German hospitality We had a wonderful meal at this traditional apple wine pub. The food was tasty, the portions were generous and the staff were friendly and attentive! This is German hospitality at it's best!!

Atschel is a traditional apple wine pub in Sachsenhausen, bustling with locals getting together for drinks and food. This was a perfect place to try some Frankfurt specialties, including Handkäs, a creamy local cheese mixed with sour cream, radishes, scallions, and red onions, served with brown farmer's bread on the side. Another tasty selection was the Schnitzel (a thin, breaded pork fillet) served with "green sauce," a local specialty made of sour cream mixed with herbs. The green sauce had a delectable, herbaceous flavor and creamy texture that paired nicely with the schnitzel, salad, and bread! Overall, this was a great eatery for tasty food and apple wine at reasonable prices, though the service was a little rough.

Make a reservation, make a reservation, make a reservation! I can't stress this enough because this place is tiny. They allow for walk-ins in their beer garden, which is also very small. We were asked to get up from our table that we had grabbed after walking in because a large group was coming in after us and wanted to sit together. We had no issue moving. They were very kind and we understood entirely. Food was outstanding, my husband had the Frankfurt schnitzel, which was massive. I don't think the photo properly shows how big the two pieces of schnitzel was, yes, there's two in that photo one on top of the other. I had the Wienerschnitzel in Calb aka veal. It was delicious, piping, hot, and very tender. Veal can be extremely tricky to cook, and it was definitely done properly here. All the sides and the salads were refreshing. Flavors and seasoning were perfect. This place has great food and fantastic service, its only downfall is how tight things are in the restaurant and Biergarten. They're using the space to the best of their ability, but just like to give review readers a heads up in advance. Again, I can't stress enough to make a reservation so you can eat inside, the beer garden is only outside and it can get a bit chilly since it is shaded after 4 PM.

Cute little restaurant tucked away where the locals go...luckily someone at Atomix recommended this place to my mom so coming from a Frankfurt local we had to give it a try! Called in advanced while walking to see if we needed reservations; they do but for 2 people around 5:00pm they were able to seat us! Known for the apple wine I had to give it a try, I ordered with still/natural and it was pretty good and smooth. I ordered the beef tenderloin with potatoes on the side thinking it was just going to be the beef, however, it appeared to look like a hamburger patty with capers, didn't really appeal to me but the sautéed onions and potatoes were delicious, my mother actually enjoyed my dish. She ordered the Schnitzel with the homemade 7 herb green sauce which tasted amazing I was dipping everything in it! My mother and I were actually 1 of the first people to be seated, however, once 5:30ish came around people coming in non stop and the atmosphere just light up with families/friends having a good time! You definitely have to try when around the area! Just make sure to make a reservation if you have a larger party!

Handkäse Tartar ....very nice! The bread was great

I like this place, on the smaller side but there are some larger tables in the back the food is great and service is always good, even if it's busy. The menu is large with lots of options.

Last night in Frankfurt and we wanted one last taste of Germany (after visiting the Porsche museum in Stuttgart!!!) before heading back to the Big Apple . "Atschel" was open late and we were able to get schweinshaxe, veal schnitzel, braised pork cheeks and gallons of beer on tap before wrapping up a great Automechanika Frankfurt 2024. Definitely stop here for some authentic local goodness. Warm hospitality from the entire staff and a complimentary brandy on our way out!

Best Schweinhaxe and Schnitzel we've had in 5 trips all over Germany. Isi was an amazing server. Kind, helpful, and really made us feel welcome. 10/10 meal and 10/10 service! Not pictured is the apple strudl! Outstanding! Danke Isi

Amazing typical German restaurant with a very warm atmosphere, outstanding prices and wonderful and caring staff. We sat at a communal tables and met the most interesting people which gave a huge boost to our evening. I had an onion soup (delicious) and a Wiener Schnitzel. Both tasted incredibly good, the portions were very generous. This place is an absolute must-try while in Frankfurt.

    Everything tasted FABULOUS!

Finally! I lived in Frankfurt 20 years ago, and am back for a visit. The food scene has changed! I was looking for a Jaegerschnitzel, and I finally found a great one. I really miss my traditonal German food at home, and was pretty disappointed with other places that used to be stellar. But most of all, the customer service was great. Staff here actually acted as if they were happy to see you and bring you food, which is not the norm here. I might be spoiled from the U.S., but we have encountered some of the rudest wait staff at other places. Beautiful outside seating, We arrived around 4pm, so it was still early. If you go later, I would suggest reserving. So, we ordered Jaegerschnitzel with Spaetzl, Sulze, and Bratworscht mit Kartoffelbrei, and all of it was fabulous! Warning, the portions are huge! No doggy bags here, so be hungry. Of course: Apfelwein. I am here during Corona, so a vacine pass, negative test, or recory statement is necessary to enter the restaurant. Will be back before leave.

We were there because of YouTuber. We have a long lay over . Good what great service was excellent. The restaurant giving a good local vibe and people that come in made us feel like wow we showed up in the right place . It's only 5-10 mins walk from iron bridges. Loving everything here

Pork ribs, beef sausage and pork sausage

We ordered the frankfurter but it was difficult to understand what the waiter was saying so we ended up with 3 entrees instead of 2 - not terrible since we has a chance to try different meals. Ribs are not what we expected - it's more of a pork chop. The mashed potatoes were amazing.

This place was wonderful! I felt awkward not speaking German and not having a reservation but the friendly folks at Atschel made room for us in the garden room, which was covered, warm, had plenty of sunlight and was absolutely perfect! We ordered two types of schnitzel and it was by far the best I've had in my life. Thin, hot, and tender meat with a delicious crunch to the coating. We also had some apfel wine, a dark beer, a blonde beer, and some shots with some sort of fruit in them. Everything was delicious, well priced, and we felt so well taken care of. Can't wait to return to Frankfurt and go back!

Nice ambience and staff all speak English and are good at suggesting dishes to try! Beware portions are large - even by American standards!! My partner and I got 2 apps and a main to share and could not finish. We got the hand cheese music(?), beef sausage salad and a mushroom schnitzel. The schnitzel was by far the star of the show (as we should have expected)! The cheese is famous so we had to try it but sheep's cheese is a bit too strong for me and it had a harder texture than I prefer. My partner liked it though so I'd recommend giving it a shot if you're adventurous!! We also got their homemade lemonade which was a fizzy raspberry lemonade. Pretty good as well but wish I had tried one of their ciders!
