We had the Masala Dosa (stuffed pancake made from lentils and rice) as an appetizer. This was a generous portion. Order two Ginger Chicken to one Aloo Gobi Masala, and an order of Garlic Naan, and this will be more than enough food for two! read more

Took my Army buddies there for a welcome home lunch. We came late but there were serving till 3pm. Their dishes were fresh, tasty, and large enough portions. The fish dish was well prepared. The paneer masala was mouth watering but the paneer could have been softer. The butter chicken dish was very tasty and went well with our naan and roti sampler. The dishes came with a good portion of basmati rice. The additional rice just made us very full so we could not enjoy any deserts. The korma dish was spicy but not too hot to eat and finish. We had a great time, were a little loud but the owners were very courteous and let us enjoy the homecoming. The home made lemonade was so good that hit the spot. The masala chai was also great to warm us on a cold windy day. I would definitely visit again and try more dishes. It's a South Indian flavor but well done. read more

I went to the restaurant today with 3 other colleagues at around 8 PM. When the waitress came to take the order, asked her politely whether we could speak to madame roopa ( as we were the only people placing the order at that time, wanted the food to be Indian spicy) and didn't get a chance to talk to her. We placed the order and chicken tikka masala was not up to the mark nor was the butter chicken. Anyway we carried on eating but in the end, one gentleman walks out of kitchen and out of the blue lam blasts us and states that in future, place the order only with the waitress and he was outright rude. As an Indian who was visiting temple for work and been to many restaurants, i was flabbergasted by his outburst and would never go back to this restaurant nor would i recommend it to any one. The charges from my meal came to $30. I tipped the server in cash (and wrote "cash" on the tip line) and yet my card was charged and additional $10 tip on top of the cash I gave. So either the server changed my original receipt (fraud), reprinted my receipt and wrote in what she wanted, or the bookkeeper entered the wrong information (possible mistake, but a pretty significant mistake since the service I received wasn't worth 15% tip but she received a 33% additional tip for a total of 48% tip). This is completely unacceptable! Fraudulent activity in the age of online banking?? Shame on you! read more

Visited this restaurant yesterday. Fish Pakora was good. The staff was kind enough to take my order of half plate. Thanks for that. The Palak Paneer was awful. No taste or flavor. Since most Indian curries are liquid gravy, restaurant should provide small cups with lids for takeout. Their generic take out boxes are not meant to take our foods with liquid gravy. Everything will leak or miserably mix the contents by the time you reach home. read more

We travel from out of town to Temple for work once a month or so, and decided to pick this place to eat lunch. This place opens at 11 AM, and we called at 11:10 AM, about 30 minutes before arriving in Temple, placed an order for 7 people, and the guy on the phone told us the food will be ready in 20 minutes. We get to the restaurant 30 minutes later, and the guy greeted us, looked surprised when we asked about the order, went back to the kitchen, then came back out and told us our food won't be ready for another 50 minutes to an hour. This was on top of the 30 minutes that has already passed. We asked him why and what happened, and he said that they are very busy, and started waving 8-10 receipts in front of us and said all of these orders are ahead of us. Even though we called literally 10 minutes after this place opened. He was VERY rude, and unapologetic. Did not offer to make our food first or offer ANY kind of apology. He just rudely said he told us on the phone that it was going to be an hour, even though the 6 people in the car heard him on speaker phone saying 30 minutes. Needless to say we had to leave and look for another place for lunch on a time crunch. We will NEVER come back to this place again. This customer service is not okay for a restaurant industry. read more

After bragging to our house guest about Roopa's, I decided to call in an order to go. I ordered 2 orders of butter chicken, 3 orders of chicken reshmi kabab (since I thought the children would enjoy them) 2 orders of naan and some mango cheesecake. The butter chicken was good but not the same as my previous orders. The reshmi kabab was so dry and almost burnt with a lot of very small crunchy pieces of chicken. We ended up throwing them away. It was late and maybe we just got the bottom of the barrel. The naan was too dry as was the mango cheesecake. These are all menu items that we order every time. We will call in an order in future, hoping we will have a better experience. Roopa's is a bit too expensive but the atmosphere is nice. I have eaten here several times that the food was fantastic. If I had written a review back then I would given Roopa's 5 stars. read more

We've tried this restaurant twice and both times were disastrous. The first time was a few months ago. We ordered samosas, the fish, and a couple of chicken dishes. We all ended up with a stomach upset to varying degrees. The second time was when we got carry out last night. We specifically asked for the food to be very mild and not spicy because we had a small child and a breastfeeding mom in the party. When we got home, the food was so spicy that it was almost inedible. When we called the restaurant, we were told that the food is all pre-prepared and the spice level can't really be customized. Not only that, but the person we spoke to was incredibly rude! So, bottom line, if you're going here, don't expect your food to be freshly prepared or the spice level to be customized. FYI, we're from India and have had Indian food all over India and the US. read more

We ate here on Saturday, March 25. We ordered the Gobi 65, which was dry and not very flavorful. For our entrees, we ordered Chicken Curry and Chicken Vindaloo. Both dishes were edible, but not very flavorful. The cook also used both dark and white chicken in the dishes; we have only had the chicken white meat in our experience, which makes the dish much better. The Vindaloo, normally quite spicy, was fairly bland. The waiter told us that they had no naan because "a large party" was coming in later that evening. No naan in an Indian restaurant??? To be fair, we were comparing Roopa's with our experiences at the Red Onion Indian Bistro in Killeen, which had EXCELLENT food -- well presented, plenty of naan, and all bursting with exotic flavors and spices from the Indian/Asian region. Sorry, Roopa's. We won't return. In fact, I'm looking for Red Onion's recipes on the internet to try to reproduce them at home. PS: The Red Onion Indian Bistro is now closed, not because of lack of business but because someone made an offer the owners couldn't refuse. Obviously, the new owner came in thinking he could make even more money with a Mexican restaurant there (that's all we need is another Mexican restaurant!). Sad. read more

Everything we've had there has been very good to excellent, but there is one dish that stands out at the top of the spectrum; the Butter Chicken has an exquisite - perfect - combination of spices. I wish that I could agree with the other reviews...the ones that convinced me to go spend my money here... I lovvvvve Indian food. Like i have a serious emotional connection to it. Anyway...so the menu is pretty minimal. They didn't have korma so i ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was sooooo watery. Like chicken broth watery. Flavors were good but definitely not the full bodied, developed flavors I expect to enjoy. The naan was not light and fluffy it was dense and had a bitter aftertaste. The Samosa is delicious. So took my Father here a few days ago for his birthday. As they have many plant based items and it is near my parent's home. Have not been back since the first visit. Looks like EVERYTHING has improved. The food is still great, and spicy here, means spicy! Glad about that. Service was very good. Mango cheesecake was different and divine. What can I say about Roopa's kitchen? I can tell you this, I've lived in England where the best of the best Indian restaurants exist. Roopa's is right up there with them. I live in Austin and have tried all of the most popular, best reviewed Indian restaurants, but I'd rather travel to Temple to eat at Roopa's. Service was very good as well. Please try this place. First time trying Indian food and it blew me away! Once we walked in, the hostess (whom also happened to be our waitress) was very friendly and had a smile on her face. We ordered an appetizer that was simply amazing and entrees were magnificent (we upgraded to the lemon rice which I definitely recommend)! Our waitress was awesome, she topped off my water glass four times without me having to ask and she even comped a meal for us (without us asking her to) due to her making a slight mistake on our ticket. ALSO, if you tell them that you want you entree spicy, it'll definitely be spicy (I'll most likely get my entree mild next time I return)! This is, hands down, the best restaurant in temple. The food is always delicious and authentic. The waiters are nice and i have never had a bad experience here, and i've been here A LOT. It might be a little expensive, but unlike every other expensive place in Temple, it's well worth the money. The lemon rice is amazing and i tried to think of my favorite entree for a suggestion, but i cannot decide between the many i've had! I was so happy to find an Indian restaurant in town, my husband and I went at the first chance we got. We started by trying the samosas, they were potato and pea filled and did not disappoint. They were both fluffy and crispy and for sure fresh made, with a tamarind dipping sauce that really brought out some of the richer spicy notes. From here my husband and I took different routes, he chose the chicken curry at a medium spice level and I went all out, chicken vindaloo and make it extra spicy. My husband gobbled up his curry so I'm just going to assume it was as delicious as it smelled. The chicken vindaloo was tender, and exploding with flavor. It actually brought out a sweat, and if I'm eating something spicy, it better make me sweat! When ordering, you may wonder if you should upgrade from basmati rice to the lemon rice, and I'd reccommend it as well. It has little peanuts and kafir lime leaves and it was great at soaking up that thick vindaloo gravy. The naan was on point, we ordered extra. We also tried a dessert, the name escapes me at the moment but was essentially a cool, sweet donut served in a sweet saffron syrup. I'd go back just for the dessert but we had such a great meal, the service was great, the waitresses were friendly and informative. If you love Indian food, give this place a try, it was well worth the visit and we look forward to returning in the future. read more

The service was attentive and consistent, and I was able to order the chicken curry, which was delicious. The chicken was just about as tender as I have ever seen at any restaurant. Very good. We usually make a trip to Red Onion in Killeen from Belton for our Indian food fix. We started with samosa (recommended), chai tea, Dal Fry & Rajma for our entrees. Both had excellent flavor. Roopa just opened up the brick and mortar establishment. She was previously a call in and order type of place. Congratulations! Definitely worth a go. If you have a craving for Indian food this is a very nice place to come and check out. The chicken tikka was very tasty to me. My wife thought the sauce was kinda thin (possibly a regional thing). They don't have the knock you down Indian spices some places have. The rice was plain and begging for a few Indian spices that being said they do have a lemon option for the rice that I will try next time. Wait staff was outstanding.
