We came across this small restaurant/bar while staying in Amsterdam and were very happy with this find! This is a very casual, and relaxed place which has a variety of Dutch food on their menu. Service was top notch. Both the bartender and waiter were friendly and welcoming. They answered all our questions about the menu options/ daily specials and got our orders in very quickly. We ordered a bottle of red wine to split for a table of four which was a perfect portion. For food we tried: Stamppot: traditional Dutch dish that has mashed potatoes and sauerkraut topped with sausage. This was delicious! It was highly recommended by the bartender and I'm glad we listened to her suggestion. The mashed potatoes and sauerkraut combination is divine since it's like mashed potatoes with a little extra texture and a mildly pickled taste. The sausage was very good as well. Really flavorful without being too salty. This was my first time trying this dish so I don't have an established baseline but I thought this was a very hearty, delicious and comforting dish. Steak with mushrooms: my parents shared this and, although they loved the flavor of the pepper sauce, they thought the meat was a little bit overdone. Portion size was very nice and came with a little side salad. Kipsaté (Chicken skewers): I ordered this and really liked it! Three chicken skewers with this delicious thick, mildly sweet peanut sauce. It was nice to get a little taste of the Indonesian influence on Dutch culture. The skewers were prepared very nicely, the chicken was super juicy, lean, and tender. It came with a side salad, some pickled cabbage, and prawn chips which also were amazing. Very complete dish and really filling! Side of fries: we shared some fries with the table and I loved them. They were crispy on the outside and felt a little on the drier side on the inside which is my preference. Perfectly salted, not oily. Super solid fries! Side of grilled vegetables of the day: nice medley of broccoli, zucchini, and haricot verts. Super flavorful but a little oily for my taste. Overall still good though and didn't hurt my stomach :) Profiteroles: shared these for dessert and they were amazing. Three little dough pieces that were a little crispy with ice cream and a delicious chocolate sauce. Not like profiteroles I've tried before since the dough was a little different and didn't quite feel like a "puff" but more like a meringue. Still a great dessert to share and experience. Overall really liked this place! Thought the ambiance was very lowkey and cute, the service was very nice, and the food was solid. I also loved how this was in an area that seemed a little bit more calm than other parts of the city. Would come back again! read more

Oh boy. I planned this place for dinner on our first night because it received very high ratings and recommendations from multiple sources. It was also one of the closer places to our hotel but everything is relative and it was still quite a hike. We arrived in Amsterdam in the evening on a day that just so happens to be King's Day so it was an absolute shitshow everywhere. Despite being very annoying to GF and I, the debauchery that was going on all around us in every direction was more tolerable to us born in the last century than my square elderly parents who were absolutely appalled and disturbed. After what felt like the journey on Last of Us, we finally made it through the crowds of drunk people, dodging broken bottles and crushed cans all over the place to arrive at Rosereijn Eetcafe. The entire walk, the internal terror built as I could feel my mother's rage seeping out of every pore. Given the crowds I was very concerned there would be no tables available but the restaurant gods appreciated my plight and we were able to take one of the last tables in the back. It's on the smaller side and definitely...snug. We were seated essentially in the walkway from the kitchen so not ideal but I would've taken a seat on the toilet. The place was crowded and busy so it took a minute for our table to be cleaned and then for us to get menus. The staff did a pretty good job given the circumstances. I LOVE the vegetarian options and traditional dutch items. GF and I started with the vegan bitterballen which I was really excited to try. As this was my first time trying it, I had literally zero frame of reference whatsoever but they were very good with a very creamy and savory center. It took effort for me to not blow through them before GF got a chance to eat them but you know what they say: you snooze, you lose. My dad ordered a soup which he enjoyed. For our mains, GF and I shared the vegetarian meal of the day (extra brownie points for this) and fries. My mom ordered the chicken satay and my dad, the veggie burger. My mom thought the satay sauce was a little too sweet but otherwise, we all enjoyed our meal but nothing to lose your shit about. Came here as a recommendation from a local, it was around where our hotel was, and we were starving. Nice cozy spot serving lunch. The menu wasn't too extensive so it was nice to not be overwhelm with option. - especially when starving!! Food was ok. The pancakes were a bit undercook. I knew this because I've been eating Dutch pancakes since I landed in Amsterdam! (Haha) The eggs were good - plain and simple. Interesting and tasty choices for pub food. The shrimp croquettes were really nice. Both of our beef dinners (beef satay and beef teriaki) were tasty but very chewy though. The satay had very thick heavy dark brown peanut sauce all over it though. I don't think I would recommend the satay. The teriyaki was yummy with a light sauce and slightly chewy beef. read more

We were wandering Amsterdam and blew thru the tourist restaurants near Central station when we walked by this one. We peeked in and were welcomed by the bartender. We were the only people in there who were not local - seems to they knew everybody else. We got the last table and ordered dinner - Beef Burgoyne & some Dutch version of shepherds pie with smoked sausage on top. There food was top notch, great friendly service, cozy chill atmosphere. Can't believe this only has 3.5 stars on Yelp - where people give 5 stars to a Subway or Domino's. read more

Loved the Stampot, loved the pankcake- loved the service! Asked my delightful Italian server her name, then got so tired on my walk home I forgot her name. At any rate, this is a delightful place. We heard French, and Dutch and German and English- so everyone visits here. All the food looked amazing (we came in because people on the street had fabulous looking food.) Give it a try! Awesome traditional Dutch comfort food! The stamppot - mashed potatoes with chopped kale and bits of ham was served with meatballs and gravy and was everything you could hope for on a cold, rainy night. The fries (chips?) were crisp on the outside but still potato-y soft inside. My partner had beef stew which looked and smelled drool-worthy, but I didn't stop eating mine long enough to taste it. Bartender (owner I think) was so friendly and welcoming. I hate eating at touristy restaurants but it can be hard to avoid in Amsterdam. You can never go wrong having dinner here or just drinks. It's typically Amsterdam, with all kinds of people visiting and a no nonsense (Amsterdam) attitude. They serve a great Captain's dinner (order the middle size one, totally big enough). Ideal to combine with seeing a movie at The Movies and actually better than the restaurant they have over there. read more

Eetcafe Rosereijn is a great place to have dinner or a lunch in Amsterdam. Tough it is near the train station, it has a cozy atmosphere. There were a few tourists when we had dinner but it still felt like a locals hang out spot. The decor is very brauncafe with lots of wood and paneling. Food was delicious and hosts very nice. I would recommend it to anyone out on a stroll through Jordaan neighborhood. read more
