Not my *favorite* location. It seems like a lot of things were picked over and some of the areas were empty. Admittedly, it was a Sunday evening. But, I have to say, Ross always delivers. If you take your time, and look through everything, you can find some great deals. I found a DKNY perfume that I really wanted and had been looking for at various discount stores. l I found another Kate Spade spray perfume as well. I also got a bunch of black blouses which I needed as staple pieces to mix with my current wardrobe. Even if my "less than favorite" location, I have to say, I always find some good stuff at Ross. My husband picked up two dress shirts as well. The key is just having a good eye and knowing what to look for. Ignore the colors or styles you don't like and look for what you do want (in my case, my eye just hones in on black). read more

If you want to be treated like a criminal, shop at Ross in Hillside. Although I left with a very cute top with navy, mango, and fuchsia chevron stripes for the very low price of $11, I wouldn't come back to this location just to avoid the shakedown I got here. This store is very messy. There are clothes on the floor, and what isn't on the floor is tangled on the racks. I'll let it slide though - I found some cute stuff at rock bottom prices. There are deals to be had; I tried on six shirts, all of which were less than $12. There are some name brands, like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, but those are few and bar between. However, it's mostly non-famous brands, so if you're a label whore then Ross isn't your spot. If you like inexpensive, on trend pieces, give Ross a shot - but maybe not THIS Ross. When I tried on the clothes, I was met by some rude fitting room attendants that lacked basic social skills. No hello, but I was barked at and almost knocked over because I didn't follow what is apparently standard procedure here. I asked, "can I please try these on?" "DID YOU HANG THEM ON THE RACK? HANG THEM ON THE RACK! HANG THEM ON THE RACK! I NEED YOU TO HANG THEM ON THE RACK!" Huh? Um, okay. I felt dizzy - what rack? Oh, that single metal pole? Um okay. There was no explanation, no sign, nothing indicating that I should have been aware of this (really fucked up) policy. I hang my clothes on a rack as the attendant flips through, and pats down, each garment. I've shopped at other Ross stores, but it's apparent that Hillside must have a serious shoplifting problem. My pat down at the New Orleans airport was less thorough than this. I witnessed another attendant later almost chase someone down for not hanging up clothes when she was leaving the fitting room. I don't want to sound like a snotty bitch, but I'm too good for this shit. I don't need to be treated like some derelict ne'er do well. This is probably one of the most miserable places to work, judging by the apparent chips on the shoulders of the customers who waited in line too. One of them was screaming on the phone in Polish, another emaciated corpse stood there in her socks, shower sandals and over-gelled hair bitching about the wait. Somehow I left here really happy though. That shirt I bought is really cute. read more

It's actually a decent Ross (NOT A FAN OF ROSS), besides the fact that you have only 1-2 lines open w/30 customers waiting on a busy Saturday!!! Anyway, I ran in here on a Friday night at 8:52pm thinking they closed at 9pm, to my surprise they stayed open til 1130. That in itself is WONDERFUL!!!! Their selection isn't bad for leisure wear. I've come to this store a few times now. I've noticed that Ross (this and many others) sells some crappy-ass clothes mixed in with the nice ones. You'll find a lot here that has pilling and holes in it, and a lot of areas can be really picked over. Buyer beware! On my last visit, I got two cute workout tops for 8.99 and a dress for 16.99. When I went to check out, I was the only customer in line....and the cashier asked me to help her take the hangers off my 3 pieces of clothes. Really? I know it's not a big deal over all, but it says a lot about their customer service (and lack thereof). When I was done ringing up, she was moving the 3 whole hangers to a basket, and told me to take my own receipt off the register. Again, really?? A customer shouldn't be touching the register, even to pull a piece of paper off it! It was really strange and kind of offensive, to not be treated like a 'valued customer'. I was there last early in the day, so the store looked good, not messy. This place isn't my favorite by any means, but when I want something new for cheap, I can find it here, as long as I scrutinize carefully. read more

So when you walk in, you see the security guard and you are think right away. Omg this is how Piper felt in Orange is the New Black. Weirder out but yet very understanding of the situation. (While their the nice cashier told us they are open till 11pm on Saturday so good for them having security! Shoot when I worked retail I would have loved it on late nights!) So the place isn't very organized.. if organized at all. But, who cares, I'm there for the bargains and the actual floors and shelves are dirty with dust of food.. just messy from the customers getting crazy trying to find a good deal. It's always hit or miss in these places so I don't get mad when they don't have what I want. But why I like Ross over most these stores is the dress selection! They have dresses for dayyyyyys and in a large variety of sizes. So if your looking for a large garage sale where everything is still new-- ross is the place to go! read more

Rather disturbing, to feel racial profiled. Sam from loss prevention, has followed us from the moment we walked in. Madr this experience dreadful. The ladies here are wonderful and very helpful reguardless of skin color. Summer & Starr where just delightful. Too bad I won't come back. read more

This review rates this particular Ross location to the wealth of Ross locations that I've visited (precisely one - on 75th in Downers) as well as the broader category of TJ Maxx/Homegoods, of which I've visited an actually large number. I was pleasantly surprised to enter this Ross and see a fairly large store, well organized and spotless. I say that, because the Ross in Downers has a bit of a down-on-its luck vibe, so I assumed that was the way the brand rolled. Not so, apparently. This place had some breathing room inside - it felt like it had better lighting as well. There were a couple of security guards inside, but that's par for the course around this area. Nothing to be concerned about, unless you have ill intent, obviously. I generally go to Ross to check out the fragrances, and the selection here is about twice as large as I found at the other location. In general, I'd say It felt on par with a typical TJ Maxx, but not quite up to the level of a typical Homegoods. I was pleasantly surprised. Hmmmm, if you are a guy with pants size 34 X 30, don't waste your time. They have a few dress slacks, but they are all slim fits slacks. I refuse to wear slim fit. The guys selection is limited and really not worth the time to walk in. And if you are in need of a dress shirt other than plain white in a size 16 1/2 - 32/33, you won't find anything other than a gawd awful teal or ugly purple shirt. Like the bargains? This place is a mess. Be ready to fossilize waiting for a cashier. The store is always understaffed and product is all over the floor. Men .. Dont waste your time here as men's clothing is minimal. Woman.. Yes you will find amazing discounts but be prepared to stand in line forever. If your returning product, do not ...again do not forget you receipt. read more
