Really wanted to like this place- unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We arrived around 5:15- they open at 5. Ordered the egg roll app- about 30 min later one egg roll appears. Guess I should have asked. At that time we ordered chicken skewers and sesame chicken n a crab cake to go. About a half hour later the skewers appeared which were dry and a bit rubbery. We were told the sesame chicken was ready but not the crab. About 15 min later, still No crab. The place still had more employees than patrons at this point. We did see one of the servers enjoying her meal that she got from the kitchen. After cancelling the crab order and asking for the check- I mentioned I was glad she was enjoying her meal. Her response was- " I ordered before you and I'm here till 2am". WOW!! Will not be back. Glad your employees worry more about themselves than their customers read more

OMG where to start!!! Definitely skip this one!!! The service was beyond horrible. We waited for 1.5 hours with my two young kids who were extremely hungry towards the end. Even after asking when we got no time estimate, we started to leave and my husband proceeded to pay for the kids appetizers/drinks we already had, but the owner guy got really pissed and started yelling. When we left, he made sure to come after us and slam the door at my husband who was explaining how it took 1.5 hours and to that he said half hour is nothing - but it took us ONE AND HALF HOUR but he got physical and slammed the door on us WITH OUR KIDS staring in disbelief!! I'm shaking to this point and trying to undo the scar it left on my kids!!! There are plenty of better options in Rincón where you'll actually be treated with respect. Don't waste your money or your night here. When I told the waitress I didn't like my main dish, she got rude and dismissive. But the worst part? She stood there talking badly about my family to the bartender, right in front of us! Avoid Roots in Rincón at all costs! We went to Roots for a Christmas Eve dinner, hoping for a pleasant family celebration, but it was anything but that. The ambiance, appetizers and drinks were decent, but the service? Absolutely appalling. When my wife politely mentioned that she didn't enjoy her main dish, saying the sauce was overpowering and the noodles drowned in it, the waitress became rude and condescending, dismissing her completely. Things went from bad to worse when, not only did my wife's dinner arrive after the rest of us had finished eating, but the waitress had the nerve to start badmouthing our family to the bartender... right in front of us! We came for a special evening, but left feeling disrespected, upset, and completely ignored. Save yourself the frustration and choose another place. We came as a group of 5 before it got busy on a Thursday and the service was so quick and attentive. We kept ordering drinks and food and waters, and our waiter was checking in on us super often. I'm surprised by the reviews about slow service. The food was good, although when we initially came we didn't realize it was Asian/ not going to be Puerto Rican cuisine). We ordered the goat cheese balls (delicious!), the tuna avocado wontons (group favorite), the shrimp lo mein (so so, but great shrimp) and mussels/clams (good). This place was interesting. We were the only people there. I had a mahi salad with goat cheese balls and beets. It was really good! Kids had to improvise (no kids menu) and weren't impressed. Hubby had filet and asparagus. It was supposed to come with chimichurri sauce I'm no chef, but I watch a lot of food network and I'm a self-proclaimed foodie and I'm 99% sure the sauce (thankfully on the side) was kimchee- though the server and chef affirmed it was (red) chimichurri... anyway, we'd probably go back again. I visited Roots during my recent trip to Rincon in search of vegetarian options for dinner. There was a bit of a wait upon arriving but with Covid it's expected. The restaurant was clean and measures were taken to make sure everyone is distant. The ambiance is great for dinner and drinks. It has a boho vibe and soft rock playing in the background. Menu had a nice selection of veggie options which were mostly Asian infusion. I wish they had more vegetarian options inspired by the island's cuisine. I ordered the stir fry veggies & rice but found it to be a little salty and pricey for white rice and a few veggies in sauce. Appetizer and drinks ordered were great but again pricier compared to other restaurants in Rincon. The night I went seemed to only have 1 person working the restaurant; she was waiting tables, making drinks at the bar and hosting at the door so the service was very slow that night. Couple things to note here: They had a special Coconut curry dish with "rainbow runner" fish, rice and veggies. Effing mind blowing. I actually snapped a photo of this one. See attached. Additionally, the drinks are bitchin. I usually just drink beer, but they had some kind of special going that made me opt for a cocktail that was not disappointing. Lastly, I'll state the obvious-- every girl they employ is a babe. I understand that such a fact bears little to no influence with many people, but it does with some- so why not mention it? Came all the way from ATL for nothing. I'm completely disappointed. Ive never had such horrible service in my life! We were a party of 4 that had reservation for 7pm. 9pm rolled around and our food had not been prepared. Which left us without food because the curfew was in effect. The cherry on top was when we overheard the cook say "tell them I'm leaving" which left us no choice but to get up and leave since no employee would give us any explanation. The worst experience ever. Don't ever come here!!!! As this is a new found restaurant in Rincon, we decided to support a local concept. We had many illusions and expectations as well as excitement. This being said, as we entered restaurant we got an unexpected, disappointed, and horrible service, quality, and overall amusement. Firstly, the waiter, he was dry, rough, and un professional service. The food which we thought it was bizarre arrived in less then 5 minutes. We ordered a burrata which me and my fellow friends that were with me have traveled and experienced many different flavors, textures, and amazing quality burratas. When the presentation and order was delivered, within less then 5 minutes the presentation looked like it would take 10 to 20 minutes. Immediately we got swamped by this disgusting, humiliated smell. As we cut though it it was not googy, creamy, or even soft, like a normal burrata. We each cut a piece and bite into it. It was the most disgusting burrata we have ever eaten because it was extremely expired. I got up and gave my input about the damage burrata since it was not edible, I came with a peaceful and opinion based imput. The owner came out and started screaming creating this horrible ambiance and extremely felt disintegrated, he proceeded to kick us out and never come back again . I do not and repeat do not recommend this place by any means there are so many beautiful places in Rincon to visit and this is not one. read more

Hmmm, feel like this is a solid 3.5. Food is not very authentic, so I wouldn't come here looking for that, but it is good! The highlight of our meal was the mahi mahi fried rice. It had a beautiful woody flavor. Maybe a tad dry, but I would totally eat that again and again. The pad thai tastes more like a stir fry or maybe even lo mein-y. It is tasty, but def not pad thai. Very saucy. (Disclaimer: I worked in an Asian neighborhood so my palate may be a little more discerning than others.) Goat cheese balls are good, especially with the honey, it's just hard to have more than one because of the richness so def share with the table. My husband is allergic to fish & because of that supposedly there is vegan options at roots so we decided to give it a try but OH little did we know that the waitresses and the cook weren't aware (even us telling them) they didn't seemed to care. Since we were staying in Rincon for the weekend we went again to give it a second try & the waitress took 23 minutes to I form us that they couldn't make the dish allergy free because the "chef" already mixed the peanut sauce with fish sauce!!!!!! My husband and I are in rincon as first timers. We were so excited to try roots, saw it yesterday while in town so based our day around dinner plans there. We got there a little after they opened about 5:30. One of the waitresses was washing the windows so we were not sure if they were open yet. My husband nicely asked " are you open"? And the waitress blankly looked at us and kind of shook her head in disgust as if we were annoying her trying to come and eat dinner. My husband and I were taken back by her response so we stood back and stepped to the side to let her finish what she was doing. At no point did she offer us to come in or anything while she continued to clean the doors, understandably as she wanted the doors clean. So we waited. We eventually walked in to an empty restaurant and she was standing at the bar watching us try to figure out if we just sit down or wait to be seated. When we asked if we should just sit, again annoyed she sarcastically shook her head at us and motioned to do whatever we want. In fear of our food being spit in because we were annoying her in some way, we left without ordering. She was an American and while we don't know for sure, she was probably a Boston Red Sox fan, based on her deep RBF While we didn't actually eat anything, I imagine the food was underwhelming at best! Beware here. The menu is all over the place, which was the first clue. "Caribbean Salad" came out with a piece of rubbery fish and missing all of the toppings.
