My favourite place to eat in Mainz. Typical German restaurant with all the traditional meals. Little cozy restaurant, with excellent service and my favourite, schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce.

Went here with my family to experience my first German restaurant. This is one interesting place... people from all over, people in suits, people in shorts and a strange looking creature on the wall. I learned later, the creature was something akin to our jack-a-lope here in Colorado but with a German flare. My Sister-In-Law did all the ordering since I don't speak German. She ordered me a Dunkel, some Schnitzel and what I believe was Pumpkin soup. Who knew Pumpkin soup could be so tasty, thick and creamy. Be fore warned, the portions are bigger than average here. I wouldn't hesitate to visit here again.

Came here on Christmas Eve, the place is packed with every table reserved. Most of the patrons here are airline crew celebrating Christmas eve away from home. I've always loved pork schnitzel, and it's always a staple everytime visiting Germany! This time is no exception, classic pork schnitzel with brown mushroom sauce never fails! Loving the family oriented atmosphere, where menu is written on graph paper and our waitress wrote down numbers with pens on paper!

Most of my co-workers eat here. I heard about it for years and years and years, and I finally got to try it out. After a short of a lengthy walk from the hotel, we find this unassuming restaurant filled with diners outside the establishment. Yes, it's my first proper sit down restaurant in Germany, so this spot will be the one to baptize me on my very first schnitzel. Not that rubbish made with chicken either, they created that for americans. I prefer the full on pork schnitzel. The food came and it's topped with white asparagus and smothered in cream sauce. Mmmmmmmmmm!!! It looks crazy amazing. The batter was crispy, plus combined with the cream sauce it's rich and hella yummy. The asparagus complements the whole dish as a flavor cutter since you need at least a vegetable to cleanse out the palette a little. Was it the best schnitzel I have ever had?? No... no sir not at all, BUT! I enjoyed the crap out of it. The service and the dining experience was very pleasant. The girl who was assigned to us was very attentive. She checked in on us from time to time, even the owner came to help out. Until the time somebody shows me where the real good stuff if. This is my measuring stick for schnitzel here in Mainz. Thank you so much for a pleasant dining experience. Weeeeeeeeeee!

Prost!

A frequent stop from crew members on layover from my airline, and it's easy to see why once there. Prices are great and portions are large. Is it the place to go for the most incredible schnitzel of your life? Well, no. But it is quite tasty and will satisfy the craving and then some! Not to mention, the staff is always quite attentive, friendly, and prompt. It's tucked away on a side street, so it's a quiet location if you're particularly looking for that. If the weather allows it, sit outside! All in all, you can't go wrong here. Vier Sterne.

This is one of my go to places. Nice patio and great food! Service is a little slow with a big crowd but the food is worth it

The first time we saw this restaurant by the Gutenberg Museum, we thought it looks like a pricy,…read moretouristy place. But some of our friends tried it and highly recommended it, so we went for lunch to try it out. This place seems to be busy at any time of the day, and it's easy to see why. The place is modern and comfortable, on one wall there are lots of head silhouette... wonder if there is any significance who these people are? Menu is in German, and we find the price is slightly high, but not unreasonable, and the food quality is definitely top notch! They have the ubiquitous schnitzel, pretzel, sausages as well as other traditional dishes, but also have things like coconut curry soup and tempura, and vegan items. When we went there, asparagus was in season, so they had a special asparagus menu, listing about 10 dishes featuring asparagus: asparagus soup, asparagus risotto, asparagus tempura, coconut asparagus panna cotta... We were glad because, just outside the restaurant, there is this huge farmers market, stalls after stalls selling big fat green and white asparagus, but as tourists staying at a hotel we have no way to cook them. Now finally a chance to try the fresh asparagus. I asked my German friends, "You buy the asparagus at the market and cook them home?" "Ja!" "And you order them at restaurants too?" "Oh yes, we eat them several days a week. Because the season is very short." So what happen when the season is over? "We have to wait till next year." "They don't have them at supermarkets?" "No, because then they are not fresh they are no good!" Needless to say, we had the best asparagus of our lives, after which, we just don't bother with American asparagus anymore...

I had a great breakfast here at lunch time. This cute little cafe is right next to the Gutenberg…read moreMuseum which was my destination. There is no menu in English but you can muddle through, I know you can. I had a lovely plate of cheese, meat, jelly, a hard-boiled egg, and some decorative fruit with a generous basket of bread. There was a liver wurst option on the menu that I substituted with cheese. There was a goat cheese on this plate that was really great. I ate little bites on bread and also had a chai latte. There is a cozy eating area in the back where you can sit and eat on comfy chairs with a coffee table. They also have books and magazines to read. How cool! The service was exceptional and lunch here was about $10-- you can't beat that especially for the quality and quantity of food. Thank you, Hintz and Kuntz for a lovely stop in Mainz.
