if so knowing that she's the only one on the floor, I would think she would do better and help out. read more

The management is unbelievably bad here. The higher-ups do very little while the grunts do all the bare necessities. You'll often find damaged goods or haphazard organization because the people who oversee unpacking and stocking the items care infinitely more about the speed of pushing out product than the quality of what you're expected to buy. Sometimes you can find fair prices but is it really worth dealing with how awful this place is? Nope. Just look at the overall score. read more

Oakdale Rd., location This used to be one of my favorite Ross locations...now they are completely HORRIBLE! They are so busy trying to prevent theft, that those of us trying to shop are inconvenienced to the point of not even wanting to shop there. The security tags are placed on clothing in a way that you have to go to the front desk if you want to have them relocated so you can try the item on. The shoes are so bound together, and security tagged so you can barely try them on. For clothing, the price tag is held on by the security tag...if it was tagged properly and you returned the item...they rip the tag off and reattach it with the security tag. This results in losing the price tag if you need to return an item that you didn't want to be inconvenienced to try on before purchasing. The fitting room hours are completely random. I hope they start appreciating their honest customers soon before they security tag themselves out of business. So sad. read more

They harass, stalk, badger, and falsely accuse customers of stealing and have them harassed to the point of tears! If you look a certain way, or the female employeeS just decide they don't like you....be prepared to be Treated like a social lepar. I've had employees start clearing racks or isles while I am looking thru them, for no apparent reason, when I ask they laugh and say they need to move stuff around. They do it to a lot of females who come in there they are bullys! Not all, but most. You guys need to check your personal BS at the door and be professional. read more

All right. You guys are about to get the worst review of your life. So my dear friend and I were shopping. My dear friend was physically abused as a child. She had her jaw misplaced 3 times. Now while in the process of getting dental work done. Your staff treated her as if she was a drug addict. She was s historically upset. Being that she works a respectable job. I am so disappointed by the blond girl who thinks she can ridicule- ridi-kill. The horrible she served was blasphemy. It was so awful. My friend walked out in embarrassment. I used to love coming to this store. It was up until a few days ago i came here with my mother & sister. While i was shopping an older lady walked by me and yelled in my face excuse me. I kept quiet and said nothing i stood there confused wondering why she yelled in my face. When my family & i were paying the lady approached my mother and told her that i need to learn respect. I told the lady i did nothing to her. She then went on telling my mom how she had a bad knee or was in pain. The lady told one of the workers as well that according to her i was disrespectful in a way. I was of course furious and yelled back at her. I spent 100.00 today on flower pots and am disabled and asked for help taking them out to my car and was told NO, they are not allowed to help out to cars because of insurance issues. Well, guess my money isn't good enough for them, because I always need help with my purchases due to my health. One of the worst customer service businesses in Modesto. Literally for employees will be standing around registers fiddling with hangers or moving shopping carts while lines of customers stand there. Pretty much any other business the customers that are bringing in money are usually more important than shopping carts or hangers. This is the level of customer service on a consistent basis. I know they don't care about what they do. I know they don't care about the company they work for. It shows on their faces and in each interaction. Want cheap things? This Ross is my favorite of the three that are in Modesto. It seems far off the beaten path, but that is a good thing. I found a great selection of items that I was searching for (kitchen items since I am moving into a studio apartment). The staff were curious and speedy. I watch the interactions between staff members while I waiting in the very short and fast moving line. They were nice to each other, and the one going on lunch was taking her walkie with her encase the store needed her to come back earl (who volunteers to end their break early?!) This store is worth the time it will take you to leave the freeway or McHenry. You are practically guaranteed to find what you are looking for, and a lot of choices for that item. read more

Where do i start with this place.... So many disappointments here. Attitudes here are horrible!!!!!!! Replace the whole staff please! I live out of town and have a business near by , so I will usually pass time by shopping here if my husband has extra things to do at the business that I can't help with. They have a new loss prevention named Hallie and she needs to take a serious chill pill. She has a way of making you feel uncomfortable as soon as you come in. I usually look a little scrubby from working . I get it she's trying to do her job , but sheeeeesh... You see me atleast three times a week and almost always I walk out with a few bags I have purchased, but yet I still get watched or even followed. Like really?! Back up already. This place has seem to really go downhill lately , I dnt know if there's new managment , but it's worse then ever....and the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. I will not post some of the pics , but I went to this place on a Sunday and there was menstrual blood all over the toilet seat. Came back on Wednesday and it was still there. This is beyond disgusting and absolutely no excuse. I really enjoy all Ross's deals , but can I get a clean bathroom ! Someone needs to step in at this place. read more

I can deal with the long lines, surly cashiers, ect., but Ross lost my business when I overheard two "managers" talking smack about their employees RIGHT IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS! Get new managers for this place or re-train the ones you have. That was the most unprofessional thing I've ever seen in a retail establishment. Well so much for this Ross, they lost two customers last night. My Hubby and I went to Ross last night around 7. There were two women checking out customers. There was a huge line of people and employees would come to another register and do something then walk away. I counted about 3 employees. Finally after 20 minutes, what looked to be the manager came and opened up another register. Then 2 people came in with returns and waited in a second separate line, and then were helped immediately making the purchase line wait. Customer service was horrendous, and we will not be returning. read more

Well my husband and I went to this Ross location since it is the closest to our home and we were utterly shocked at how horrible the customer service was. My husband stood by the fitting rooms waiting for someone to come to give him his number while a line formed behind him. There was so customer service representative to be found. Finally everyone just grabbed their own number and helped themselves to a room. The lady at the register was rude, and I always hate how they call the next customer up before your receipt has even printed out. Honestly give me two seconds to put my card and stuff away... Only fair since we waited awhile at the fitting rooms for no one to show up! read more

2 cashiers and a line of 18 people (probly 11 different transactions) I went on friday afternoon around 2 needed a better shirt to go out in and found about 6 that i liked.. Had 20 minutes left to be were i had to be which i think shoulda been more than enough time.. After waiting in line for 10 minutes and still having 5 transactions ahead of me i had to leave. Funny part was there was a security guy just standing there looking at all of us and 2 other employees that came and went without opening another lane. Gave 2 stars cause the clothes are good for the price n nice selection. But they broke the 1st rule of customer service. Never make us wait to hand u money. read more

Don't let them rip you off. If you have money coming back on an exchange and it's less than $10, they must give you the cash. It's the law in California and is further stated on the back of the card. By the way, this is true for other gifts cars and such. Don't let them keep your money. read more

This Ross is probably the best one in Modesto and is worth the drive to get to it. It has the greatest variety of items and the employees are nice too. Its pretty clean and is located in a good parking lot. There are great surrounding stores, too, and some good food places. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something specific read more

Solid location, but mixed experiences in terms of selection and service. The lingerie selection is very nice as others have mentioned. The clothing racks feel like they are about 25% empty. So overall - OK - I go by from time to time, but I don't usually expect to find anything amazing. read more

Ross in general is very hit or miss. Sometimes the quality is questionable with some of their "brands" especially in clothing. Clothes selections are complete crap. So messy and I'm organized. Jacklin in the dressing room department needs some serious work. I had 9 items and she said "only 8 allowed get rid of one". Uhh excuse me? Okay so I put aside a pair or leggings that I knew were going to fit anyways and said "okay I'll try everything except these" she just hands me a card and doesn't say anything. After I try my clothes on and come out, I put all my clothes on the ranch and take what I wanted. Yet my leggings were no where to be found? She put them somewhere and couldn't find them. The worst customer service I've dealt with in recent memory. My daughter, baby & I are called to the counter for our turn... One of the cashiers clearly hollars out, "Help us help you, and take off all hangers before you get to the register". What..? At that point it feels like 100° inside, I'm nauseous with a Baby in the cart, and I've gotta take the hangers off? Umm.. newsflash.. I don't work there, and employees aren't earning their minimum wage as it is. After she rang up my purchases, bags in the cart, heading out the door to find out I can't take the cart to carry my LARGE purchases to the car. Did I mention I use a walking cane? I went to Ross to buy Frames for some prints I bought in San Francisco. I brought along an empty plastic wrap from my purchased elsewhere. As I entered the Ross, I made contact with a pleasant young 5ft11in man. Let him know I brought for measurements. I know how things work in retail. Find the frames I needed, decided to shop for sundresses. this is where it gets weird. The young girl probably her first job, no smile told me to hang my clothes in front of her on a rack ,it took her awhile as she helped others while I waited. Ok I thought I understand good help is hard to come by at min. wage and training. as I came out I had three dresses off the hangers , Hallelujah! I found something I like and can afford. The young thing, no lady now, told me to take them out of my cart and hang them up she wanted to check the hangers and clothes to see if they match ? I said Im buying them. She got verbal. there were children there I placed the stores dresses back on the rack granted the hangers are off. She pretended she was in controll.I would have shopped more she killed that idea. I left and never will return to such a waste of space store, rude. read more

Last night I went shopping for winter coats at this Ross on Oakdale.. I noticed another lady also shopping for winter coats. One of the ones she liked, did not have a tag on it, so she had asked a worker for the price. The worker had matched the price with a very similar jacket & placed a sticker on the tag. I coincidentally was behind the young lady at the register & the pregnant lady that rang her up told her the price was something different (I'm assuming higher) than what the other lady gave her, but she bought it anyway. As the young lady walked out, the ladies at the register were talking so much crap about her faking a price match, oh my goodness I could not believe it! In front of other customers! I felt so bad for the young lady because I had seen the worker in the coat aisle give her that price. That was so rude! It makes me wonder if they'd ever talk about other customers & who knows, maybe even me! I'm insecure as is. I am never returning there. I'd much rather drive to the one by Best Buy where their customer service is awesome & they are much more welcoming. read more
