The service was on point. From the moment we got there we were greeted in a very friendly manner and served with a smile and everything was really great in that department. The food got to us at a great temperature but I would say it was average. I've eaten here in the past and was super delighted, which was why I wanted to bring my mom for a special early dinner. But she was also a bit disappointed with her meal. My mom found the octopus to be quite chewy and tough. So that was a huge fail since it was the main protein of the meal. The mofongo, however, was delicious. My tostones were crispy and well made. I really enjoyed those. The steak had a strange after taste that I didn't care for so I too was disappointed because I am a huge churrasco or skirt steak fan. But don't give up on this cute little gem. They normally have delightful dishes. Maybe it was an off day. We came to this spot because we saw a review from Desecheo across the street saying this place was better.. THEY WERE WRONG!! The service started off good, and they were really nice. It wasn't busy at all. Roughly, around 3 tables were taken. We ordered our food and I have to say all the food SUCKED!!! Even the Queso Frito was trash. My order was the worst, which was a Mofongo de Pollo. I've attached photos. I sent it back because the chicken was chewy, and the plantanos had hard crunchy parts in it that almost broke my tooth. After I sent that back, our server completely changed. She barely came back to the table, she had a bit of an attitude and after we paid she said "just to let you know tip is not included". This place is trash. Don't waste your money here. Go to Desecheo. read more

Went there again while visiting my mother. The server was new. I ordered the seafood Mofongo and he insisted that it came with a side. So I ordered something my mother would eat, because the Mofongo was enough for me. The bill came and I was charged for the side. I told the server, a different one because our server went on break, that I really didn't want the side and the previous server pushed it. I wasn't paying for it. The cashier came over and insisted that I had to pay for it because I consumed it and refused to deduct the charge. I told her I wasn't paying for the meal until she deducted it, still she refused. It wasn't until after I walked out without paying did I get their attention. The charge was removed and I paid the bill. I will never set foot in that restaurant again. It's too bad because the food was delicious. BTW now I know why the place is always empty. read more

we ended up eating at this restaurant twice on a five day trip. The first night we stopped on the way from the airport and had an amazing meal. The grouper soup was delicious. They had a hummus, avocado appetizer with fresh bread that was perfect and we each got a whole fish Bronzino. We went back after going to hike to survival beach and enjoyed another good meal. my husband had a burger and I had Mofongo both were decent and the atmosphere is nice. For me, when i look for reviews I tend to look for those that touch on the flavor of the food compared to prices. The flavor on every dish we had was out of this world amazing! The price even better. It was reasonable price for the amount of food ( which was trust me a lot compared to other places ). So not only was the flavors delicious, the amount of food was on point, and the prices were perfect. My family and I would definitely come here again. Background: we are from Miami but my family were born in Puerto Rico so we know Puerto Rican Cuisine and trust me this place ( although boujee ) presents those flavors to you in such a comforting way. If i could i wouldn't give them any star, they served a me a burnt filete minon. All you can taste was burnt, on the inside was well over done I ordered it medium. My husband's stake was also well done but his wasn't burnt. We had an excellent experience here about a year ago and so decided to go back. Not just go back for dinner but specifically for one of their dishes. Their nacho dish was a very welcome surprise which mandated a return hands down. To our surprise, the dish was changed for cheap. They have thrown such awesome and exquisite dish off the kitchen and made it simply something you can do at home. You see, rather than using chips from a bag, they used their own garlic home made chips and they were killers. They had something nobody else had. Now, it is only a simple and very expensive dish with nachos. Their salmon has come down in size and increase in price and so have their drinks. Expensive and really tiny. I felt like a cash cow... Try the Rissoto; it's their only surviving dish we can recommend. We will think thrice before going back. read more

Sitting at the restaurant as I write this review. I've just enjoyed the most delicious braised beef tortellini.... the service has been great, the white wine cold, and the food delicious. The one this I would change is olive oil or real butter with the bread as opposed to butter spread. Altogether, great dinner! read more

A pleasant surprise. In the middle of my road trip driving on coastal roads and towns from La Paguera through Cabo Rojo, Mayagüez, Aguada, Rincón and Aguadilla, I left Crash Boat Beach after considering the local beach fare but decided to pass on it (there is a limit to how many pinchos and tostones one can have in a single week....). Heading east towards Isabela I was looking for something different. Since I was driving I could not check reviews so I went with what appealed my eye and grunting stomach. The Zazones sign was the first clue - "Zazones - Creole Cuisine" - A ballsy eye catcher in an area where the local language rules. Desecheo was also visible but on the wrong side of the road (if you've never driven in PR roads, avoid the left turns until you drive like the locals...). Turns out I got real lucky. Located on the corner of an unassuming mini strip mall, the entry gives you a hint, this is not your run of the mill PR food restaurant. My timing was also good, just after the usual lunch hour (2pm-ish). A modern interior look, dimmed lighting and subdued environment. After enduring the never ending beat of the local reggeaton blasting at Crash Boat Beach, this was a perfect setting for a relaxed lunch. I sit near the bar in the back on tall tables meant for single patrons or intimate couples. A local cold Medalla and a look at a very interesting menu. Immediately you know your are either going to love it or hate it. A mix of food groupings you recognize but the combinations are different. Artsy names, with very upscale, yet simple presentations. I go with the flow. My server, Kristie suggest the soup of the day to start - a potato with bits of churrasco - yeah meat and potatoes but in a soup! I've been eating nothing but fried fish and seafood the previous day so I go for it. Warm bread rolls sprinkled with a tasty seasoning and butter are added. It did not disappoint. A great way to start. The main dish was the "Churrasco Basket". I had to see what they did with it - A yucca based container for sautéed peppers, onions and churrasco strips served inside the yucca basket - crispy on the outside, mashed yucca on the inside. Sure, some will call this a stuffed yucca mofongo, but why do that? This was an excellent choice. A perfect match for my appetite that day. I usually skip dessert during lunch but I still had a couple of hours of back roads driving before heading east towards my mother's house in Bayamón. After experiencing the previous two courses I was curious to see how they handled their desserts. Kristie went through their choices. A coconut and lemon shavings creme brûlée was epic! A shot of black espresso to avoid the food coma while driving to finish. What a fantastic lunch. Will do it again any day, anytime. Too bad I have to get on a plane for this. If you are hanging around any of the nearby beach towns on the northwest of the Island, look for this place. Afterwards, I called friends in the area and they talked great about the place too so hopefully it was not a fluke. A note on price expectations - I've traveled a lot worldwide. This is a good restaurant worth every penny you spend there. I had lunch in my beach short, sandals and a t-shirt so it is not a "fine dining" place where you need to dress up, but the food and service are good enough to earn their asking price. I'll start off with the positives... The location is very convenient, right off of 107, on the road to Aguadilla airport. Ambience was nice, modern decor. Service was good. (caveat: we were 1 of 2 tables being served; it was early afternoon). Food: Hubby had a chicken Caesar salad which enjoyed very much. I had the churrasco (Med) with salad and tostones; the steak was very salty, the tostones were too thick & the salad was not much of a salad. Dessert was on another level, the coconut crime brûlée was AMAZING. We would definitely return but I think I would ask the server to ask the chef to hold back on the salt. read more

We ate Zazones about half a dozen times. The food and the service were consistently good. As one other reviewer wrote, its trendy. It has a modern decor. On a couple of visits we ordered the land crab fricase appetizer, it was delicious. I ordered the broiled octopus on at least two visits there. The octopus was tender and nicely dressed. The fried red snapper also stood out. They offer a few options for sides. I ordered the potato and island root vegetable (vianda) mash. Instead of gravy the mash is doused with an onion, olive and perhaps garlic vinaigrette that was outstanding. The mofongo and rice dishes were done very well. So were the meat dishes. We are planning to return to Aguadilla toward the end of the year. We will return to Zazones. I hope they stay the course. read more

We liked it so much that we went three times for dinner in 2 weeks. The food presentation is perfect and the quality outstanding. We felt safe dining here. The tables are arrange so we can be separated from others, they measured our temperature and sprayed our hands at the entrance. The service is great and people super friendly. Trendy, lounge type of decor and vibe with a restaurant type set up. As they say everyone is on island time and it's true here too...but prices are reasonable for quality of good and drink, wine bottle prices are excellent compared to the average place. All three dishes shared the same qualities: they were well prepared, attractively plated, and very tasty; however, all three were also quite noticeably over-salted.
