So just wondering with an employee stating that she is working alone .... once I asked was she going to greet me .... she was having such a ruff day, immediately after just smiling and chatting with the white lady ahead of me . But dry as hell as soon as she walked off no greet or anything . So sad that we (black people ) don't deserve a greeting . This was my first time being in roses store. It has a mishmash of a variety of things including food, clothing and house goods. It's a discount store that has decent prices and cluttered with disorganized items. The store has a basic organization flow but the items are not in a tidy and neat way. Overall, if you're on a budget or like looking for a deal, looking for basic home goods items at a discount then you will enjoy shopping here. read more

Miss Robin at the Roses in Jacksonville went way above and beyond. The store was closing, my daughter was in a pinch for a business type outfit for a mock interview, and finding anything in her small size is always a challenge. Robin helped us find options, gave opinions on the match and look (I'm the Dad not in tune with teen fashion and color blind), and made sure we left with a full outfit and dressy shoes. I will start off by saying, the Rose's associates in your Jacksonville location are always courteous and helpful. Fortunately for your customers they do better than your management team. On 2/8/24 I purchased 2 three door wardrobes. Item number 543043. The associate in the stock department was extremely helpful and loaded the 200lb boxes into my truck. Both boxes were torn and retaped. He instructed me to hang on to my receipt in case I have any problems. Once I arrived home we unloaded and carried both wardrobes to the upstairs bedroom. On 2/9 I began assembling the 1st wardrobe. All went well. The same night I unboxed the 2nd wardrobe that had been retaped since the box was falling apart. I soon discovered there was absolutely no hardware. I called the store that night at 7pm. Asked for a manager who apologized for the inconvenience and told me to come in to get the hardware from another wardrobe. I asked who should I ask for? He stated, go to customer service and ask for some in the stock department. The next morning, I did just that. The stock associate took me straight to the back and began looking to solve my issue. Im assuming he went to the stock room and saw there were no wardrobes in stock. He offered to give me the hardware from a 2 door wardrobe but I explained to him that wouldn't work because I purchased a 3 door wardrobe. He excused himself and brought another associate who said I would need to return the item for a refund. I didn't want a refund. I wanted the hardware that was offered to me the night before. I also explained that I don't have the box and all the pieces are spread out in my upstairs bedroom. That associate excused herself and got the GM. The GM dismissively stated, I can't do anything for you other than accept the return. I explained that I live 25 miles from your store and would not have come empty handed if this was explained to me. She stated she didn't know why her other manager would tell me that the night before. I replied, I don't know either, he doesn't work for me, he works for you. Again, she dismissively said, you can go get all the pieces to return it and shrugged her shoulders. I traveled the 50 mile round trip with the pieces loaded in my truck. The staff unloaded and I was refunded. As a government supervisor I understand we must conduct business within our policies and procedures but where was the customer service? In this particular situation your GM lacked good customer service skills, critical thinking, problem solving and the desire to assist. She didn't offer to call other locations for the item. She didn't offer to sell me the assembled wardrobe that was on display. At no point was any of this my error but yet I beared all the weight of the inconveniences. Sometimes, simply gestures like the ones previously stated could have ended this debacle on a better note. read more

Since being here I'd have to say this is a pretty good store. No! I'm not gonna lie I think it's pretty awesome! They have such a variety of things from clothing, household goods, cleaning supplies, makeup and beauty products, and I've even seen furniture in here! Now to top that off this store has at times had name brand products and clothing articles. Grant it they do have that black slash across the tag but heck you aren't paying full price for it. This store at the time was a bit disorganized but I believe it was due to the truck coming in and stocking. The employees are friendly with the exception of an older lady in there that is pretty bossy. But, I'm sure locals just over look her...lol The prices in Roses are pretty hard to beat depending upon what it is. Did I mention that they also have food products such as dry goods and bottles waters, juices and such. For a family with many younglings this is a great store for clothing as well as snacks. I'm really impressed with the items you can find in here. Don't let the store fool you into thinking they are just a cheap store with dollar stuff it's not ... Go check it out and see the deals on items in comparison to some of your top leading brands and stores ... You'll be glad you did when you are leaving with a few more dollars in your pocket due to saving! I'd diff recommend Roses. read more

Everytime we go into Roses an employee greats and asks us what we are looking for and then points out what they have. Looking around the store there is no pressure to buy, which makes us feel more comfortable shopping at our own pace. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable about their furniture. We bought our bedroom set from them last year and recently purchased a couch. We will definitely keep using them! read more

Roses is kind of a knockoff kmart. But since all the kmarts closed this would be a good place to get those same kinds of items. You can find some really steals once in awhile like blue tooth speakers or air fryers....they have everything a kmart would have. read more

I love Rose's. Well, I guess I actually I love Rose's as it used to be: the old downtown dime store on Court Street with the hardwood floors and the perpetual smell of fresh popcorn that would engulf you as you entered the door; the big "new" store in New River Shopping Center that before Kmarts or WalMarts were even heard of here drew in the whole community, the whole county, where you could pop a balloon to get the price inside for what you'd pay for a banana split at the sizeable snack bar. I love the Roses's with Mrs. Rena Kellum and the other ladies who worked for Rose's their whole lives, who knew you and your parents and who we looked forward to seeing every time we went in the store, from small child accompanying our parents, to adult. I loved the Rose's with display windows on the outside, like a real department store, to capture your attention with bikes and toys and unmoving male mannequins behind lawn mowers or grills, the unmoving ladies behind baby carriages or standing in bright sun dresses or slacks or other clothes of the season; the Rose's that was the NC company that spread throughout the southeast, providing jobs and managing to survive and even pay a dividend throughout the great depression. In short, I love the Rose's that is gone. What we have left, at least here in Jacksonville, is the Brynn Marr store, which seemed on my recent visit, at least somewhat more orderly than I remember from the time before: a clean but past its prime older discount store. The display windows have long been bricked over, leaving the exterior a long solid wall of boring beige, broken only by the single entrance. The Rose's that survived the depression collapsed into bankruptcy under the onslaught of the marts - first K then Wal, iin the 1990's, and now survives as part of a (still Henderson NC based) conglomerate of discount and dollar stores including Maxway as part of Variety Wholesale, and is operated mainly, as sort of a high end dollar store. What's left of Rose's is no longer a centerpiece of the community it used to serve, but it still serves as a useful outlet for everyday items at decent prices, where you can shop in some peace without threat of stampeding hordes and crying children by the legion, and that's still a good thing to have around. read more

Bargains, Bargains, Bargains... You do need to check over everything, but I was able to score pants for 10 that everyone else is selling for 30-35, heck even Wally World wanted 15 for their brand... I got department store quality for 10. You do have to be careful though because they do sell inferior quality too... A smart shopper can do some real shopping here if careful... read more

I like Rose's however the employees are either hit or miss whether they are nice or not. They normally have most of the things I look for when I go in there. Baby section is pretty cool too. You can find little things at a reasonable price. read more
