We typically go to…read moreApple Hill but wanted to try a different place so we venture out to Snowy Peaks Christmas Tree Farm. We walk for at least an hour through the trees to find a barren land with poorly shaped trees in terrible condition. So we end up buying a pre-cut tree for double the price (which they import in from a different location). The tree is put on top of the car by seemingly teenagers and only a mile down the road, it falls off the car. So now I have to pull over just to secure the tree back on the car. Here we are, on December 21 and the tree has fully died, despite rushing it home and immediately putting it in water after cutting the trunk. This place seems to be run poorly and maybe even sets up a model for people to end up buying their more expensive, dying, pre-cut trees. They have surely made a Christmas memory for me I won't forget.

Get here early because there ends up being a line to find parking (which is sparse). Once you are parked you'll notice a stream that runs through the property with fish, a fire to keep yourself warm, a small room where they're selling ornaments and food, and a truck carrying people to and from. Before boarding the truck you're given a saw to cut down your own tree. You literally are taken up some hills in the back of an old truck. Holding on for the bumpy ride is expected but once you're out you can find the perfect tree waiting for you and your family. Once you've walked the distance to Mordor and selected your tree. You board a truck heading down the hills. I recommend getting an ornament or two and a snack from the concession stand. This trip can be somewhat physical, so folks unable to walk up hills should stay near the fire with some hot chocolate to stay warm.

The owner and all the staff are polite, cheerful, genuinely friendly and so very helpful. They have trucks to take you up to where the trees are and you get to pick one out and cut it yourself. It was such a fun experience for my almost 2 year old who loved the cars and running around in the woods. Obviously prices will be higher than just going to Home Depot for a free but it is so worth it for the fun outdoor experience and memories my family got to make. Might I suggest grabbing a cart as you start and completely optional, go inside and grab a small bag of free popcorn so you can take your time looking and not get hungry. Located in Auburn, Green Acres/ Eisley's has knowledgeable employee if you ever have any questions. I have personally taken a picture of a house plant I was gifted and they were able to help me with its care and it is taking off like crazy now. Key word I was given... patience! My last couple visits, I was looking for some tomato, jalapeno, onion, and zucchini plants for my garden (I love zucchini, but I specifically have a bloody mary/ salsa garden). Also, some herbs for my cute little herb garden. The prices here are hard to beat! I went outside for my starts, which were under $4! I also picked up some thyme, rosemary, oregano, dill, cilantro, and chives all at great prices! Don't stop there. This nursery is HUGE! I was also looking for flowers that will attract bees. My tip is to watch which ones one bees are going to. Of course, they absolutely love all the flowers here, but I get the ones I see the most bees on. Now pay attention! Here's another tip! The plants that are in full sun, you should plant in full sun. The ones in shade, those you should plant in a shady area. There are trees and bushes available of so many kinds that are also either in full sun or partial shade, full shade... so pick the one that well be right for the spot you are trying to fill at home. There are planters and pots of so many sizes and made up of different materials with so many patterns available. The indoor house plants are my favorite. Can you guys guess how many indoor plants I have at home since I am a plant lover? Just inside, I have 19 plants (and counting)... so yes I am a plant lover!! If you have any questions, anyone working here is happy to help. They do offer returns, but not on vegetable plants or 1 quart potted plants. You must have your receipt (you can look up their return policy online). This nursery will put the motivation back in your attitude with just one visit. For folks,…read morelike myself, that didn't know.... the Eisley family sold their business to the local Green Acres franchise in 2020. The Eisleys founded the shop in 1932. But even though the nursery is a Green Acre's now, the majority of plants are still grown in the on site nurseries. They have a tremendously large inventory of plants, shrubs, and trees. The inventory was healthy and plentiful. The pricing is competitive to the big box shops. The nursery is well staffed and even though not all staff are knowledgeable about plants, they will quickly get someone that is to assist you. They also sell pottery, gardening supplies, sprinkler and irrigation equipment, bagged soil, seeds, and garden art. Another thing to note is that unlike the other Green Acres, this shop doesn't sell BBQ grills and patio furniture. But they do offer complimentary fresh popped popcorn which the other Green Acres don't have. The popcorn has been an Eisley tradition since 1991.

The selection was great and they were expecting another shipment on 12/4. They had some really tall trees to choose from. We bought a 9-10 footer. They are very helpful and friendly. I would recommend them. The value is good for the trees. They also deliver within 3 miles for $45. That is expensive but worth it if you get a large tree and you have a small car.

So driving up and seeing how many they had was super promising! We walked in, were greeted by a few of the workers offering their help when we find some etching we liked, and we went a searching. Let me say, they had a LOT of good looking trees! So why the 2-star rating? Well, we were greatly disappointed to see that NONE of the trees were being kept in any water! We'd touch the branches and needles, and some seemed aite, but all we kept thinking was, will this tree last till the New Year? We're a house that keeps the Xmas decor up through the first week of Jan before taking it all down. So that would mean an entire month, if not slightly more, for us needing the tree to last. And with them not being kept in water, we wondered how 'dead' they might already be. I braved to ask a worker how long have they had those trees, and couldn't believe he said for "maybe a week or so". I then made the comment/question of "and you don't keep them in any water?" He shook his head no and honestly, that made up Hubs' mind right then & there. I honestly couldn't believe these trees had already not been in water for that amount of time. If you Google, fresh cut Christmas trees only last 6-8hrs without water before they can no longer drink water. And they need the water to last 4-5 weeks! So, although many, many people do purchase from this lot year after year, I'm not sure how long their trees are lasting. On the plus side, their prices were fantastic!! But we just couldn't bring ourselves to buy even with those prices while having the thought of buying a tree that possibly was already partially dead and wouldn't drink water again. If Sutton's would 'splurge' on buckets or SOMETHING to keep those amazing trees in water on the lot, I'd consider giving them our business. So here, you may be getting what you pay for.
