Roses on Adeline is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. We've tried most of the menu at this point, and everything is so damn good. Ambiance 10/10 and the decor is so cute. It's quirky and curated but also cozy and comfortable. The bartender/servers are super nice and seem to like working there + speak really highly of the owner. It's my go-to place to take anybody who visits, it feels very Berkeley/Oak. Highly recommend the smashburger and the crispy tofu lettuce cups. I'm not normally a burger person, but it's legit one of the best I've ever had. But for real, you can't go wrong with anything. Miso Cabbage, Rigatoni, Patatas Bravas, Heirloom Tomatoes and Corn - all in the rotation. I miss the carrots. Cocktails + drinks are also incredible. I love the Bees of Berkeley and Seasonal Smash. But my favorite drink is the alcohol-free Passion Flower. I occasionally add vodka lol, it's just hella tasty. My husband is a big fan of one of the non-alcoholic beers options too, the Steigl Citrone. Anyways, please try this restaurant!! We love it so much and want it to stay around forever. read more

I used to love this bar. I was a semi-regular, and I even had my first date during their grand opening in May 2024. During those days, I left thinking the food was incredible, the staff were warm, and I was happy to support a new local business. But after my most recent visit, I won't be coming back. I made a reservation for a group of friends, but when we arrived, no one greeted us. We stood awkwardly at the entrance for 10 minutes until someone behind the bar lazily shouted for us to "sit anywhere." No apology, no acknowledgment, nothing. The bartender actually looked annoyed at us for existing. Still, I tried to let it slide. Then the server came around to take our orders--except she completely skipped me. I was sitting right next to the first person she served. When I politely asked if she could take my order before walking away, she snapped at me, saying she was going around the table, then deliberately took my order last. I felt singled out and disrespected, but again, I tried to stay calm. I've worked in the service industry. I know how stressful it can get. Normally I'd brush off a rough night, but this experience kept getting worse. The restaurant wasn't even busy, but the service was shockingly slow. We waited a long time for food, which I could've lived with, if we at least had our drinks. But after nearly an hour, I spotted what looked like our drinks sitting on the counter, visibly melting. They'd clearly been made and forgotten. When the food finally arrived, I figured maybe the drinks weren't ready yet. But no--once the server dropped off our food, she casually grabbed the same melted, sad-looking drinks and handed them to us like nothing was wrong. No explanation. No apology. This was hands down one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. I genuinely don't know what happened between the opening and now, but the care, warmth, and basic professionalism are gone. And so is my patience. The food is almost as good as I remembered, but the portions have definitely shrunk while the prices have climbed. For example, fries used to be included with the smash burger. Now? They're a $4.50 upcharge on top of an already steep $19 burger. I don't know what magic they put in that patty, but $19? Really? The drinks they were just okay. I ordered the Rose Fizz, but by the time it finally made it to our table, the cream had separated from the rest of the drink. It looked curdled, messy, and honestly kind of gross. Not exactly the kind of presentation that makes you excited to take a sip. I'm sad to say that I won't be recommending this place again. It was such a cute spot to hangout in, but with the increasing prices and rude staff members, I'm out. read more

They do have a daily happy hour which is hard to find in such an attractive setting- but watery drinks are a bummer. We tried quite a few small dishes from the menu to share. Everything was fine, but based on the reviews I had read, I expected more creative renditions of items like the cheese plate (simple but uninspired), and the crudités. Fries were great but very salty. Service was sweet but spotty on a Saturday night. Our table was rarely cleared of the empty drinks and plates. This place is a gem. My colleagues and I ordered everything off the Happy Hour menu, a few more drinks and plates, and EVERYTHING was delicious. We went right at open on Monday the 1st and the interior is gorgeous. The way sunlight filled the room and the mix of antique and modern details was stunning. Rose was there to chat and share some special details about the space and Jennifer, the bar director, is informative and kind and fun and you really need to check it out before it's hard to get seated. And I know this might sound weird but ORDER THE BREAD AND BUTTER. Rose makes ittttttt and it's a party in your mouth. The merengue dessert has passion fruit custard or something inside??? And then the chocolate option?! With pistachios and cream on top... Some table faves were the hamachi ceviche, tofu wraps, and mushrooms. read more

Dropped by here sometime around Christmas with one other person. The place was busy! And you could tell the staff wasn't quite expecting how busy they'd be that evening. However, they still did an amazing job and provided excellent attentive service. After ordering, our food and drinks came out in a flash. The bread and cultured butter appetizer was incredible. Seriously some of the best butter I've ever had. The smash burger was top notch, with a perfect crunchy exterior to the patty while remaining juicy and flavorful. I loved the sesame seed bun (brioche imo is overplayed) and the fries were perfectly crispy. You could tell how much thought, time, and effort went into each and every dish. I stopped in to Roses for the first time this week to celebrate a career milestone. My companion and I ordered two drinks each to mark the occasion (and tasted each other's drinks): Rose Fizz = like a classic Ramos Fizz (my favorite drink) but with a very subtle rosewater note and pistachio caramel rim. The texture and alcohol ratio were good, but I found it a little less flavorful than I was expecting. The Money = a very creative blend of agave-based alcohol + dark chocolate + spice. Very very tasty, but didn't quite "wow" me. Hot Buttered Rum = Simple but excellent! Japanese Old-Fashioned = Absolutely fabulous, and worth it. Roses had a youthful yet classy and hip atmosphere, that worked for us as a date night location. We were dressed up, but jeans and tshirts would not be out of place. We didn't try the food, but we're excited to see some tasty looking items, including things that appeared to be vegetarian or vegan. The service was excellent. Just went last night (Monday) for a casual dinner at the bar, and was so happy we went to check it out. The food was superb, rigatoni was my favorite, but the new asparagus dish on the menu was very close second! House salad was also fantastic!! I recommend adding the sausage to the pasta, made it more substantial and the sausage was delicious! Cocktails were good, although the preserved lemon dirty martini was slightly salty, it did not deter us from having a great meal! Hope this place stays around for a while! The decor is phenomal! The beautiful tiled floors and the stained glass in the center of the bar sets it off. The restaurant was extremely busy but we tables opened up fairly quickly. It's open seating so wherever you find a seat take it. The wait staff was very kind and knowledgeable. There was a mix up with the ceviche and we were informed that they were out. The owner came over, corrected the mix up, and immediately brought us the ceviche. It was my first time trying ceviche and it was so good and spicy! The smash burger is super big and with fries can easily be a meal for two. For drinks we had the Summer Sangria which was super refreshing. Overall, would I recommend it? Absolutely! I understand that you must be 21 and older to be in the establishment. It writes clearly on the door. I just wanted to do a take out order and had my baby with me. Was just going to put in my order and wait outside. It took about 5 minutes for anyone to even notice me and then I was told my child couldn't be inside. I explained I just wanted to order to go. The bartender continues to explain the license they have and told me they love kids. I walked out without saying a word. But to the bartender are you trying to convince yourself you love kids or me ? Had dinner here for the soft opening. It's beautiful! Loved the ambiance and decor. Good acoustics, wasn't hard to hear each other even though it was crowded. They have a really interesting drinks menu. The rose fizz and berkeley bee are innovative variations of classic cocktails, and ranch waters and spritzes are lower alcohol. Red wines by the glass were some of my favorites including gamay, barbera, and cabernet franc. The food is similarly diverse, with generous portions. The vodka pasta with pesto and burrata has a spicy kick. The pulled pork nachos aree substantial, good to share. Everyone loved the kofta meatballs, tender and flavorful. The fried chicken is more of a katsu-style cutlet. We had the pavlova with orange slices and lemon curd for dessert, light and delicious, not something I usually see on menus. The very best. this place is so awesome that no matter how long I would go on about it it wouldn't do it justice. Every single person on the staff is on point whether they're just working weekends or not. I had the best cocktail have ever had in my entire life called the big gulp here and look forward to having it many times again. It gave me a brain freeze that at all tells you what's up with that drink and peaks. They have a sweet atrium type thing in the back where you can chill out with your peeps away from all of the rest of the din And the staff actually comes back to check on you.
