This…read morerestaurant and the float restaurant also located inside of the black rock resort were the only two places that were open that evening in what seemed like the entire city of Ucluelet. Glorious views of the stormy ocean before the night falls. The restaurant was serving the late night food menu which was good enough for us because we just wanted some tasty, fresh seafood. We got Negroni's, clams, cod cakes, seafood soup, and deep fried Mac and cheese. It was a little pricey so it was refreshing for the waitress to advise us to hold off on ordering an additional dish to what we had already ordered and she was 100% right. (If there was one other person then I'd be also recommending you to try the tuna dish.) As it was we took home the fried mac & cheese and heated it up in our kitchen suite for breakfast the next morning. It was still crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside!

We dined at the restaurant 3 times during our 3-night stay at the resort - dinner for our first evening and breakfast on the following 2 days - and we enjoyed every visit. Dinner at the restaurant for my partner's birthday was an excellent choice. We loved our courses from starters all the way through desserts and coffee. Starters were tuna nicoise and asparagus soup with seared scallop. Tuna nicoise is a genius idea with all the best elements of a salade nicoise without the unnecessary greens. The soft boiled quail egg was an excellent touch. The succulent scallop was paired nicely with the rich base on the soup. For main courses, I had seared scallops (again) & calamari with angel hair pasta and my partner had herb crusted halibut. My scallops were again wonderfully succulent, calamari was light and crispy, and the side pasta was very tasty but not heavy at all. We had a wonderful meal by the window overlooking the ocean We were hoping to see a pod of orcas swimming by but we were not as lucky as the diners the week before. Despite the absence of marine mammal visits, the main courses are well worth the $30 / plate average.

The entire place felt elevated but cozy - our table was upstairs under beautiful wooden beams and big windows overlooking the town. The vibe was lively but not too loud on a Tuesday evening. Service started out wonderfully and we regularly received fresh table settings between courses, however we had a switch in waitstaff later in the meal and it was incredibly slow at the end. No big deal since we weren't in a rush but something to note that it could be hit or miss. The food, on the other hand, was 100% on point. We ordered the potato crusted oyster appetizer and I was blown away - innovative and delicious. For my main, I got the halibut in a curry sauce that was just perfection. My friends tried the sea board, seaweed salad, and scallop gratin, and loved all of it. This meal was a highlight of our vacation.

We didn't expect a place such as this on the highway in between towns to be open at 11 AM on New Years Day, but there it was beckoning our hungry selves. Boy are we happy we stopped! The place is small and attached to a general store which looked to be well stocked. The restaurant was busy but the tables turned quick and we sat and were very promptly served by a smiling young man who took our tea orders and dropped water for us as well. We were given a little appetizer of blueberries, dragon fruit and pineapple along with a delicious obviously home made nut loaf which was delicious! Our orders were taken and the food delivered very quickly and piping hot. The portions were generous and well prepared. We would certainly stop by this little diamond in the rough if we find ourselves on the old Island Highway again. Thanks for a great meal!
