Bandit special chicken schnitzel with peppercorn sauce
    Sam K.

Strudel tour concluded with what Mary Anne and I both agreed was the best meal we've had in Germany! Strudel was perfect with cinnamon, apple filling that tasted like delicious apples not apple pie filling, rich like home made ice cream‍ I had the house special schnitzel with this great peppercorn sauce and MA had sauerbraten. Everything rocked complimented by some local Silvaner white wine. Oh and some of the best potatoes either of us have had service that accepted requests like no onions in the potatoes without complaint because everything is scratch made when ordered. they have a great seasonal asparagus menu so I tried the hot asparagus soup as a starter and it was delicious. We also got bread and two nice side garden salads with a pleasantly sharp house dressing to start. #thatsasgoodasitgets #eatingourwaythroughgermany -- eating dinner with Mary Anne at Rosis Restaurant Schinderhannes.

An absolute hidden gem! Owned and run by a husband and wife team. It has an old-time German family restaurant feel to it. The owners are very nice, and Rosi cooks the best Schnitzel in Germany. All fresh ingredients, prepared just as Rosi's grandmother made it. The €12 meal started with delicious, fresh German bread, a small side salad, and an ice cold German beer, Kulmbacher. The "Hunter Style" Jagerschnitzel is huge and loaded with gravy and mushrooms over a very tender schnitzel. Absolutely delicious! My friend ordered the "Bandit" Peppercorn schnitzel which had a little bit of zing to it and was just as good, if not better than the Jagerschnitzel. We ended the meal with a shot of apfelkorn shot. An altogether wonderful meal and experience that is a must for any Mainz resident or visitor.

    Great potatoes!

The food was great. The outside seating is peace full. Most of the time I come I am prepared to wait for my food since it is made to order. I have eaten here numerous time and try to come back every time I come to Mainz.

Excellent, authentic food in a comfortable atmosphere. The Rotkohl is as good my mother's...please don't tell her!

Food was okay. When we arrived, there were dirty dishes sitting out in plain view. The place didn't feel clean.

Rosi's "Bandit Schnitzel" or schnitzel with pepper cream sauce is the best I've ever had.

The first time we saw this restaurant by the Gutenberg Museum, we thought it looks like a pricy,…read moretouristy place. But some of our friends tried it and highly recommended it, so we went for lunch to try it out. This place seems to be busy at any time of the day, and it's easy to see why. The place is modern and comfortable, on one wall there are lots of head silhouette... wonder if there is any significance who these people are? Menu is in German, and we find the price is slightly high, but not unreasonable, and the food quality is definitely top notch! They have the ubiquitous schnitzel, pretzel, sausages as well as other traditional dishes, but also have things like coconut curry soup and tempura, and vegan items. When we went there, asparagus was in season, so they had a special asparagus menu, listing about 10 dishes featuring asparagus: asparagus soup, asparagus risotto, asparagus tempura, coconut asparagus panna cotta... We were glad because, just outside the restaurant, there is this huge farmers market, stalls after stalls selling big fat green and white asparagus, but as tourists staying at a hotel we have no way to cook them. Now finally a chance to try the fresh asparagus. I asked my German friends, "You buy the asparagus at the market and cook them home?" "Ja!" "And you order them at restaurants too?" "Oh yes, we eat them several days a week. Because the season is very short." So what happen when the season is over? "We have to wait till next year." "They don't have them at supermarkets?" "No, because then they are not fresh they are no good!" Needless to say, we had the best asparagus of our lives, after which, we just don't bother with American asparagus anymore...

There is no menu in English but you can muddle through, I know you can. I had a lovely plate of cheese, meat, jelly, a hard-boiled egg, and some decorative fruit with a generous basket of bread. There was a liver wurst option on the menu that I substituted with cheese. There was a goat cheese on this plate that was really great. I ate little bites on bread and also had a chai latte. There is a cozy eating area in the back where you can sit and eat on comfy chairs with a coffee table. They also have books and magazines to read. How cool! The service was exceptional and lunch here was about $10-- you can't beat that especially for the quality and quantity of food. Thank you, Hintz and Kuntz for a lovely stop in Mainz.
