So I've been to this restaurant countless times over the years. You can't go wrong if you're looking for a decent jäger schnitzel or schweinhawkse. The owner is a bit of a crudgemudgeon but that makes him endearing in my opinion. The guy works very hard to make a living. On last visit decide to try the jäger schnitzel made with chicken this time instead of pork. Not bad but I'll stick with pork from now on. Your choice of fries, spätzle,home fries of mashed potatoes. I'm partial to mashed to use the mushroom gravy on. I like to order a side of red cabbage to go with mine. Note- drink beer. It's cheaper than bottled water. Small bottles 3 euro. We found this local gem on Yelp and are SO happy that we did! If you're looking for traditional German eats in Frankfurt, this is your spot! It is run by a husband and wife team and despite the restaurant being super busy (full of locals), service was still speedy! You can tell a lot of local airline crew members eat here on their overnights because they have one full wall covered in airline stickers. That must mean it's GOOD. On to the food! I ordered a cup of their goulash soup and it was SO flavorful. For my entree I ordered the pork schnitzel that came with the yummiest sautéed potatoes and onions. I will absolutely be dreaming about this schnitzel for days to come. I loved the fresh lemon to squeeze on top and the green sauce that they serve on the side is amazing. It is almost like a tartar sauce with lots of herbs. My husband ordered their split pea soup and goulash dinner that came with boiled potatoes, both were also superb! I would give 0 stars if I could, the worst costumers device on the planet, care in, nobody knowledge us for about 15 min, sat by a table with people trying to order a small beer, the guy said he only would bring big one because he would come back again with another one, rude so rude than he said they could just leave, we stayed because we could not understand what was going on, the we order water so we could decide what to drink, he got furious and left saying he runa business and we need to drink and left. Ordered a Pils and the Mixed Grill for dinner. The Pils tasted like the beer lines had not been cleaned in some time. As you can see in the picture the mixed grill was under whelming. The 8 little pieces of lettuce were on the plate for some unknown reason. The meat portions were small and slightly over cooked. No mustard, sauces or ketchup brought to the table. This is the worst experience I ever had in Germany since 2006. We just started to order Hungarian goulash soup, Schweinefleisch, beer and hot milk for 2 pax. The boss just complained that we ordered too less, and asked us to leave the restaurant, not served us at all with very rude manner. The food is great. This place is an institution there, and obviously been there a very long time. The service, well, it is run by a cranky older German man, but if you are very nice to him, you'll have a better time. I made sure my hotel called to insure I had a reservation, because even though you might wander in and think this is not the reservation type of place, it is. They got really busy right after we arrived. If you're looking for courtesy, go somewhere else but if you want amazing German food in Frankfurt, this is the joint. The Schweinshaxe was crazy good. It was worth humoring the grumpy owner to be allowed to eat. My Diet Coke was flat, no carbonation, (I don't drink, so no beer), but I wasn't going to complain. Think "soup man" from Seinfeld. We have eaten at this restaurant for years every time we are in Frankfurt. Delicious food..very much home cooked style. Interior is very traditional style and yes the owner can be rather curt, but after living in Germany for 5 years it's the Germany way to be very efficient and to the point. And besides that he is busy! Try the schweinhaxe..out of this world yummy. And perhaps learning a few words of German would go a long way and help with the way one is treated in a country that is not ones own. We have always said greetings, thank you's and a few words of compliments about the food and have never had an issue. Conveniently located near Freedom Bridge on the Main and a €13 Uber ride from the airport area hotels. We were in Frankfurt on a long layover and in a desperate mood for good German comfort food. We found what we were looking for at Baseler Eck. The food was very tasty and with the usual generous German portion sizes. We had dinner and a couple of beers before taking a walk through the park along the river. Prices were reasonable and true to our quest we were quite comfortable with our experience. This was the worst restaurant in Frankfurt that I went to. The service was really bad and they just throw the food on our table and the change as well. The food was mediocre and was just ok. The salad was dry on the top which means that it was pre-made and was sitting there for a long time. I am not sure if the waiter was racist or just didn't like us but he gave us the Chinese menu without asking and served the white couples first even though they came later also they ordered the same food as ours. The waiter never asked how we were doing and I wanted some mustard with my sausage but I never got it. DON'T GO here and there are restaurants that are soooo much better such as Zu den 12 Aposteln, Zum Gemalten Haus or Apfelwein Dax. The French fries are crispy but taste frozen--opt for the home fries, which are cooked to just the right balance of tender and crunchy, instead. This is my third time im Frankfurt and third time in this restaurant, and baseler eck is the place you must stop by and enjoy it whenever you are in Frankfurt. The pork knuckle is just too darn good and huge in portion, the cripy skin with super tender meat underneath it, if you're having a bad mood that day, this pork knuckle will knock every single bit of bad mood out from you. Fantastic schweinhaxen (pork knuckle) number 112 on the menu. You have a choice of sides, French fries, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, saurkraut. I chose potatoes and saurkraut. The pork knuckle is crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. It literally falls off the bone. Ordered a side of spatzel and it was just the right texture and seasoned perfectly. Price for dinner 10.80 euro, very reasonable. The man who takes your order speaks good English and he is a little feisty, so beware. Wish the plate had more saurkraut and only downfall is if you want dumplings it takes 30 minutes to order. We had a group of 8 for dinner and no problem with seperate checks. I rarely write any reviews but i really do want to share my experience this time. My hubby and I am from Canada, we went to Europe for vacation this Summer. The awful experience we got would never be forgotten. Because we only stayed in Frankfurt for 2 days, my hubby was really want to try the pork hock, so we picked the closest place to our hotel, which is this restaurant. We got in at 9pm only to try the pork hock. We sat down and order one dish and one drink. However, i believed it's the owner, he warned us that we needed to order a full meal per person. Considering i was a petite size woman and already ate my dinner (i told the owner as well), i could not eat anymore. We smile and explained we were tourist and would like to try the dish even we were full, but he still said "this is not funny, how could 2 people come in and order one meal only?" in a very RUDE attitude and kept going on to insult us. Located very near the main train station in Frankfurt. It is an easy walk. My colleague and I had a great meal. He had a schnitzel and I had the schweinshaxen. The staff spoke great English and had English menus. I think they cater to the tourist. The couple next to us spoke Japanese and they had a menu for them. Baseler Corner is just an old school local German gasthaus. No glam or glimmer. Food is pure and authentic, if your complaining about the food, you have had bad German food elsewhere. This place was seating and taking reservations by 5:45pm as we walked in. One would not even had thought this place would facilitate reservations. But it's a local hotspot for Corporate diners taking guest out. Flight crews visit on occasions, which always is a clue for GOOD/EXCELLENT food done at a great price. Jager Sauce has to be one of best in years. Keep up the great food. BTW, there is one man that takes order and delivers. One bartender in the corner tapping down great bear and a run around assistant. So don't think your in a swanky place that someone is tending to your every cry or nagging mentions. I came here with my parents and brother after getting a recommendation from another family member who had been there many times. The food was incredibly delicious (especially the jägerschnitzel.) The first clue regarding the restaurant was that there were only tourists in the restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant was bleak at best. I ordered the pig knuckle. It was totally dry. The mashed potatoes were not good at all as was the sauerkraut. I was a single dinner and was hustled out of the restaurant because some people were started to come in. When you walk in it's a typical German family restaurant with a bit of traveler memorabilia due to it's proximity to the train station and the flight crews that go there on layovers. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that flight crews know where to go for a mix of food, service and value. The owner is a charming man who seems to take genuine interest in his guests, and took the time to explain dishes to us that we didn't quite know what they really were. The bier, of course, is fresh German bier. I had Nuremburger (sp?) sausages with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Wonderful! The sausages were grilled, potatoes perfect and I love red cabbage. My partner has the schweinhaxen (pork knuckle) and said it was great. We were offered desserts but were too full after eating our meals and having a second bier each. But we did take advantage of the little shot of booze that most family run German restaurants seem to offer. Perfect way to end a great meal! I really don't think we had an experience different from everyone else there, they all seemed to be having a great time. Maybe the other reviewer who left one star was there on an off night? Or maybe he did something like walk in drunk or disrespectful in some way?
