Chicken Caesar wrap
Cin C.

We popped in for a quick snack and ordered the crispy chook caesar wrap with garden greens on the side. Fresh and filling enough to tie us over until the next stop. They did have fresh orange juice which was nice. I liked the friendly family atmosphere of the place, as many families came in and recognized each other and would end up sitting together or chatting as they waited for food. Obviously popular with the locals! They have switched to cafeteria style ordering so go up to the bar when you are given a table and are ready to order.

Clam chowder

Lunch at boomerangs was a miss for me. The club sandwich had multiple issues. The turkey is dry. The yellow/orange cheese that is popular here in Canada has a processed chemical flavor. Much of the bacon was undercooked. The chowder was supposed to be creamy but tasted of something acidic. There were no clams I could find. The wrap my wife had was fine.

Fish and chips

Came to Port Alberni on our way to Nanaimo and wanted fish and chips. But places were mostly closed in town by this point except for this cafe. And we were surprised! This is a little neighborhood gem in port Alberni. Their signs are not very obvious so it's a bit difficult to find - I feel If they had a bigger sign more ppl would also notice this resto more! The waitress who served us was very friendly and down to earth. We asked a lot of questions to help us decide what to eat and we settled on two orders of fish and chips and 3 orders of kangaroo burger. It's an Australian restaurant so I was surprised to see such luxury items available (like camel and kangeroo). I also had the option to do half sweet potato fries and half bowl of chowder. We were not disappointed! The food portions are nice and generous. The fish was good but the oil was older so it came out quite dark so that was the only thing. But the fish is fresh, flaky, and the kangerroo burger was really good! The chowder was creamy and packed with flavour. It's my second time eating kangeroo meat and honestly it taste like a leaner version of a beef burger. Yum! We also tried some local beer which was pretty good from Vancouver island. Now next time if we ever go through this part of town again will come back for some more! (They ran out of a few things - the lobster Mac and cheese and some other seafood dishes)

BBQ CAMEL BURGER
Winona C.

BBQ CAMEL BURGER honestly tried this just for the gram but I was even more surprised at how good it actually was! The meat itself was very well seasoned and wasn't as dry as I thought it was gonna be. The last time I was here I had there Kangaroo burger and wasn't the biggest fan but their Camel burger is pretty good .. still shook I ate a camel... --BBQ Camel Burger : handmade 1/3 lb Chipotle Forestberry Camel, mayo, bbq sauce, tomato, lettuce and red onion--

Vegemite sample.

This is a good place to have a hearty meal. The restaurant has hints of Australian themes, not sure if it is representive of their true culture as I've never been. But you quickly get the point. The place was packed at 11:30am on a Tuesday. I stopped here with my Airbnb host and her couch surfing guest. After a morning of watching bears catch salmon we were hungry. I ordered the veggie burger with waffle fries and tried Marmite for my first time. I have to say the Marmite was a very salty and rich flavour. I liked it. The burger and fries were excellent. Nothing I haven't had before. But it hit the spot. It's a great place to grab food and spend some time with good company.

The Low Cal $7.95 - poached egg, sourdough toast, fruit bowl and cottage cheese
Kate M.

Stopped into Boomerangs Cafe for breakfast on the way to the ferry for a nice sit down brunch. Great menu options and prices are right. I wanted a lighter meal so went for the "low cal" breakfast which was perfect - one poached egg, sourdough toast, cottage cheese and a fruit bowl. Oftentimes you leave brunch feeling too full and gross, but this wasn't the case here! The coffee was okay but nothing to write home about. Overall, good experience and would pop in again if I find myself on the island!

Is there a restaurant where you will go back and back? Is it Boomerang's Cafe? Not for us since we were just passing by Port Alberni. But this place serves up some unique dishes that's quite down low and out there. We ordered the kangaroo burger and seafood Mac and cheese. Both were delicious! Kangaroo meat tastes quite similar to beef just slightly gamey and the Mac and cheese is a mix of several cheeses which is creamy and flavourful. Give it a try if you're ever on the Island!

Italian Benny with guac. Keto style.

Lovely spot. Yummy food. Super friendly staff. I had the Italian Benny with a few adjustments for keto. No bread and they happily put it on a bed of spinach. Recommend.

Ordering from here is part of my "I am not cooking routine". I am a fan of the burgers here, and haven't gotten a bad one.

Food? Yeah, they have food here. I didn't try it and I don't I care that I didn't. If food is the…read moreonly reason you come here, you're making a big mistake. I took a two-month hiatus from my job to travel the western United States and Canada with my good friends. Needless to say, I saw a great number of surf shops and campgrounds. This place. This place? It does both. It has the most dope, unassuming, chill, and friendly surf shop on the same piece of land where the campground is. The campground is hidden back in this awesome old-growth pacific northwest rain forest-like area with picturesque moss and gigantic trees everywhere. There is a huge communal fire pit near the parking lot for campers to enjoy. There are also bathrooms and, I believe showers, if I remember correctly, on site. Now the surf shop. This is not some freaking commercial, mall-type Billabong, or chain boardwalk surf shop. This is a lets-get-you-on-the-waves kind of surf shop. It has what you NEED and nothing else. If you are a surfer with your own board, then they have you covered with things you might need like wax, fins, and a wet suit if you don't have your own. If you are a surfer w/o a board, because, for example, you are like me and your mode of transport didn't allow for it, then they also have you covered. Why? Because, these guys have some of the most competitive surfboard rentals in the Tofino-Ucluelet area. Pair that with the discount you get if you are camping here and this place is prime. We had been staying at some crap resort (McKenzie Beach Resort) up near Tofino where people were packed in like sardines with campsites on the freaking road. We bounced and moved here. Good move. This place is super laid back and has awesome staff manning the surf shop (a family and friends operation from what I can tell). I'm originally from the Midwest and learned to surf on one of the Great Lakes (Lake Superior). Why is this relevant you ask? Well, they had "Surf's Up" on every morning in the Surf Shop and you could go in, grab a cup of Joe, catch the surf forecast for the day, and watch Chicken Joe (home break: "The Elbow" Sheboygan, Lake Michigan) get barrelled on the TV. One of the coolest places I was on my whole two-month trip.

Great place! A good stopover after your day at the beach for a drink or a small bite.read more
