Ordered a Pils and the Mixed Grill for dinner. The Pils tasted like the beer lines had not been cleaned in some time. As you can see in the picture the mixed grill was under whelming. The 8 little pieces of lettuce were on the plate for some unknown reason. The meat portions were small and slightly over cooked. No mustard, sauces or ketchup brought to the table. The older gentleman working which I assumed was the owner was pleasant. Would not come back or recommend when in Frankfurt.

I can't say how much we liked this place. The vibe is German, our server was an old gentleman his family own this place. 6 min walk from the central station. Do the walk and you will not regret it. He gave us great advice and we were in love and with full bellies. Go hungry. Posting picture of my meal and no shame ate 90% of it. Go go go go giggly recommend it

Wurst and mash, and Schweinshaxe. OMG it was delicious.

The food is great. This place is an institution there, and obviously been there a very long time. The service, well, it is run by a cranky older German man, but if you are very nice to him, you'll have a better time. I made sure my hotel called to insure I had a reservation, because even though you might wander in and think this is not the reservation type of place, it is. They got really busy right after we arrived. If you're looking for courtesy, go somewhere else but if you want amazing German food in Frankfurt, this is the joint. The Schweinshaxe was crazy good. It was worth humoring the grumpy owner to be allowed to eat. My Diet Coke was flat, no carbonation, (I don't drink, so no beer), but I wasn't going to complain. Think "soup man" from Seinfeld. The food is that good. Call ahead. Eat. Well. I'll go back next time, too. Best German food in Frankfurt.

    Pork knuckle. Fabulous

Found this restaurant on yelp and had a wonderful experience. Easy to find local restaurant with exceptionally good solid German food at very reasonable price. As a single diner was offered a table in bar area if I was open to share (didn't have to) but this is common practice in Europe. Showed a picture of what I wanted (pork knuckle) which was fabulous. Returned on my last night to try the jagerschnitzel ... yummy!

My flight crew recommended coming to this restaurant because they've been coming here for years. Perfect and friendly service, English menu's, and the servers speak English too. The food was outstanding. I had the pork knuckle and my colleague had the pork cordon blue, both were excellent choices.

Great restaurant for pork knuckle. Very crispy and lots of meat. Prices are reasonable. Owners serve you and are helpful if you don't know what to order. Of course, everybody including our group orders the schweinshaxe (pork knuckle).

This is the best restaurant in Frankfurt were locals eat. The best pig knuckle in Germany!!! Tasty platters and you must have the homemade apple streusel with vanilla ice cream.

This is my third time im Frankfurt and third time in this restaurant, and baseler eck is the place you must stop by and enjoy it whenever you are in Frankfurt. The pork knuckle is just too darn good and huge in portion, the cripy skin with super tender meat underneath it, if you're having a bad mood that day, this pork knuckle will knock every single bit of bad mood out from you. The service is very nice, the staffs and the owner are very polite, overall I have never encounter any rudeness mentioned in other comments. Love this place, you got to try it. Btw, the portion is really big, it might even be enough to serve 2.

And you're immediately sat at bench like accommodations. We had our dinner a bit early since we had just landed, but keep in mind during busier hours, you may have to share your table with another party. We ordered the spaetzle, the vegan schnitzel, a lemonade and an apple wine. It took a bit but everything (but the drinks) were delivered piping hot and generously portioned. The spaetzle itself was cheesy and tender, with a lovely pile of caramelized onions on top.The salad provided helped to cut through the richness. The apple wine was nice and tart. And for 3 euros they pour with a heavy hand! The vegan schitznel, could not tell it was vegan as all. Very similar to chicken, with a crisp outer shell. The herb sauce served on the side was a nice burst of freshness on an otherwise heavy dish. The staff was overall kind. Maybe a bit slow, but nothing to scoff at. The food was great, the alcohol was cheap. What better way to start off your German adventure?

I took a bus there so I can't comment on the parking situation in the area. Ambiance (4/5): From the outside, Atschel looks like a homey, traditional restaurant. Which is exactly what I was looking for when it cam to my first dining experience in Germany. There's a charming inside area with wooden walls as well as a patio area in the back. I sat inside. Drinks (4/5): Frankfurt is known for apelwein or apple wine. So when in Rome...I had the apelwein spritz which adds soda and Aperol. I will say that straight up apelwein is not my jam. It's nice to try while you're in Frankfurt, but it's too bitter and vinegar-ey for me. With that being said, when you mix it in with Aperol and soda, it's pretty solid. And if you're in a group, you can get the apelwein served in large stone mugs which is pretty cool. Outside of that, they have a lot of beer, as you would expect, and pretty much everything else. Service (4.5/5): I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and attentive the service was (which is typically not the norm in Europe). Our waitress checked on me, thanked me and said goodbye as I was leaving, and overall, did a great job. Food (4/5): Since this is a traditional German restaurant, I had to go with another Frankfurt specialty: Viener schitznel with green sauce. Schnitzel just means a thin cutlet (often pork) that is breaded. The green sauce is made from seven herbs and while it's a tad bit herb-ey for my taste, it was still interesting to try. The dish is served with fried potatoes. Filling and hearty as you would expect from a German meal. For my first meal in Germany, it was a great start to my trip.

The sauce is a local delicacy and is a must with German food. The dish was loaded down with three types of sausage, eggs, roasted potatoes, sauerkraut, a pork knuckle, and about four schnitzels. I highly recommend getting this to share. It is diverse, and very filling. The atmosphere here is cozy, and their patio is a great summer hangout. Our server was very friendly and on the spot.
