Great brewery with three beers on tap while we were there - the local Märzen, a lighter beer, a Schwarzbier, like a stout, and a Vienna-style lager. The three of us had one of each, so we could try everything, and all three were excellent. We had an excellent meal, I had the Rinderrouladen, which are thin pieces of beef rolled around a filling of onions and pickles, which came with red cabbage, mashed potatoes, and gravy - delicious! My son had Wiener schnitzel and a pretzel, and my husband had Weisswurst (veal sausages, I believe?) with soup and a pretzel. The friendly young man waiting on us cheerfully put in a to-go order for my daughter, who wasn't feeling well, and was happy to explain the menu items for me, so I could pick the best things for her. When I asked where to get a schweinhaxe, this place was recommended. It didn't disappoint. I had a very delicious schweinhaxe with kraut and a beer from the in house brewery. We are very impressed by the food. The schweinhaxe was so huge that I was able to eat some of it for breakfast and it was very good even the next day. read more

We stopped in on a rainy day to grab a snack and a drink. I order St Anthony Riesling, which was one of the best rieslings I've ever had. My husband had their marzen and loved it at well. Schnitzels was HUGE. Unfortunately, it wasn't the dish I ordered. The white sausage and pretzel sounded PERFECT for my "authentic" German meal, but I was quite underwhelmed by the portion size; however, it was actually the perfect light meal. This is a pretty happening place on a Friday/Saturday night here in Mainz, Germany. It is very busy, communal seating most places and the restaurant does not rush you as it is a casual socializing beer house. We got a whole flight of beers to try for just $30! Found this place wandering around with my coworkers in Frankfurt one of the few night we were there. Cool ambiance when you walk in. They only serve the house made brewed beer, to the right you can see all the equipment they use. There's a couple different bars placed throughout, but they only served from the one near the entrance when we were there. The expansive seating arrangement took us to the complete opposite side and down some steps from where we walked in. Very cool wall decor as we were led to our table for four. They have extremely long tables for much bigger parties, and a lot were packed! They offer German and English menus. All beer is low percentage, kind of disappointing. They have a massive five liter container that a table can share, but unfortunately my table wasn't ready for that kind of fun (wine drinkers). My coworkers ordered over baked pretzels, but they were extremely cold. The butter packet was an additional 50 cents and that was so rock hard they passed on that. Nothing is gluten free friendly and I also imagine vegans suffering through the menu. I ordered the Ewe's milk cheese in a potty for starters. Cold, single type of cheese dish essentially. Small serving, decent flavor. For the main meal I ordered turkey ragout, which is chunks of turkey with spätzle. Messier than you'd think. Prices were a bit steep for portions and many of the items on our table didn't look homemade. Wouldn't go back, rather find somewhere more authentic. read more

Typical German Brewery/ Restaurant that is surprisingly big on the inside. They took us deep underground until we could find a table that was open because of the large amount of people there. On the walk to our table being able to see where the beer is made was really awesome and just gave the restaurant the brewery feel. I will start off by saying the first thing that caught my eye was the giant 5 Liter beer container that one could buy for a group or maybe yourself. This was really cool and a great idea and if I ever go here again with anyone my main goal will be to get this 5 Liter beer. The food was really good and from all the other dishes I saw they all looked very good and the portion sizes were a lot. You were going to leave full. I ordered the Brauerschnitzel which came which fries and the schnitzel was cover in a beer sauce which was really good. My only complaints were the schnitzel was really thin in some places and the fries weren't so special. Maybe some potatoes would go better. For the beer that I had I really enjoyed their dark brewed beer. It came in a cup that looked very German to me and had a strong taste that most dark beers have. Visited Mainz today. Yelped for German food at 1pm and many will not be open till 4pm. However, this one was open. Inserted address into GPS and shortly I was there! The building was quite unique. It served their own brew of beer and it was good! I sat outside in the patio and it was really quite pleasant with the spring weather. We found this place on TripAdvisor, had decent reviews, so we trusted it. I did not enjoy it. The pretzel was cold and they served it with package mustard. The schnitzel, it is huge, was too oily and too much breadcrumbs. It tasted ok but left a terrible after taste. It is served with fries; which were cold. The place is decent for a beer but that's about it. I must say that the inside is kind of cool, exactly what you'd expect of a brewery. Find a better place for dinner. read more

No vegan options Very cute pub where you can get beer they brew-light or dark. I do not like dark beer and liked them both. A mug runs 3.90 and a small glass runs 1.90 with a large stein running 7.80. Their Bratkartoffeln (potato wedges) were good, their fries looked pre-cut and from a bag from the freezer. While they had a menu both in German and one in English, that did not overcome the fact that there were no vegan options. Normally I can cobble some sides together to make a meal, but even that was not an option. So I ate dinner before going out to dinner with my friends and just enjoyed the beer and cute surroundings. read more

I've been to this place many times now and have always loved it until late night.. the waiter was extremely rude to us once we asked for English menus and said "Oh you think Germans just have to cater to you??" Then proceeded to ignore us all night and threw our coasters at us and slammed our drinks down at us. He demanded us to give him our plates once we finished and that's when we asked for the bills and he didn't acknowledge that we spoke at all. Then he literally avoided looking at us and after we were there over an hour we were literally yelling to him to please give us the tickets and he still just walked by us. This is him literally walking right next to our table. It was such an awful and awkward experience. We all do know enough german to get us by and asked for English menus only because it is a luxury to be able to read things with more ease. We are all nice people and grateful to be here so it was just awful to be treated this way simply because we were Americans.. Even after all that though, the food is just amazing. I love the vibe there and drinks. I'll probably go again but if I see him we are asking for a new waiter.. read more

After not sleeping for 30+ hours in transit, post-refreshing-shower & extra-spicy doner kebab; I arrived at Eisgrub for some beers that would render me unable to resist 12 hours of consecutive, deep sleep. While they were out of towers (alas!--and a flu prevented a return visit to climb said towers); the person-sized ceramic mugs (you can also get a 1L glass mug, bigger than yer head) filled with quality brew were a nice touch. Everything I tried was full of clean flavors, and served immediately to our spot on the porch longtables. My only regret is not getting to return for a tower & schweinshaxe, and trying to get a table in the labyrinthine interior, full of nooks that looked perfectly appropriate for loudly discussing the Rhine bike journey I missed out on --- damn the Flu! read more

The building structure was very interesting and looked like an old brewery. I went with a group of 20 work friends and even with that the see was great. This is an old standard for me. I am in Mainz quite often. Every visit includes a stop here. Their beers are wonderful ( try the flight of beers). All of the sausages are cooked to perfection. Plenty of food for all, best Haxe EVER, good service, really fantastic non-alcoholic beer (the "Bitburger alkohofre" was very mild, kinda like water, but the "Weiz. alkoholfrei" was really outstanding!) My wife and I stumbled upon this place our last day In Mainz. The beer was fantastic and the staff was very friendly. We didn't eat so I can't speak for that but we were able to order our beverages without a problem. The place feels like a really old pub with super squeaky wood floors that actually strain under weight. You can see from pictures also the walls are relatively low and arced and charming. It was a delightful time if you like an old pub experience. we took home a mug as a keepsake of our trip. read more

The pub offers two self brewed beers, a mildly sweet lager and mildly smoky Schwarz beer. The beer is good but unremarkable. The food is standard German fare but all well done with large portions. The service is very good and the location and facilities are very good. The average entree is about 10€. It is a very good value. read more
