I recently visited for the first time and was absolutely pleased. The service was great and the food was even better. The decor was very basic, possibly because the space is also used for banquets. However, the lighting and music were perfect for a nice, quiet, romantic evening. My husband and I ordered cocktails, negroni, and passion mojoto. The negroni was made very well, and the mojito was delicious. The only thing I would like different is that the passion fruit was strained to eliminate the seeds. For appetizers, we had steak tartare and potatoe pancakes. The pancakes were nice, thin crispy, served with sour cream, and so delicious! The tartare was very good. We were also served complimentary bread and french onion dip, which was fantastic! Main courses included lamb shank and beef medalions. For both meals, the meat was beautifully flavored and tender like butter. The medallions were served with tomatoes, asparagus, carrot puree, and topped with a most delicious bleu cheese sauce. For dessert, we enjoyed a very creamy creme brulee. The custard was very light and tasteful! It was topped with a rose cut strawberry. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised! On the onset, the restaurant is so unassuming. There are very few windows in the space, so the exterior is conspicuous, and the interior is small. But, they have great service and excellent tasting cuisine! I would definitely revisit.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!! Pretty positive it's related to Hannah's bakery but I could be wrong. The ambiance, food, drink, service was amazing! So much attention to detail was put into this establishment, we will return. Our mojitos were delicious, pierogi so good! Calamari was perfectly crisp and the chicken special *chef kiss* Do not walk, run here and you're welcome!

I only leave reviews when places leave me in awe! The steak tartar was flavorful, complex and melts in your mouth. Only bad things about it was I had to request more bread to continue devouring this delish plate. My husband had the Hungarian potatoe pancake, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The dish brought back memories of his childhood, visiting his Hungarian family. The decor was so stylish and modern. It is a vibe! The waitress was kind and attentive. Service was up to par. This place is what people crave for on breezy summer evening.

Excellent dinner with husband! We tried this place with husband recently. The place was had relatively few guests when we came in, so there was no wait. It has a cute and elegant ambience, with soft lighting and decor. I ordered the pork schnitzel which was delicious and a very ample portion. Very fresh! Came with mashed potatoes and salad. Husband got the goulash with the potato pancake, which was also excellent - the meat was tasty and tender, and the potato pancake was very tasty as well. We received complimentary bread with a spread that was really savory and unique. Service was kind and attentive. We wanted to try the creme brûlée, however they were out of it and they gave us a Tiramisu out of courtesy which was very much appreciated and delicious! Would definitely recommend this place for a meal - we will be back to try other stuff!

Ambiance was such a vibe. I would love to do a shower here one day. The service was great. Two people working, one at the bar and one server. They both greeted us. Pierogis were so tasty, no left ov

I really wanted to like this place. It's a little off the beaten track more like in an industrial area, but not too far off a main road. It had some decent reviews and met a friend there. Very cute interior and it wasn't crowded, just one other group sitting at a table. The waiter brought a water pitcher that has blueberries and mint leaves in it. We thought it was a nice touch and was looking forward to the refreshing water. But when I actually tasted the water, it tasted like they keep refilling water over the same blueberries and mint, so it had kind of old taste. My friend and I were catching up so we were not in a rush to order and the waiter did check in on us, but when we did order, we requested two Greek salads with salmon as we were having it as an entrée and specifically said that. Over half an hour later, the waiter brought one Greek salad with the salmon, not our full order. At that point after waiting so long we decided just to split the one salad. The Greek salad part was pretty good but the salmon was so over cooked. so dry; it was barely edible. So overall disappointed not sure what happened with why the food took so long, the salmon over cooked.

It was time to try. We expected a bit of a hole in the wall and that's not what we found - we found a very nicely decorated and maintained restaurant with a lot of dark wood overtones - we were seated immediately and given an extensive menu. I ordered a Polish beer, and we ordered a Polish plate - kind of a combination sampler plate if you will - and a ground pork cutlet dinner. Now before we could say anything? Some bread showed up with a lovely but lightly flavored hummus type spread- we enjoyed it because it also came with a nice big half sized pickle. When the Polish plate came? OMG we had sauerkraut - we had sausage - we had some pierogies, and when the pork cutlet came out? It literally covered the entire plate and was resting on a bed of freshly mashed potatoes. We shared the Polish plate and we shared the extremely large pork cutlet. Now to be fair? We loved the Polish plate immensely - while the cutlet was nicely breaded, and the mashed potatoes were great? I'm not certain I could say that about the pork cutlet. There was nothing wrong with it. I think the flavor was fine, but it was not something that I would order again. It just wasn't my taste that's all. So would we come again? Yes. Yes we would!

They were perfect and better than other places I've tried. I ordered the white borsch soup and the stuffed cabbage with mushroom sauce and dumplings. This was my first time trying both of these dishes. The white borsch soup was so savory and I really enjoyed the combination of sausage and hard boiled eggs with the broth. The stuffed cabbage was better than I expected, and that mushroom sauce was so good! My friend ordered it with the tomato sauce and that was very good as well. The dumplings were amazing paired with the sauce. The atmosphere is super cozy! I loved it. It feels like you're in a log cabin. Great ambiance. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. Overall, I would highly recommend this polish restaurant! It's been located in the same spot in Wood Dale as long as I can remember, and I'm glad I finally gave it a try. It's also conveniently located right next door to Helen's Deli, a polish deli that sells polish sausages, breads, spreads, and other polish foods. Great experience!

The place itself is incredibly inviting, all warm wood, cozy corners, very Bavarian lodge meets Polish soul. It was busy and buzzing, and Polish was the main language at nearly every table... except ours, which was happily bilingual in Spanish. It felt authentic, lively, and full of life. The service was friendly, fun, and patient, guiding us through the menu with enthusiasm. We shared a feast: pelmeni, Highlander-style pork shank, kiszka, Real Man's Meatballs (Męskie Klopsiki), and other delicious goodness that made the table groan (in the best way). Every dish was hearty, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. It was also my birthday, and just when I thought the night couldn't get better, the staff surprised me with dessert and sang Happy Birthday in Polish. I loved it. Big smiles, full heart. The food was so good that I stayed behind afterward to order takeout for my husband, stuffed cabbage (gołąbki) and pierogi, because sharing joy is important... and leftovers are sacred. U Gazdy isn't just a meal, it's an experience. One that fills your belly, warms your spirit, and makes you want to come back hungry.
