I've been searching for a good primary care doctor since moving to Vero Beach over two years ago…read moreand, until now, had no luck. Finding Dr. Jennifer Gerard-Efferen has truly been a blessing! She is everything I've been looking for in a physician... thorough, attentive, and genuinely caring. She takes the time to listen, explain things clearly, and never makes you feel rushed. I finally feel like I have a doctor who truly cares about my health and well-being. So grateful to have found her and Sebastian Internal Medical Associates!

They are the quintessential self-centered providers who believe patients are there to serve them at their convenience. They literally give the few remaining independent primary care practices a bad name. They called me less than 3 weeks ahead of my scheduled surgery to cancel my mandatory pre-surgical screening (for surgery to be done by another specialist provider who is very hard to reschedule). Of course they don't care that patients schedule our lives around these appointments and procedures. When I said I couldn't come in immediately because I was traveling (preplanned around these appointments and surgery nonetheless), there was nothing they could do. Their providers were all going to be on vacation at the same time, which was during my preset appointment - with no sensible patient coverage model. Ineptitude and the proverbial shrug, equating to "sorry we can't help you mister" (it's actually Dr. but who cares). They caused a massive problem where none existed and then they feel it's your fault as the patient for not being flexible with their rescheduling. This behavior requires FL law and policy changes that require mandatory advance patient notice when cancellations occur for pre-surg screening and appropriate access to care and physician coverage models by practice so patients don't end up with the "we're on vacation, good luck " message. And I'm just the right person to help facilitate a rational change of these laws in FL. No nonsensical rebuttal by this practice offering counterpoints on their theory of the case or supposed willingness should be believed or accepted as they are NOT in it to help you - this is about what YOU as a patient can do for THEM. Profit and care-at-their-convenience is what you will get. Thank goodness they're just simple primary care (i.e., all they did for me is read basic test results which I can read myself), and not some critical care specialist or critical access provider! Avoid this grossly mismanaged practice and their inept policies at all cost, or you could find yourself as I did, having to solve the problem they created by yourself.

They forget to follow up with things like prescription refills and referrals for specialists all the time. The office policies are odd, and if you question them or insist that there is a problem, they become difficult and even passive-aggressive, to the point it can make a person lose their cool. I was spoken to very rudely, then the person had the nerve to tell me I was being "unprofessional" (as if they are my supervisor? I don't think so!)! I am finding a new doctor ASAP, and will actively advise everyone I can to avoid this practice.

We had fallen on hard times. Husband lost job and it has been difficult since then If it's about the money and not our well being this is Not the place to be cared for Do no harm was my understanding. The staff turn around was almost weekly. Makes me wonder who caused that problem. How can the ever changing staff know the importance of our needs. Now my husband and I are without maintenance meds until we can see a new Dr,Due to new Dr.schedule he's booked. They only allowed us 30 day supply of meds, I can't see new Dr mid October. Drs Schaffer's office won't even return calls. All over a balance of 200.00 . The billing department does not sent monthly statements. Just quarterly. Talking to her was abrasive even if you tried to make payment arrangements. I NEVER owed her money until my husband lost his job. Greed !!! Not health care.

Avast ye Mariners, steer clear of this place, if you need a DOT Physical(719K) and Drug…read moreScreen(719P)! I thought I would go here, instead of seeing a Doctor, elsewhere--bad move! Now as a Merchant mariner, for over 45 years, I've done this procedure, successfuly, ever since the USCG instituted it. Also, I was an registered EMT and am still a certificated Medical Officer, aboard ships. So I actually perform these type of exams. myself. aboard ships. Thus I was appalled, as I watched them, firstly screw up the DOT papers I gave them, and then proceed to fumble the Chain-of-Custody procedure. Well, sure enough, the Medical Officer called me and advised that there were "irregularitys", in the received samples, meaning the test was rejected. So now I am under suspicion, for their incompetency. If that was not enough, when I submitted the Physical exam papers, again, I was informed by the USCG, that there were "irregularitys" there, too. So now I can't get a USCG Medical Certificate, which is required to sail--I'm out of work, because of their "irregularities". Also, they charged me almost double what I would have payed, had I just gone to Concentra. Well, so much for going back to work!
