Update: That last review in 2019 I did broke my heart because I mentioned Lahaina in it :( Fast forward to today 9/28/24, I took my little one early this morning just for a beach towel poncho. I ended up buying that and more lol. Success! They had a lot of cute Halloween stuff out and they were well stocked in the toy section and all of the other sections as well. I went into the store and was looking for something in the pet section and this guy who was at the door was "following" me he was a tall Filipino guy and I picked the things I needed for my pet and went on to the kids toy section.. right across from me is a shelf so I could see him right there and i felt uncomfortable because where I went he seemed to follow me.. next I went to the shoes section and right around the corner he was there again.. omg seriously this guy needs to stay away from me because he looked like he was a pervert. I went to the check stand and there he was waiting at the jewelry counter. When I went up to the cashier I asked her who he was and she said that his name was Emerson who was a manager. I told him he was creepy and weird and I won't to that store again. I'll go to Kihei even though I live in town. He's looks like a pervert and maniac following me around. Ugh the lady attending the dressing room was horrible, treated me so rudely for no reason. The hiring team clearly doesn't care about costumer service. The cashiers all seem like they hate their jobs, ugh this location is the worst when it comes to costumer service. I think the Kihei location is a little better. My daughter and I went to this establishment to purchase all brand new products for our home. We got 2 shopping carts as we intended to buy over $700 worth of items, from kitchen utensils to bedding, ect... As we were finishing up a lady named Nina approached us and asked if we needed help. We politely replied no. She then told us we needed to pay and leave. Confused, I asked if they were closing soon. She aggressively said that if we didn't leave she was going to call the police. I was baffled and said excuse me? She said we see you stuffing things in your cart! My daughter than opened her purse and said we are not stealing anything. Nina than harshly told her she doesn't check bags and pointed at the door telling us to leave. I was so humiliated and bewildered as I am an assistant GM of a national corporation myself. As we were walking out Nina asked if we were going to pay for the cart. Completely shocked I said are you kidding me at which time she called us asses and mocked us. She then told us to never return. As we we walked out if the store the loss and prevention worker told us to have a noce day. This was proof that we were discriminatory profiled by the store manager without any evidence or reason to assume we stole anything. I make over 70,000 a year and being a manger myself would never steal anything. I have never even been accused of shoplifting.I called the police from my car and my daughter was so confused and embarrassed by the whole thing. As suggested I called the ross headquarters. I was told the district manager would be calling me to resolve. This was over a week ago. Since then I have heard very similar stories from other local residents. This type of profiling was so inappropriate and aggressive and I would suggest anyone else who has been in a similar position at this location speak out as well. This is not okay behavior from any employee let alone a manger and the lack of resolution is even worse. Shame on you ross!!!! read more

After further review I had not such a great experience here. Granted it was raining out. There's carts near the entrance also security. However, the aisles are seriously too small. Literally narrow enough for one person. And the day o went everyone brought there carts in the aisle with them... like there's room. The makeup section was lacking on the supplies. But didn't get a chance to check out shoes. Found some good clearance items for the house and home decorating. Found a water bottle when working out but broken haha! Did try on a few clothes items in the dress room. There separate lane for returns then checking out. Strategically placed items near the register just in case. Well , we needed one more suitcase to go to the mainland. I checked the big four and Ross had the Best deals under fifty bucks. After going all over to keep from paying Eighty for the size I needed, I came back to Ross this am. Fair price and I found a luggage strap to further ID it on the Carousel when I look for it. 30. First time I experienced her super rude behavior was 8 am because the store opens at 8 right !! I stand in line to return something for about 10 min and when I look baffled about that she tells me why don't you go look around til I'm ready !! Next time she is so loud she tells me don't you want to come on Tuesday ? That's when we have our senior discount !! I asked her softly can I just pay and leave quietly?? So embarrassing!!! Ah, who doesn't love a factory store with low prices on a huge range of products? Especially when you have 2 opposite each other - this Ross looks across at a TJMaxx. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone and grab some amazing bargains! Yes, the area is a little shady at night since Safeway closed, but I've not experienced any problems so far. I usually shop during the day and there are homeless in the area then too. There is security at the door, and they greet you nicely and help out with carts, etc. My only gripe is that the carts can't go outside so you have to carry everything yourself, so park as close as possible to the store if you are buying big items such as furniture or mirrors. Wish they had a system like TJMaxx where they can unlock the carts if you have something heavy to carry. If you like being creative with paint they have a great, cheap selection of canvas and paints. I bought a 60 x 40 canvas for my house and it certainly fills up space on the wall! There are doggy beds and toys galore, so if you have a furry friend they are well catered for too. I love the home goods area and have scored some great deals on bamboo chopping boards, rugs and large mirrors for my bathrooms, as well as quality towels. The mirrors are 1/3 the price from other places such as Target or Lowes and are much nicer. There are plenty of clothing options too. I often buy hubby dress shorts here and Hawaiian shirts. Plus I've managed to find some steals in the women's department, with cotton short suits reduced to $6.49 that are cute and get compliments. Yay! As other reviewers have stated, the aisles are tight especially with a cart, but if it means they can fit in more bargains for you to treasure hunt through then I'm not going to complain about it...lol. I moved house and I'm furnishing and equipping it at bargain prices with Ross, TJMaxx and Target! Yes the line is usually loooooong, everytime I go, so they desperately need more staff. However every cashier I've dealt with is nice, quick and professional. So don't take your impatience out on them, they are working in an understaffed situation so stressed too. Take your own bags as they charge you for theirs and they often run out of them. It might not be perfect but I'm happy to shop at this Ross as you get such great deals. Anybody who has a knack for sale price card name brand can appreciate all that Ross has To offer. It can be hit or miss, but your guaranteed to find a bargain on something you needed for the house or pantry or wardrobe or present or gift for somebody on the Mainland. You know what else they have? Name brand foods that are good and you don't mind not sharing (most are single portion size). The negatives - long lines, not always in stock with petite, typically busy. Always had a love for Ross, always will. Quite the hit or miss place, but when it is a hit I usually walk out with more then one thing. A one stop shop at such a steal, what's not to like. They turn merchandise at a high very high rate, so if you see something you like, you better get it because most likely it will not be there the next time you come in. First of all thank you Ross for carrying size 5 footwear. I have purchased several pairs over the years & it's always the first place I look at. There is always quite the selection of junior dresses & shorts which is nice unlike their neighbor across the street recently. I've purchased quite the collection from here too. The activewear section is a hit or miss. Somedays I'll come & the sports bra rack is overflowing where you have to push a whole bunch down just to see one. Other times, there are just 3 to 4 hanging per size. Junior aisle is also usually pretty full. I recently started finding more things that aren't cropped & can actually be worn to work. I also like how love how much their work out equipment section has expanded. Food is another hit or miss, with somedays its so full things are piled on each other, with others times it's so sparse. Like others have mentioned, the tight aisles are quite annoying. Once one or more people come in with their cart on each end, you are boxed in. However, it seems everyone is aware of that problem, so they are pretty nice when you have to squeeze through. read more

First off, I love Ross. I've shopped here probably a hundred times or more, no exaggeration. I love the variety of items - some of my favorites include decent quality sportswear including high quality jerseys, a huge selection of Samsonite luggage, good shoe selection (although there are noticeably fewer Nike's in the past few years), great slipper selection, lots of socks, quality cookware, name brand kids cloths, and it's actually my go-to location for name brand kids shoes. You'll also occasionally find some random European Milka bars there which are a terrific find and super ono chocolate. There's much more too, they're just not really items I'm interested in. Essentially all of the things you'll find in Ross are a pretty good value being half the retail price, or oftentimes even less. The reason for my low rating is the inadequate staffing levels, which seem to be ridiculously mismanaged. It's rarely staffed appropriately and it's not uncommon for folks to wait 10-15 minutes to check out, because despite there being at least a dozen registers there are only 2 or 3 cashiers. The final straw for me was last weekend, literally a week before Christmas. I walked in, looked at the line which stretched to the back of the store with I'm guessing 50 folks trying to check out with shopping carts full of stuff. Then I looked at the registers where (no joke) there were 3 cashiers checking people out, including the registers at the jewelry counter. So despite being eager to shop there, I turned around and walked right back out. While I understand it's difficult to find employees these days, this has been an ongoing pattern at this location for a decade or more. It's far from the first time I've walked in and immediatly walked back out because of the cashier-to-customers-waiting-in-line ratio. I don't know if this is some grand corporate strategy or just a unique problem to the Kahului location, but it's frustrating and just feels like straight up mismanagement. Again, I generally love this Ross and the employees are typically very pleasant, but reviews like this may be the only way management gets the message that they need to make a greater effort to staff/schedule more cashiers. read more

Love coming to Ross for all the cheap goodies! My favorite section to shop is the women clothing, electronics, and just the random items. I will admit, Ross is kind of dirty and doesn't have the nicest workers but the deals are so worth it. Today I went to Ross for a iPhone screen protector. At Target, Walmart, and Amazon they were all relatively expensive compared to the six dollar protector I found at Ross today. The selection in the electronic area is pretty slim but there are definitely some diamonds in the rust. I also love the women clothing. The pants and leggings are definitely my favorite because of how cheap and how nice material is. Pants range from about $10-$17 and all the pants I have bought here I've had a very long time. There are some loose threads but nothing that can't be cut off. Overall Ross is one of my go to places when shopping for clothing, house decor, and just random items. I'm giving this store four stars just because of the cleanliness. read more

I don't really shop at Ross back in the bay area since there are so many other choices and the Ross stores there are subpar compared to this Ross. I have been here for two weeks and have been here twice. That's a lot for me. Both times I have found a few items that I really liked and purchased. This is a busy store and they have so much inventory. Their aisles are extremely narrow and you literally need to "reverse" out of the aisle with your cart repeatedly. I saw lots of locals and quite a bit of visitors in this store. I hope that they open a Ross in West Maui in the near future. read more

Ever had a "Deja Vu" moment? After writing a review last year about - "Kim Mi Alterations"...........I had another similar puka pants incident today! And no..........I did not fart my pants, & blow out a hole! Aaaaaaaaah, Ross Dress for Less...........I don't know what I would do without you folks! So I was on Maui today doing some work at the Bank of Hawaii (inside Safeway) & while I was doing my work, I had to check some electrical & communications lines........upon squatting down to check the lines..............a few moments later, I felt a drafty cool sensation by my so called - "private area". I was thinking to myself..........shall I reach between my legs to see if the inevitable had happened to me again? I mean Geeeeeeeez, the bank has so much camera's! The camera's will pick up everything, and anything inside the bank. If you pick you nose..........I'm sure they will have that on camera! If you split your pants...........I'm sure they will have that on camera too if they have the right angle! Lol! Yay! I'm famous! Lol! Well, I really had to find out about my uncomfortable predicament, so I reached behind by my butt area...........phew, that was okay......... then I quickly reached between my legs by my private area.........hummmmmm, that was NOT okay! Lol! Things started racing in my head.............can the girls see the split in my pants? Did I wear my good underwear today? Or did I go commando? Buwahahahaha! Hope my hamma ain't hangin' out! From there, I made a mental note to myself as I kept on working............."remember now, keep my legs closed" when I squatted down, as I don't want to attract any flies, or freak out any of the girls working at the bank. Upon finishing up the job..........I thanked my customer, packed up my gear, jumped into my rental car & made a bee-line to Ross Dress for Less! As I walked into Ross, I headed straight to the pants rack, and picked out a few pairs of pants. Upon heading to the dressing room to try out the pants, the lady who was doing the item checks (clothes you try on) - I tell her - "Eh, I went rip my pants, garans ball-barans I going buy a new pair pants, can I just wear the new pair of pants out, & take the sales tag to the register to pay for my new pants?" The nice lady smiled & said, "Oh, no can do because they have to take off the electronic security theft tag off the pants, and they cannot do this if you're wearing it." I then said - "Aaaaaaah, you right..........." She then tells me - "When you find your pants, go pay for it, and the cashier will take off the electronic security theft tag, show me the receipt, then you can come back to the dressing room to change you pants". Cool! No problem at all! Found a pair of jeans I liked, and it fit me well......paid for it, then headed back to the dressing room to change out my pants! Oh Man! What a relief! This store is a great find for those who are seeking to furnish or re-fresh their homes. Nice quality furnishings and kitchen items for often less than half price! Ex. A can opener at Safeway is $12 (seriously - tourist trap move). Here? $4.99. Same brand! Corkscrew? Other places $10+. Here? $5.99 or less. You can find beautiful vases and floral decor that is often 3x the price at Target or other stores. Draperies? There's no competition for their prices and quality. If you shop any other store for curtains, you are wasting your money. It's also a GREAT place for MENS clothing and shoes! I recently found some socks, shirts, shoes and jeans for my teenaged son at very, very low prices compared to other area stores - ! Never thought about it but the jeans were $10 - brand new!!! Similar item is almost $40 elsewhere. My only disappointment is that the lines can be SUPER long - so be prepared to play with your phone (this is when I Yelp! - lol) or (gasp!) bring a book. Well of course we all love Ross because it's like a treasure hunt and you feel really good when you find some special treasure. They have a great selection of ladies clothing at prices that can't be beat. It's a little bit hit and miss but that's half the fun. Sometimes you get lucky and find a nice designer brand that fits you just right at a fraction of the retail cost elsewhere. I like their selection of sheets and towels, and the housewares items are pretty good too. If you're looking for a house warming gift for somebody this is a great place to shop. Really nice boxed sets of hand soaps which are pretty hard to find on this island. They have a pretty good selection of men's wear and children's clothing too. I am a Ross fanatic. I can shop here 2 to 3 times a week. this is our only Ross store on Maui located in Kahului. It is located on Kamehameha Ave. I am not too sure when they have new shipment arriving in. sometimes they have empty shelves but most of the time you can find great things. I travel to the outer islands a lot for work and many times find that we will have a half hour or so left of lunch or some time to kill before heading to our next account so we'll all agree to stop in at Ross to see what we can find. We can always find everything so easily in comparison to a lot of their Oahu stores and a lot of the similar items are in better condition too. We always seem to find something in the short amount of time that we're there. The store is much more organized and cleaner than other branches that I've been to. Oh Ross, how some people love thee. Rummaging through a mishmash of clothing like looking through a vertical filing cabinet, working those fingers to the bone. Once in a blue moon you get lucky and find something nice at a great price, but I'm not much of a gambler or hunter by heart. I once found something useful, which were Christmas tree bags that house our 9' and 6' fakers, thanks to my many Ross-loving friends who said they carry them. I recently received a gift of dog poop bags which work so well to tame the stench due to its powdery scent. Naturally I wanted more so I ventured in only to find the dog shelves completely empty like Walmart on a normal day. Ugh! THE STORE: The layout is easy to navigate through, the shelves are low, and the signs are big and visible. It's really clean overall. Inventory (or lack thereof) includes clothing, shoes, pet supplies, houseware, and luggage. The first time I went in and saw the carts with the big poles sticking out of them, I thought they were so they could see where the carts were in the store. Turns out it's so that they don't leave the store itself lol. There are several cashier stations but the line can be long and slow at times. SERVICE: The staff are welcoming and friendly, including the security guard at the front who greeted us and thanked us when leaving. OVERALL: Good prices, inventory is hit or miss. Why is there always an extremely long line whenever I'm ready to purchase my items? They have all these cash registers but only one or two cashiers. Its ridiculous! Clearly Ross understaffs their team and has no problem using their frontline workers to take all the consumer frustration. Sometimes I don't understand why they place their sticker price tags where they do on an item. Its no mystery that they are not fun to remove and usually rip to where it would be a chore to completely remove the adhesive. They either need to be trained to put it in less obvious areas or change the sticker to be something more easily removed. Im sure it is because people try to switch sticker prices but it sucks for everyone who tries to remove them and are left with a nightmare to deal with. One thing that I do like are the greeters/security at the front. Cashiers and associates on the floor seem like they don't give a rip about you and their existence but it's nice to get a friendly smile and hello when I walk in. I enjoy shopping at my local Ross store. If I need something for my house or wardrobe, chances are: Ross has it! The only catch is: I've been told by store associates that shelves are stocked once per day-in the early AM and that's it until the next day. So if you really want the selection, you have to get there early so you can get it. Ross carries all sorts of merchandise: toys for your pet, prints for your wall, sheets for your bed and so much more! The prices are affordable and they even have a few clearance sections.
