Tree from Hidden Canyon
Nicole L.

This place is massive. We've been coming to Apple Hill to get our christmas tree for the last five years, but this was our first trip to Hidden Canyon. The owners are extremely nice and explained to us how their property is laid out and where the different types of tree can be found. They also have a sign that has the prices for each of the types of trees ($45-60 up to 10'). We walked around this place for a couple hours to check it out and see all of the different types of trees. This place is definitely less crowded than some of the other places, so we were able to wander around with our dog without running into too many people. The terrain is pretty intense, so definitely not a good place for someone that has any type of mobility challenges. Unfortunately, it looked like a lot of their trees were pretty young, or pretty old, so they were either too big or too small for what we wanted. Fortunately, we were able to find a tree that ended up being one of my favorites. Once you find a tree, you simply yell "cutter" and someone will run up to help cut it down, and carry it for you (if you ask). They'll then net it for you, if you need it. We kept our tree for a month and it was still really healthy and only dropped a couple needles. It was great. This will definitely be one of go-to places as the quality for the price seems better than some of the other places we've frequented in the past.

Going to pick out a tree with his Papa T.

Tom and Shirley are the long time owners of this tree farm and they are truly the kindest people around. They have great prices for their trees ($45-60 for up to 10') depending on the variety and since they are South of Apple Hill, you can avoid the traffic. It's an old school tree farm where you yell "cutter" for someone to cut down your tree. The kids get so excited each year to yell in excitement. We highly recommend this tree farm, of which my husband has gone to since he was a small child.

We loved this location! Great prices, friendly service, good selection of trees, and a beautiful location to hunt for a live tree to cut down.

Great family run tree farm we come back every year!!! Plus we get firewood it's a win win!!

Area to go and find your perfect tree.

Best place to get a Christmas Tree. You get to hike/walk around the property and find the perfect tree. You can cut it down yourself or yell, "Cutter!" and one of the guys will cut it down for you. They wrap the tree too. They have twine to tie the tree down- but I would bring your own rope. This is not a place to try and sell you other stuff either-only a tree. We loved it.

No tax!

So glad we found this place! We didn't want to battle the Apple Hill traffic the day after Thanksgiving from Folsom, Ca. It wasn't too far off the freeway, but far enough down a windy road to get ya into nature. There was even a little snow on the ground! Hidden Canyon had four varieties of trees available. They had a branch of each variety hanging from a sign to help you identify the trees, along with instructions, and pricing. Then you go to either of the two sides with trees. One side was across a cute little wooden bridge over a creek, and up a nature made staircase. This could be a bit steep or slippery for older folks, or kiddos under 3, as it's covered with pine needles. Our two year old did fine with our help; and it made it more of an adventure for her. There were plenty of great trees to pick from. We knew we wanted a white fir, and there she was! You yell "cutter!" And a young man runs up with a saw. He even let hubby saw it down. The guy asks if you want help carrying it down even. They're aren't any carts. It takes about five mins to get back to the check out area carrying the tree. They have a guy there with a nifty tree netting machine and a box of twine if you didn't bring anything to tie your tree down, all free of charge! Then you get in line to pay. A bit of a slow process, as one lady is handwriting receipts. You pay by variety, not size. We had cash, and she didn't charge us tax. There wasn't any honey for sale, and nothing else for sale either. Maybe because it was the first day of the season? They did have a picnic area and a port-a-potty. We will return next year for sure. I'll be sure to bring a picnic lunch and some cocoa. The place is friendly, beautiful, safe, and affordable.

We went here today to pick up our Christmas tree early. It was the best experience from start to finish. The sign said closed, but the gate was open, so we stopped in to see if the sign was flipped by mistake. Nope, definitely closed! The owner was kind enough to to let us look around and purchase. It has over 400 acres filled with a variety of beautiful trees, all different shapes and sizes. We found a perfect size, fresh tree and cut it down. You do have to get in nature and there is a good amount of brush, but this added to the experience. We ended up chatting with the owner for quite some time about everything, trucks, life, etc. The tree farm has been his family, you could tell how much it meant to him. The tree we cut down was beautiful. We paid $64.50 and that included tax. Every year prior to this, we've gone to tree lots and have spent $50 for a regular-sized tree. A little bit more money is worth the great experience and the chance to support a local, family-owned business. We will be back next season. I wish we would've found this sooner.

A hidden gem! Lives up to its name, hidden in a canyon. The scenery is unbelievable, be prepared to hike up hills to find the perfect tree. We purchased a beautiful white fir and it didn't take us long at all to find. The owners are a really friendly couple. They told us a little history and takes pride in the trees he planted himself. He told us our tree was probably around 30 years old. It's one of the best tree farms we've been to, and the prices are cheaper than the other places! A must stop for tree shopping. We will definitely be back next year.

10/10. Great value for the price and everyone was very friendly. Pro-tip: expect it to be busy.

The staff are wonderful and the "cutters" do their best to make selecting and cutting the tree a magical experience. They start the tree cutting for you, with their own saws (you don't need to bring your own), so the tree regrows properly - but they each let us take turns. Not as easy as they make it look! So helpful at every step of the process - including free wrapping and tying it to the car. We found a beautiful 9' Turkish Nordman with blue hues on the bottom and it has barely dropped any needles after the initial shaking!!

I also recommend bringing cash to tip the cutters who cut your tree and bring it to the front for you. They also usually have a cash only line to pay for your tree which moves way faster than the credit card only line. Lastly, you should get a hot cocoa before you start looking so you have something warm to hold. It's a little pricey but the experience, service, and quality is what keeps us going back!
