We were doing some renovations and asked them to come clean it up (remove the old flowers) and cut one of the trucks that had grown out. We came home to find that our 30 ft tree had been completely cut down. I broke down in tears. Benny, the owner of the company hung up the phone on me and my husband several times when we confronted him. We sent him video footage of the day he came by to asses the project where we tell him specifically to only cut on of the trucks and clean up the dead flowers. He has now blocked both of our phones. It is one of the most unprofessional companies we have ever come across. This was an irreplaceable tree with so much meaning to me. I am so sad. Strongly discourage anyone from using them.

May 2007: We meet with Phil at our house, to discuss redoing our yard. We meet for 3 hours. Nice…read moreenough guy; he spends the majority of the time regaling us with stories about difficult clients he's dealt with in the past and how he tries to avoid such clients now. We tell him the list of things we'd like to do with our yard and ask him to tell us how he intends to get us there. He takes no notes and no measurements. He leaves, we await his estimate. End May 2007: Estimate: 1 page. 10 line items, each with a price, with no description whatsoever. Example: "Water feature: $15,000." The "Estimate" fails to include half the things we asked him to price. June 2007: I ask for more information. It is suggested we meet again. Which we do. For another 3 hours. This time he jots a couple of notes. Still no tape measure to be seen. He talks a lot about how he sees a "vision" for what our backyard screams out for. Or whatever. We ask if this "vision" could be placed in some sort of more permanent form, such as squid ink on parchment or cave drawing, perhaps. He cautions that he doesn't do that "yet" because he's paranoid about people stealing his ideas and then taking them to get other bids. He verbally gives me prices for the things he ignored in his initial estimate, He later ignores and jacks up these prices. August 2007: I email a detailed list of those things we want and those things we don't want. I ask about pricing of materials, about types of materials, about guarantees (if any), and about timing and duration of the work. I also say thanks but no thanks to the $15,000 "Water Feature," but I suggest an in-ground spa. He answers none of these questions but instead suggests we meet again. Ugh. I'd really like to get the ball rolling here, but ok. Later August 2007: We meet a third time. This time he measures, he realizes that a lot of his initial "guesstimates" regarding dimensions were vastly overstated. This is good news, as it will reduce the cost. He takes notes. He seems genuinely engaged, and we start to get some semblance of what he might possibly have in mind for our "space." He will get back to us with a revised estimate. Late August 2007: He still hasn't answered any of my questions about timing, guarantees, etc. He does send an estimate. It's the same estimate as before, except with more line items, including this gem: "In-ground spa: $34,000." The overall work will cost more than $100,000, not including the electrical work (they apparently don't do electrical, despite their express representation when I first contacted them: "The work you are interested is [sic] definitely right up are [sic] alley. We do this type of work all the time." OK, that's way high, and I have absolutely no idea what they're planning on doing, specifically. So we go back and forth, and they give some explanations for why it's so pricey. Apparently, they "envisioned" that I would have a 110 sf spa and that I would have some very high-end gates and other stuff that I didn't ask for. OK, fine, this needs to be scaled back. So I write: "I appreciate that Phil wants to use the very best materials and do the most incredible job imaginable, but that's simply out of our price range. This is kind of the problem with us not really having a clear idea of what is envisioned. A 14 x 8 spa sounds lovely, but enormous and extraordinarily expensive. It's also something we never really discussed doing. I understand wanting to maximize the water features, and I also appreciate that this is where a lot of your profit margin is. Most of the items in the proposal seem extremely expensive, and it seems to me that these prices can be reduced quite a bit, starting with bidding materials that are not necessarily the very very tip top of the line. . . . If you can, I would very much appreciate a more reasonable estimate for all the items in his proposal, taking into account what needs to be done, what we'd like to do, and our budget. Perhaps a more detailed bid, breaking up material cost, labor cost, overhead and profit, would be in order at this point. "Obviously, you need to make a profit and I do not expect you to ever think otherwise. Conversely, I need to keep costs reasonable and I wouldn't think you'd expect me to ok a $100,000 project without having any real idea of what we're talking about. I think we really need to get down to brass tacks here, and come up with a real bid so we know what we're paying for and what we're getting." Response: "After going over everything with Phil, It doesn't seem as though you are very comfortable with us and the service we are trying to offer you. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to bid on the proposed work for your home. At this time we feel you are better off finding another landscape contractor that will be better able to suit you needs." Apparently, I'm one of those "difficult clients."
