The only caution is that if you're planning to go for dinner on a warm evening, this place has no AC and gets quite hot. Decided to give this place a try based on good reviews and I wasn't disappointed! I came solo around 4:45-5 pm on a Tuesday and was able to sit with with two kind women who allowed me to join their table (communal seating). Everything else was booked from 6 pm onward! Cash only, but if you have to go to an ATM like I did, there is one very close by in the Cathedral area. I ordered the breaded schnitzel stuffed with raclette cheese and ham with a side salad (it was so good!) Would definitely recommend and return here again. read more

I fly to Mainz frequently and was tired of the "usual hangouts" so I gave this place a try. Close Enough to the walking street but a little off the beaten path , this restaurant was perfect for an authentic German restaurant experience. The inside was so welcoming and quaint. I was pleased with the menus offerings of meat and meatless dishes. I chose the veal schnitzel. It was delicious and the fried potatoes as always were amazing. However, being a "Tourist -German food lover ", I really missed the peppercorn sauce that usually comes with schnitzel. Since coming here in 1991, the peppercorn sauce was always part of the whole experience and they did not offer this at this restaurant. I did find the wine menu to be quite extensive and delicious and the menu selections were excellent. They need more outdoor seating especially when the weather is nice , however the staff was attentive the food was fresh and delicious and I will definitely come here again. But I would also recommend a super creamy heavy "American" sauce for the schnitzel as an option. The fried apple slices polished off this delicious dinner. This restaurant does NOT accept cards as an payment method except over €50. And most dishes in Germany come with a small salad as well I felt like this was a bit overpriced for the amount of food that I received a nice small green salad would have been an excellent complement given the price read more

We had a wonderful dinner. Wiener Schnitzel was the best. I had the meatball. The outside was crispy and filled with a little cheese. The tomatoes that went with it were great! This was recommended by an expat colleague, and I couldn't be happier. While I was the only natural English speaker in the very small restaurant, the servers were fantastically accommodating (with my poor attempts at German). And the food and wine were outstanding. The lamb loin roast with feta salad was honestly one of the best meals I've had. If I ever get the chance to come back to Mainz, this will be my first stop. Great little place that is communal-table style. I was a little confused coming in at first since as I was directed to join an almost full table, but everyone was very friendly. Food was served quickly and was delicious (I had the schnitzel) and wine is cheap, with a large selection to choose from. Upon entering, we were first asked to show our Covid Vaccine Certificate. Without this, you are welcome to sit outside. This check speaks highly of this restaurant because they are prepared to protect everybody's interest. And it is worth having the certificate on-hand (n.b., a phone photo won't do) because inside it is small and cozy. Despite the waiter being very busy, he was extremely gracious, efficient, and spoke good-enough English. After a couple shots of plumb schnapps, I had the schnitzel. It was my first night in Germany, I was anxious for my favorite comfort food, and it did not disappoint. Served with a warm potato salad just like Omi's. As Americans honeymooning in Mainz with no knowledge of the German language this was our favorite restaurant we visited in our 2 weeks abroad. There is community seating, so if you don't want to sit with strangers, it's not the place for you. Personally, I didn't think I would like this, but the experience was great. The eating area is very small so we initially thought we'd have to wait, but we were seated right away at a table for six with two different parties already drinking. The expectation is that you just find a seat on your own at restaurants in Germany as there is no host or hostesses, but we didn't know this at the time and they kindly asked the table to make room for us. We sat with a middle aged gentleman and a younger couple who were lovely company who recommended great drinks and food. The restaurant did have an English menu and the servers spoke good English. I had the schnitzel and pommes frites which was the best I had in the 3 German cities we went to, my husband had the German Meatloaf which was a bologna-like meat in the shape of a ham steak. I tried that and it was good as well, but I was happy my choice. We split a dessert which was good too! Notably, this place is cash only. Prices were good. Like every place is germany, there is no tap water served and buying still water is more expensive than beer or wine. They had a great wine list and let me sample one prior to ordering a glass. A great place to enjoy some local, typical german food. The owners (also waitresses) are super nice and very welcoming. The food is very tasty and the menu offers a whole range of typical dishes for pretty low prices. The wine menu is very extensive and offers all sorts of local wines. We sat next to a woman who has been coming here once a week for 40 years and claims it's one of the very best weinstubs in Mainz. She told us you can ask to try the wines instead of ordering a whole glass right away, but we didn't get a chance to actually apply this advice. Highly recommended! Great experience! read more

Its an intimate eating area, and each table has t's own, real candle, no matter the size of the table they are meant for sharing. Its a small area with seating for about 50, so a little tight. Very small, quaint, wood-paneled wine bar with very extensive regional wine list. My wife and I had a wonderful experience. She had a regional specialty, a crepe-like pancake stuffed with a feta cheese salad, which she liked. I had a grilled lamb steak and salad which was quite good. But the best were the hefty pours of delicious Rhine valley wines, very reasonably priced at less than 4 euro each! This is the best schnitzel in the area hands down. I make it a point to eat here at least once every trip. My favorite is the regular Wiener schnitzel which has a panko like crust comes with separate cranberry dipping sauce and crispy fried potatoes. Work colleagues say the lamb filet is great too I just can't stop getting the schnitzel. Also have a jager schnitzel that is good. Be prepared to wait a bit. Felt like I was eating in someone's living room with friends. Typical German food (great English menu). Super friendly staff (the owner), great wine. Would have given 5 stars but my schnitzel was served over brown bread that was over-toasted, making it very difficult to eat. I would have preferred the bread along side and add some potatoes (just the schnitzel and a little salad left me wanting more). But definitely delicious. Will certainly go back! read more
