I waited until the last minute to decide to get my hair done for an upcoming wedding. I tried doing it myself and I wasn't getting the results I wanted. ( it was extremely hot and humid that day ) . I've driven by Root One Hair Salon and Spa and thought it couldn't hurt to stop in and ask if there was anything they could do for me . ( I didn't have an appointment ) I walked in and was greeted with a big Hello , can we help you ? They did exactly that !!! Kim and Faith were eating their lunch. Kim had a short break right after her lunch and low and behold, she transformed my frizzy , crazy hair into a stylish and long holding look . I can't thank Kim enough ! ***UPDATE*** I filed a complaint through the BBB. The owner of the salon called me an outright liar and said that I was trying to scam her out of money, when all I wanted was an apology. I also forgot to mention that while I was there they had a horrible ant infestation that they were trying to quietly cover up by spraying Raid everywhere. I've worked in customer service based industries and this "salon" is by far the worst example of a customer service based business I have ever seen. Also, IGNORE their 100% satisfaction guarantee as they will not honor it, not even with an apology. WORST HAIRCUT EVER! I am so upset that I decided to get my hair trimmed here rather than driving the 3 hours to my old stylist. I went in asking just for a trim - I grow my hair out for the soul purpose of donating it to 'Locks of Love'. The stylist did not listen to anything I asked. My hair is uneven, the left side is 2 inches longer than the right and if I brush my hair out the ends are all uneven. I specifically said I did not want layers added to my hair and she again did not listen. The top portion of my hair is literally 5 inches shorter than the bottom portion of my hair. I work as a model/actor in addition to being a Marketing Exec - I had to cancel an audition I had scheduled this week because of this horrible haircut. The best advice I have for people interested in this salon is don't go!! In addition the entire experience cost me $75 - which is roughly $35 more than I ever spent of my old stylist. read more

I went in to Root One today. I really needed a good cut after a few botched hair cuts. I had Rose do my hair...BEST HAIR CUT I've had in 10 years. As a former hair stylist it's been hard to get someone to give me long layers with out taking too much volume out. Rose was great! To tell you about my full experience here could take hours. 5, to be exact. Because that's how long I was here. I needed highlights done and decided to give them another try. I wasn't there 10 minutes and knew I would hate it. The owner did my hair. I'm not sure if it's her, or her sense of humor. But something is offffff with her. I went in with dark brown/ black color. I wanted blonde and red highlights. She tried for over 20 minutes to talk me out of it. She tried to convince me to do an ombré, cut all my length off, lighten it and return, do a partial foil. Anything BUT what I wanted. I admit, my base color was splotchy. But anything can be fixed. Some of the gems out of her mouth were- when will you sit and listen to your hairdresser? If your husband doesn't like it, tell him to be quiet, I'm the professional. Regarding my son- ohhhh he's smarter than he looks. So you figured you would come to this salon and make me nuts? She was sarcastic through the whole thing I had to leave and get my son near the end. I should hve paid and not returned. I'm actually pissed that i didn't. My hair did what I said it would. And she didbt think it would. Then she threw a toner and more dye over it and left it own 24 minutes (I timed it) past the buzzer time. Because she took another client. And that means that it darkened the highlights that WERE blonde. All and all, for someone who was looking for a good highlight job, it's an ok job. But she didn't listen to me. And it's not what I wanted. At all. I gave up, paid and left. I had just been there too long. Total- $225!!!!!!' I had a coupon and they didn't even credit me for that. Also- they were VERY rude to a woman who was calling to reschedule her daughter. Saying she would have to leave with a wet head. And it's a holiday (presidents day) and she wants to leave on time. And is she an adult? She can't call on her own? I truthfully want every penny back. Every one. I couldn't sit there for another 5 minutes. But from what I read, I'll never get it. Ever since I moved to Massachusetts from Maryland I did not know where to go to get my hair done. I have coarse hair and its hard to manage. My sister-in-law recommended Root One Hair Salon Spa and I have been going there for quite a long time. One thing for sure is that I would never go anywhere else. The staff is friendly, professional, and courteous. If I want to come in on short notice they try to accommodate me. I usually go to Judy but when she is not there I would ask for either Marianne or Faith. Both are excellent and wouldn't have any problems recommending them to other people. If I could give them a negative rating I would. My fiancé went here with me. They were cutting his hair. He explained to them very therially what he wanted. They took the first cut and messed it up. So he had to get the rest of his hair cut that way. He left before they were done it was that bad. He ask for a half inch off and they took three inches off in the back as soon as they cut without checking. It was too late. Don't go here they don't listen. The only good thing is he didn't have to pay the 23 dollars for a trim. He is so fucking pissed it will take 4-6 months to grow back. He said if they were guys he would have mad them cry. read more

I am a very happy client of Root One Hair Salon. I have my hair cut and styled by Faith, trust me she is fantastic! My hair is very very thick and bone straight with many cowlicks, however Faith always listens and offers great suggestions. Also my daughter and I take care of our waxing needs here as well. I scheduled an appointment at Root One after a friend's daughter got a great haircut there. I was definitely not disappointed! I had a great experience with Christina-I have a hard time visualizing what my hair will/will not do and what will work with my face. I was able to explain what I wanted out of a haircut and then Christina took it the rest of the way. I definitely recommend letting her use her imagination! I'm not a nervous person when it comes to my haircuts, even when seeing a new stylist, but Christina was very conscientious when cutting and made sure I was okay with what she was doing. Worst haircut ever, I am not picky but it was absolutely amazing how horrible my hair looked after leaving, it was unevenly cut and looked unbelievably ridiculous I would never recommend anyone going here. To top it off it was the ownere who cut my hair, two thumbs down, don't go here read more

I'm really surprised to see any negativity when it comes to this place!! It almost seems like the people complaining flit from salon to salon looking for things to complain about. If you walk in a Flaming Mess, one visit isn't gonna fix THAT! Get a mirror and a clue! I've been going here for 7 years... LOVE THEM! all of them! My 1st visit was the beginning of getting my hair HEALTHY again! I'd been so many places and had bad experiences, left other places in tears... but Root One changed that! They are funny, knowledgeable, professional, very friendly.. the atmosphere is always welcoming, relaxed and I laugh every time I go! and if they don't seem insanely busy (as indicated in another odd review below) it's because I've noticed that they never overbook themselves to rush through clients! I get what I need, how I need it, in the time I need and I get suggestions, my choice to take them or not.. these ladies are fantastic! 7 years ago, my hair was dry, thin and SAD! Today, people randomly compliment me on my hair ALL THE TIME and ask me where I go! even when I've gone longer than I should between 'cuts' the compliments keep coming... a sure sign" of a PERFECT CUT... so with a BIG smile, I always tell them Root One, Saugus...
