Only come here whenever you're not in a hurry! They often only have one cashier regardless of how long the line is. They still charge 5 cents for a bag so plan accordingly or park as close to the front as you can. This is my local spot since it's only 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive. Always find something at Ross! I go for the bargains, for the quick fix of retail therapy without the huge price tags. I don't go for or expect Nordstrom level customer service, spotless fitting rooms or quick check out lines. Point being, set your expectations! Since I had just gone to the Ross in Eastport Plaza, I decided to take SE 82nd to get home so I could stop in this Ross too. They all have different inventory so it's always worth a quick drop in and walk through the store. Today I found a gorgeous jumpsuit by Calvin Klein for $49 and I've seen it at Macy's for $129. Same exact one. Also bought an on trend pair of leopard print pants. I know, sounds like a street hooker. But they really are somewhat tame, no pun intended! I plan on wearing them around the house as loungeware because the material is so soft, they have pockets, and they are a loose, wide leg style. For $11.99, I couldn't leave them behind. It was Friday around dinner hour so the store was not crowded and checkout was fast. If you go during lunch hours when it's busy, the lines are often long because for some reason, they have less cashiers working during the busiest time. Like all Ross they have the annoying "greater" as you walk in, not adding to the experience at all. I smile and keep walking. At this particular store on this day, I did see a very active security guard really walking around watching to prevent theft, not just standing around which is usually the case. I, for one, appreciate this. Too much theft in Portland and it affects all of us. I like that they have security guards; I'm there to shop not steal so their presence doesn't bother me. They seem so overwhelmed. There was a long line with lots of people buying lots of stuff but just one cashier. If I would have stood in that line I would have waited 25 minutes so I just dumped my stuff and left. I will not go somewhere so busy with just one cashier. I know they are having a hard time finding help... they had a sign up that was encouraging 16-17 year olds. But here's a tip- if you pay more, you can retain the help that you do have. **HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE** I called and asked what time they closed, they said 11:30pm. I arrived at 11:05pm, when I walked in the door I was meet by a employee who told me i wouldn't be able to shop be cause they were closing in 5 min. I then told the employee i had just called 10 min ago and they told me they closed at 1130pm and asked him why now would they would be closing at 11:10pm? He said he wanted to close early so he could clean up the store and go home. I told him I came for a certain item and it wouldn't take me 5 min. As I walked back to get the item I watched him turn away 2 more people at the door that both stated "there is still 20 min before you close, why would I not be able to come in?" Earlier this evening my father and I were shopping here together. As we went to pay, we were rung up by a young sweet lady. Great customer service and we had small talk, I told her our family is celebrating a lot and shopping early for our trip to SE Asia. Our total was $124 Dad took advantage of his 10% senior discount, as he looked over at the line, my aunts walks over and said Hey! Dad offered to pay for her shirts bc that's normal within our tradition, Big bro taking care of their younger siblings. Another Ross worker (maybe manager?) walks over and said "Hey guys just to let you know there's a sign here this register is closed bc she's (our cashier) is not suppose to be up here. If your not paying together, you could've move to the other register" Auntie said we are together. "Manager" no you're not together bc your paying separately. And walks off with an attitude. 1) We can read and I didn't see a sign 2) don't be effn rude to my Aunt and Dad who's 57 & 72. 3) Your customer service sucks - Your approach could've been different. 4) You blamed us for not reading and not paying separately. You could've offered to take care of Aunt at the other register if you were that concerned instead of making us feel guilty. I've been in customer service for over 25yrs...this experience tonight seriously pissed me off bc I've been shopping there for many many years! Clearly "Mgr" had her panties in a bunch tonight. I was in such a good mood today until SHE spoke to us. We were all laughing and happy until she came over and decided to share what was probably her fault in the 1st. If you think we were the cause of the line not moving, then maybe have Tuesday's shift staffed better so you wouldn't have to pull someone from the floor to so Reg! I haven't been to a Ross in the last 5 years, and today's shopping experience reminded me why. - Security staff at the entrance, making me feel like I'm in a police lineup? Check. - Random merchandise? Check - Long lines? Check Still, I'm glad I stopped there. I got some great deals on Carter's baby clothes (over half off) and a bunch of other stuff that I've meaning to get around to buying for a while just as soon as I bumped into it at the right price. Such as plastic dryer balls. $10 at the fancy baby shop? Baby's diapers are soft enough. $4 at Ross? Softer diapers, coming right up! And once I actually reached the cashier, she was super nice. I may not wait a whole 5 years again to return to Ross. Though the next time I go, I'll bring a paperback to hold in line instead of a hungry baby. read more

Just for clarification purposes. I have the shopping gene and I am an avid Ross shopper. That said... This Ross Blows! There, I said it. Hands down the worst Ross experience you can have. Now, I don't mean it'll be a bad experience by other standards, I mean by Ross standards. So, yes, there will be a mindbogglingly long, 2 lines of checkers. Yes, at least one of them will be struggling with something...usually a no-receipt return requested by a non-native English speaker. Yes, people in line will be vocally complaining about how they can't believe it's taking so long.....etc. It will be this.....and then some! Save yourself a good 30-45 minutes to check out if you find something you like. This aside, you're on the border of Portland and Clackamas on 82nd....so you know you're off to a bad start as it stands. The store is "Ross disorganized" + 20% and the staff is as untrained as they come. Sadly, the security guard was more helpful than the blank-stare faced girl who was cleaning the shoe section. I'm a sucker for cool clothes at good prices but this Ross makes you work for it. Go to the Gateway location instead and save yourself the mental anguish. read more

This Ross is unorganized , messy and smells like an ashtray ; with lots of screaming children running around. The cashier are clueless, and spends valuable time arguing about something as simple as a hanger for the clothes. Willing to not make a sale as apposed to leaving a shirt on the hanger. The immediate supervisor ir not much better. Maybe this is a test store for the Dept of Corrections or Parole. read more

Where do I even begin? This ross is ran terribly. I get you have people who shop lift but don't look at everyone like they're stealing it's really off putting to be in your store. Second. The way the dressing room works is bazaar to me- you literally have one shirt - obvious. Abs they make you put it on the rack and take it off yourself then make you put it on for the second time when you come out with the exact same shirt. . . It's a joke. Always can find good deals on clothes and and anything else you would need for your house. Rather its kitchen stuff you need or a shelf for the bathroom this is a place to go and save money. They have a security guard there all the time which is really nice because you definitely get a different kind of crowd in there and it always seems like there is someone in line in front of you that's got a ridiculous request and making a big scene but that's just become part of the ross experience no matter which one you go to. I'm giving this store 5 stars, and it has nothing to do with shopping. My daughter and 2 grandchildren were there this evening. My 2 year old granddaughter ran off and disappeared as her mother chased after her. We were frantic. I went to the store security, and the immediately announced a 'Code Adam', describing my lost granddaughter. All of the associates lined up and did a sweep of the store. Of course she was hiding in between a rack of clothes. They found her within 5 minutes. We are so thankful for their quick response and professionalism. Thank you so much, Ross Associates. Worst customer service. Long lines and no cashiers especially for returns. Loss prevention staff is pointless, don't do anything. They don't even help load your car after they tell you carts can't leave the store and you have a baby. Make you leave your baby alone in hot car while you walk back in to get your items. If I could give zero stars, I would. Went in today to return an item and had a HORRID interaction with the store's manager, Larry. What a snide and disrespectful creature. Customer service is everything these days, and his rude way of handling our concerns and questions was unacceptable.
