    Allgäuer Büble Edelweissbier
    Dana S.

This restaurant is situated in a converted church hospital and the venue is beautiful. The inside seating is in the main hall of the church and the outside seating feels like it's in a garden. The only drawback to the indoor is that the hall is so resonant that it can be hard to hear others at your table. I attended a reception here with a 3-course set menu. They started us out with cranberry bread and the opportunity to buy a drink. I had their weissbier on tap, Allgäuer Büble Edelweissbier. It was a little sweet but not really fruity (which is what I wanted) and had a nice foamy finish. For the appetizer: avocado with goat cheese in an olive oil-lemon vinaigrette. This was also topped with diced olives and some sort of green shoots that I didn't recognize. I liked the pairing of the briny olives and goat cheese with the creamy avocado and fresh, herby greens. Main course (vegetarian option): napkin dumplings. I'd never tried this dish and it was unreal, I loved the texture of the bread dumplings! They were perfect for soaking up the addictive buttery sauce without getting soggy. I didn't feel like the dish got too heavy since they used the perfect amount of sauce (although it was so good I could have eaten more) and kept things bright with the garnish of scallions and greens. They provided more plain bread when we were finished to soak up the rest of the sauce. Dessert was the "Brownie Dessert" of chocolate cake/brownie with walnut crumble and raspberry sorbet. The brownie was one of those that just melts in your mouth as you eat it. The sorbet had a really bright and natural flavour. Every course was delicious and the portion size was right in the window where I felt very satisfied but not overstuffed. The service was also seamless. The waiters were some of the friendliest I had while I was in Germany, the wait time between courses was appropriate, there wasn't a significant delay between the first and last tables to get their food brought to them, and they were diligent about replacing the water at the table when we ran out (unlimited still and sparkling were included in the dinner). If the regular experience is anything like what they did for us, I would definitely recommend them for a nice dinner and unique experience in Mainz!

While on a trip to Germany someone recommended this beautiful restaurant. We really loved it. Pumpkin soup, tagliatelle with filet tips, kasespatzle, salmon, and a couple bottles of interesting reislings. Everything was tasty and filling. The location is beautiful, the wait staff is friendly, young, informative, engaging, and humorous. Yanick and Lilly were so cute. And everyone was engaging. I was here with my brother and his wife, and my husband and sister. Always great conversation. (Especially after two bottles of wine.) We recommend highly. Cheers, Amy

Wonderful place for a semi-fancy meal (indoors) or even a more casual meal when the summer garden is open. We had an early dinner on a lovely late-summer afternoon, and found the summer garden to be charmingly well designed. Even though it's in the middle of Mainz, the summer garden is built with a lot of greenery and a wall of bamboo that helps shield you from feeling like you're in a city-center, especially if you get on of the tables tucked into the greenery! Service was typical for a slightly nicer restaurant, and all the servers we interacted with spoke better English than we do German. As far as the food, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The Classic Club Sandwich with fries was a nice big portion and was well built, and would work well for someone looking for something a bit lighter than normal German fare, but heftier than a salad. The salad with chicken breast (Blattsalat mit Hähnchenbrust) would be a great choice for a lighter meal; plenty of lettuce and enough chicken to make it a meal not a starter, but not heavily dressed or smothered in anything, so it still felt light. My wild boar bratwurst (Rheingauer Wildbratwurst) was fantastic; grilled to perfection and with a nice bit of gamey flavor to make it even better than a normal bratwurst. Toss in some mashed potatoes and a huge pile of caramelized onions, and you've got a great meal. Definitely above average, and a place we'd recommend to anyone looking for a slightly fancier meal in Mainz.

This is a very hip place with a upscale feel. Pizza is good pizza, won't win any prizes. The bar is really good. I'd like to try it again, next time I'm in town in a couple years. Great for groups. Make a reservation. The outside seating is delightful.

    Amazing ceiling architecture

Fantastic ambiance! Such a neat place to visit. The beef tenderloin was perfectly seasoned and was a perfect medium rare. Highly recommend visiting this place if you are near.

I've had the opportunity to travel all around the world and this is my favorite restaurant in the world. The staff is very friendly and eager to please. I ordered the warm quinoa salad, I wanted salmon on it because I noticed a nice salmon dinner. It was no problem adding salmon to my dish and it was the best meal I've ever had. The Chardonnay I had to go with it was delicious. I would go there every day if I could, and I will go every time I come back to Frankfurt!!!!

Great meal close to my hotel. Weight staff were accommodating of my limited German. Great portions and reasonable prices.

One of the best in Mainz, Heiliggeist is a beautiful restaurant in an old building resembling a church or am old hospital. The food variety is large and so far I liked everything I had. From the classic Wiener Schnitzel to their very own pizzas called Croustartes, this restaurant is the right choice to go if you are only for a short period in Mainz. Service has room for improvement and especially I prefer it outside in the summer because inside is very loud. Try it!

Special pizza menu. And it's not the typical thin crusted pizza you find in germany!

Beautiful church that has been converted into a nice restaurant. The beautiful ceilings and interior of the restaurant made it a great setting. We went during fasching, so there were plenty of people dressed in costumes, but other than the "pirate couple" next to us, everyone surrounding us was dressed business casual. There isn't much privacy. The tables are pretty close together, so it felt like I was in an Oktoberfest tent with people behind directly behind us. With just a few inches to spare. Definitely a good place for groups of people, but not so much for a romantic date. It was really loud. The majority of my friends and I got the specialty pizza. I ordered "die secht" which is a veggie pizza, but my order was completely forgotten. I was definitely bummed out about that. The waiter apologized and claimed that they could cook it fast, but my husband and I ended up canceling that order. We decided to just share his pizza that had already arrived. He ordered "die acht." It had pepperoni/salami, red pepper, bacon and Gouda cheese. It was amazing. Probably one of the best pizzas I've had in Germany. It had a thicker crust and they were not stingy on the sauce. The waiter didn't seem happy that we cancelled the other pizza order, but it wasn't my fault that my initial order wasn't made. It's a shame that my pizza didn't come or I probably would have given this place 5 stars. The waitress spoke English and German. The menu wasn't in English, but Google Translate always helps. There is plenty or parking garages across the street. The kaiserschmarrm (German pancake with applesauce) was amazing and delicious!! It says it feeds two people, but honestly I think a whole family could spit split this dessert. We easily split this with 5 people. It was so good!

Went to Heiliggeist "Holy Spirit" in Mainz today for dinner with some friends. Sat outside because there's no AC inside the restaurant. Inside is an old church turned into a restaurant with vaulted ceilings and is really beautiful, we will have to go back once it gets cooler out. They make some deliciously cold drinks like their "Winzer Julep" (I had two!) pictured with the mint leaves. We ordered a flatbread as an appetizer to share and different meals like the grilled salmon, octopus salad, rumpsteak with mile high crispy onions and lemon chicken with couscous or quinoa (so good!). Overall the food was good and was not too heavy so I was really satisfied. Customer service was friendly but very very slow. Definitely go if you have plenty of free time on your hands and want something on the lighter side for dinner.

The food was good in my time in Germany. One of the highlights of my trip. They have a good selection of beer as well. Good atmosphere.

The first time we saw this restaurant by the Gutenberg Museum, we thought it looks like a pricy,…read moretouristy place. But some of our friends tried it and highly recommended it, so we went for lunch to try it out. This place seems to be busy at any time of the day, and it's easy to see why. The place is modern and comfortable, on one wall there are lots of head silhouette... wonder if there is any significance who these people are? Menu is in German, and we find the price is slightly high, but not unreasonable, and the food quality is definitely top notch! They have the ubiquitous schnitzel, pretzel, sausages as well as other traditional dishes, but also have things like coconut curry soup and tempura, and vegan items. When we went there, asparagus was in season, so they had a special asparagus menu, listing about 10 dishes featuring asparagus: asparagus soup, asparagus risotto, asparagus tempura, coconut asparagus panna cotta... We were glad because, just outside the restaurant, there is this huge farmers market, stalls after stalls selling big fat green and white asparagus, but as tourists staying at a hotel we have no way to cook them. Now finally a chance to try the fresh asparagus. I asked my German friends, "You buy the asparagus at the market and cook them home?" "Ja!" "And you order them at restaurants too?" "Oh yes, we eat them several days a week. Because the season is very short." So what happen when the season is over? "We have to wait till next year." "They don't have them at supermarkets?" "No, because then they are not fresh they are no good!" Needless to say, we had the best asparagus of our lives, after which, we just don't bother with American asparagus anymore...

There is no menu in English but you can muddle through, I know you can. I had a lovely plate of cheese, meat, jelly, a hard-boiled egg, and some decorative fruit with a generous basket of bread. There was a liver wurst option on the menu that I substituted with cheese. There was a goat cheese on this plate that was really great. I ate little bites on bread and also had a chai latte. There is a cozy eating area in the back where you can sit and eat on comfy chairs with a coffee table. They also have books and magazines to read. How cool! The service was exceptional and lunch here was about $10-- you can't beat that especially for the quality and quantity of food. Thank you, Hintz and Kuntz for a lovely stop in Mainz.
