We were passing by Port Alberni and stopped here for lunch. The food was delicious and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had the Aussie pie and barrier Reef melt. Both were delicious! They both came with sides and we picked the salad and soup. Highly recommend this place! read more

Boomerangs Cafe has always been a top choice for dining out for me and my friend. It's affordability, quality food, and fast service is a rare combination these days. Though normally me and my friend go for breakfast, we decided try out the relatively new dinner menu revamp. I had the Barrier Reef Melt with the Clam Chowder as a side. Starting with the Clam Chowder, I unfortunately can't recommend this dish. It tasted too similarly to Campbells Chunky Clam Chowder. It was mostly a potato chowder with the small amount of clams it had. The clams in there weirdly tasted slightly like ham lol. It was only an extra $1.50 to add onto my main and even though it wasn't my favorite, that's a very reasonable add-on price. As for the Barrier Reef Melt, I did enjoy it. Although a slight warning, it is quite small, so this dish would be better suited if your looking for something lighter (Though it is quite rich). Oh and its not a sandwich, it's one piece of ciabatta bread open faced, cut in two. It is under the "Sanga" section in the menu so I'm sure this is a common mistake. At $21.50 ($23 with the chowder) for this plate, I do think it is a bit much for the portion size, but not an unheard of price for a seafood based dish. Overall Boomerangs is a great spot for breakfast or brunch, especially if your on your way down to the West Coast. It is not just Australian themed in name but also has Outback decor around the whole restaurant. Even though I wasn't wowed by my dinner, they have a big menu and I'm sure I'll be back to try more. read more

We had a killer brunch here last week. I had the Fraser Valley Skillet and highly recommend it. The only thing that could have heightened the experience would be having a better hot sauce than Frank's! read more

Once again Yelp helped us to find a great breakfast spot while in Port Alberni checking it out. The place is eclectically decorated, maybe not for everyone, but we liked it. Sat at the bar for something different. We were enthusiastically greeted and sat right away, menu's and water immediately. All the staff had smiles on their faces, and typical in a small town knew a lot of people's names as they walked in. Plenty of takeaway while we were there, so you know the food is good, and comes out hot. Our orders were taken (traditional brekkie) and our orders came out quite quickly in spite of how busy they were. The potatoes were a little plain for me, but I peppered as I usually do, and even added a bit of salt which I never do. The portions were a good size, the price was more than fair, and the service was great. We'll be back next time we are in the area and we'll give the lunch a go! read more

We popped in for a quick snack and ordered the crispy chook caesar wrap with garden greens on the side. Fresh and filling enough to tie us over until the next stop. They did have fresh orange juice which was nice. I liked the friendly family atmosphere of the place, as many families came in and recognized each other and would end up sitting together or chatting as they waited for food. Obviously popular with the locals! They have switched to cafeteria style ordering so go up to the bar when you are given a table and are ready to order. read more

Lunch at boomerangs was a miss for me. The club sandwich had multiple issues. The turkey is dry. The yellow/orange cheese that is popular here in Canada has a processed chemical flavor. Much of the bacon was undercooked. The chowder was supposed to be creamy but tasted of something acidic. There were no clams I could find. The wrap my wife had was fine. read more

Came to Port Alberni on our way to Nanaimo and wanted fish and chips. But places were mostly closed in town by this point except for this cafe. And we were surprised! This is a little neighborhood gem in port Alberni. Their signs are not very obvious so it's a bit difficult to find - I feel If they had a bigger sign more ppl would also notice this resto more! The waitress who served us was very friendly and down to earth. We asked a lot of questions to help us decide what to eat and we settled on two orders of fish and chips and 3 orders of kangaroo burger. It's an Australian restaurant so I was surprised to see such luxury items available (like camel and kangeroo). I also had the option to do half sweet potato fries and half bowl of chowder. We were not disappointed! The food portions are nice and generous. The fish was good but the oil was older so it came out quite dark so that was the only thing. But the fish is fresh, flaky, and the kangerroo burger was really good! The chowder was creamy and packed with flavour. It's my second time eating kangeroo meat and honestly it taste like a leaner version of a beef burger. Yum! We also tried some local beer which was pretty good from Vancouver island. Now next time if we ever go through this part of town again will come back for some more! (They ran out of a few things - the lobster Mac and cheese and some other seafood dishes) read more

Excellent food and service. But they are only open until 4 PM. They are not open for dinner.

If you only go here for the excellent service by Harmony, you will be glad you did. So refreshing to have a server that pays so much attention to detail and makes your experience so much better than just enjoying your meal. Cute, cozy atmosphere. Thanks again Harmony! I have never had so many mess ups in one order. We ordered a kangaroo burger with soup. We asked which soup, chose the clam chowder, and was asked whether we wanted it in a cup or a bowl. We were confused as it was a side so we just said bowl - maybe we had to add money to upgrade the soup side from a cup to a bowl. In the end, it turns out they added an extra bowl of soup to the order and it never came. They took it off the bill after we explained. We also ordered the fraser island skillet and instead, the canadian skillet came. The manager was awesome and helped us get it replaced with the right one. We thought it was a kitchen error at first when the manager looked for the order ticket and showed the kitchen it said fraser island; however when our bill came, it said canadian so maybe it was a server error. The skillet was good but the kangaroo burger was very lacking in flavor. Just the patty, lettuce, tomatoes and a bit of mayo. The clam chowder barely had any clams. read more

BBQ CAMEL BURGER honestly tried this just for the gram but I was even more surprised at how good it actually was! The meat itself was very well seasoned and wasn't as dry as I thought it was gonna be. Great food , good stop for us always on the way to tofino, friendly staff. Nothing to not like

Stopped into Boomerangs Cafe for breakfast on the way to the ferry for a nice sit down brunch. Great menu options and prices are right. I wanted a lighter meal so went for the "low cal" breakfast which was perfect - one poached egg, sourdough toast, cottage cheese and a fruit bowl. Oftentimes you leave brunch feeling too full and gross, but this wasn't the case here! The coffee was okay but nothing to write home about. Overall, good experience and would pop in again if I find myself on the island! read more

This is a good place to have a hearty meal. The restaurant has hints of Australian themes, not sure if it is representive of their true culture as I've never been. But you quickly get the point. The place was packed at 11:30am on a Tuesday. I stopped here with my Airbnb host and her couch surfing guest. After a morning of watching bears catch salmon we were hungry. I ordered the veggie burger with waffle fries and tried Marmite for my first time. I have to say the Marmite was a very salty and rich flavour. I liked it. The burger and fries were excellent. Nothing I haven't had before. But it hit the spot. It's a great place to grab food and spend some time with good company. read more

Boomerangs is a casual concept restaurant, friendly service, interesting decor based on Australian stuff, colourful mural leading to the washroom area. The food is delicious, large servings and served mighty fresh. My boomer burger was a knife and fork deal, my brother had the steak sandwich, which arrived piled high with onion rings and french fries along with a really good salad. The seafood sandwich was amazing. French fries really good! Good food at good prices, served well. Atmosphere is busy and friendly. Welcoming to visitors and townies alike. Lots of street parking. Some interesting shops adjacent, independent businesses, check them out. read more

The food was okay, but the portions are HUGE! Being a little pricey I knew they were going to be so i asked if I could order from the kids menu, to which she said yes, then not even a minute later another staff member comes out to tell me I cant order from that menu and if I want a smaller portion, to tell them and they will give me it just for the same price as the regular ones. So they want me to spend 18-20 bucks for HALF the food I would normally get for that price? Do NOT come here if you have eating issues, they will not accommodate. read more

Is there a restaurant where you will go back and back? Is it Boomerang's Cafe? Not for us since we were just passing by Port Alberni. But this place serves up some unique dishes that's quite down low and out there. We ordered the kangaroo burger and seafood Mac and cheese. Both were delicious! Kangaroo meat tastes quite similar to beef just slightly gamey and the Mac and cheese is a mix of several cheeses which is creamy and flavourful. Give it a try if you're ever on the Island! read more

This place is practicing the covid-19 rules. My poutine was so delicious I had to bring my leftovers home. Breakfast tomorrow! I am a Gluten Free dieter, now and I am always surprise when a restaurant has GF to offer people like me. I tried the chicken wrap with a GF wrap. Now I remembered that the GF wraps don't stay together like the flour ones. I used my fork to finish eating, no big deal, but might I make a suggestion for the next person or for me when I return to your wonderful restaurant. Can you slice the chicken breast into strips? I prefer the chicken into strips makes my bites more lady like. Thank you again for all your suggestions on your menu until my next visit. read more

Ordering from here is part of my "I am not cooking routine". I am a fan of the burgers here, and haven't gotten a bad one.

Had a great burger healthy potions. Daughter had the steak sandwich perfectly cooked.

Great breakfast for the money. They pounced on us as soon. As we walked in the door and yes we are visitors! We had coffees poured in record time. And they were busy! I loved the portions and quality and the quickness of our chef and server. I loved the attention to detail and the perfection of the egg. Overall everything tasted excellent. My wife had the Italian sausage traditional, I had the maple sausage traditional. My only comments would be I can agree with the one guy about the hashbrowns from an earlier review mine tasted very good. But I do prefer them at least crispy and these come more or less hot but far from crispy.. They will adjust it to your liking should you ask though, just expect it to take a bit longer... I would think they would even deep fry them if you asked... My sausage tasted a bit different and in hind site I liked my wife's Italian sausage better because. I Dont like sweetness in my meat and to me it had a bit of a tandoori sort of after taste which to me was a saving grace. I would have been a bit happier if they had an option for a regular pork sausage and the waitress asking if I liked my potatoes crispy. You won't go wring coming here and the decor is fun to look at as well. They even have vegimite for your toast! read more

Pros: - Great service! The waitresses were welcoming and caring. One of them gave us the WiFi password before we even thought about asking her for it. They brought the plates to our table no more than 10 minutes after we ordered. - It took me a long time to find this place. There are so many restaurants in Port Alberni that don't have any website, yelp reviews or pictures. So it was hard to find a good place to eat. However we were lucky, this one did not disappoint. - I chose the Blue Mountain Salad. It was good but I could not finish it, too much salad! It was served with garlic toasts, which were very tasty. - My husband went for an omelette with cheese, mushroom and bacon, served with potatoes and toasts. He did not finish his plate, but everything was very good anyway. - Not too greasy (which is usually the issue with this kind of breakfast/diner place). Cons: - Do not expect fine dining. The food is good, but it is simple. However considering how inexpensive it was, this restaurant is still worth it. read more

I had the Bacon Cheddar burger with yam fries, while my cousin had the Boomerangs Spaghetti. My burger was very good, it hit the spot. The yam fries were cooked the right way, not under done nor over done. My cousin really enjoyed the spaghetti which came with garlic toast. She says it was very filling. The sauce had cubed meat which was savoury. The service was prompt and the waitstaff were very friendly. The price was reasonable. read more

Been my favorite place for years but today was just amazing. Family of 2 adults, a 8 year old and a 3 year old and instantly had coloring for the kids and water. Ordered 3 piece fish and chips that was so crunchy with the biggest portions it was unreal. I joked and asked the waitress for so much tarter it would make someone question it and she came back with 5 cups. We used all 5 with the size of the fish. Sweet potatoe fries, kids strips and burger all great. Thank you! read more

This review is based on our short visit at Boomerang Cafe yesterday. We had a stopover at Port Alberni and dropped by for a quick lunch due to their high review. Staff were all smiley and extremely friendly. Unfortunately before our lunch got served, our 9 month old baby accidentally poured a glass of hot water on his leg. We quickly ran to the washroom and I remember quite a few of their staff immediately passed me a few wet towels and had us takeaway a few bags of ice before we headed to the hospital. They even helped us packed our untouched lunch, insisted not to take our money, and walked us to the car. We can't thank them enough for their help and fast response!! Will definitely wanna go back to visit them and thank them in person, have a proper meal and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. read more

Great food, generous portions, excellent service, although most of their wait staff tend to shout at customers. Great breakfast and dinner! A lot of gluten free options. Just be sure that you double check with staff that the sauce that is on your food is GF before you eat it. Loved this place! Excellent breakfast and service. I substituted fruit for the hash browns and expected what I typically get from most American restaurants, a tiny dish with 5 small, unripe pieces of pale melon and a grape or two. I was so surprised when our server brought a giant dish of the best fruit salad I've ever had - with every type of ripe, delicious, fruit included. Seriously, I was trying to figure out which fruits were not included, and every time I thought of one, I'd find a piece of that fruit. Two thumbs up for this place!
