Drove down from GR with my daughter and nephew to check out the Air Zoo and stopped at the Root Beer Stand for lunch. The kids thought it was so cool and we enjoyed our lunch! The staff was so helpful since it was our first time and they repeatedly checked on us, even though you pay right after your food is delivered. They ended up pouring the kids drinks into to-go cups, which was helpful. The dogs were delicious but my only complaint was that I wish it was shredded cheese instead of liquid. I loved the soft buns and the homemade root beer was ice cold and delicious. I heard the cook ask if I wanted to try the homemade chili before they made my 3 hot dogs but I knew I'd like it. The prices are so reasonable and fair as well. The menu is very small but that's why they're efficient. They are cash only! We will definitely be back, just wish it was closer! read more

Love this cute spot. You order in your car and they bring a tray and real plates meals to the window. I take my mom here and we play oldies. I like getting the hot dog and ice cream float. The menu is small and there are no hamburgers. The server told me that it's not their photo of their menu floating around. So it's simple food for a simple and fun night out. read more

Even during busy times I can get my order and be back on the road in under 10 minutes for under $10, because of the convenience I am rating it higher. I honestly don't understand the reviews for this place. The servers were really nice and helpful but the food was not good at all. You'll get a better hot dog at the Costco food court. The hot dogs themselves are cheap and small. The toppings are .... there. The root beer floats... clearly ice cream scooped into cups and left in a freezer long enough for them to be freezer burned. Us older folk have to make sacrifices. The kids who wait on you at your car are friendly and fast. I tip them 25-40% just based on their superlative effort and great attitudes as well as their ability to show up for work when it's 40 degrees outside. This place puts A&W to shame. It's hard for me not to like any place that you pull into and are then served at your car. Yeah, I'm nostalgic. Hot dogs probably don't top my fine food list but when you have one here (along with a root beer float) the ceremony in and of itself lends to an enjoyable experience. These hot dogs are definitely middle of the road but I didn't come planning on USDA choice. It's kind of like when you go camping and just about any kind of food tastes great. By the way, in Kalamazoo, it's pronounced "Hat Dag". And you can have a "pap" with that if you so desire. The people here are always friendly and the food comes out quickly. By the way, give the nice young college bound lady a tip after she runs out your food. This might be her first summer job and you'll want her to remember you favorably when someday she's a surgeon and operates on you. Their hotdogs are so small they get swallowed up by the bun, and the chili taste like they opened up a can of hormel chili (not home made!!) and their rootbeer is VERY FLAT!! Taste nothing like I remember as a kid! Their popcorn taste like it had been sitting there all day very stale not even crunchy very rubbery! People claim it's the place to go because of the "right up to the car service" Well if thats the case there is another place that has much bettter food, a larger selection and brought "right to your car" while on roller skates!!!
