Long Story Short: It's cheap. It's fast. She's a friendly, scrappy entrepreneur. And we're happy with the results every time. Long Story: So we learned about threading a couple of years ago. Instead of smearing hot wax on hairy facial parts and yanking them out Kelly-Clarkson-stylie, one could theoretically use common sewing thread to quickly and precisely accomplish the same thing. One spool of red thread, a sea of tears, and several YouTube tutorials later... well, let's just say the results were not... an improvement. Yeah. Let's leave this to the professionals, shall we? After having a great experience at a mall kiosk in North Carolina (?!?), we were bummed with the (lack of) options here in PDX. We tried one place Downtown but were disappointed with pricing and service time. Lo and *behold*... A flyer on the side of an Indian cart... Like an answer from the heavens, we found Gurpreet. She does exactly what we need--cheerfully and efficiently "editing" our eyebrows to perfection and for about half the price of threading or conventional waxing at other places. Operating out of newly-renovated garage space, Roop is a full service salon-type place, so if your preferred method of self-mutilation involves hot wax, she does that, too. Freak. read more

I don't even live in Oregon, but I feel like I ought to write a review for Roop Beauty. I'm currently in NYC where eyebrow threading shops are as common as Starbucks. I have been getting my eyebrows threaded religiously for about seven years now and I've been to good artists (I call them 'artists' because I think threading is more than a skill--it's an art) and I've been to not so good ones. Gurpreet is one of the best. She is conscientious and detailed, she'll listen to you comments after she's done, and you don't feel rushed to get out of that chair until your eyebrows are perfect. I really appreciate that. A truly good threading will last me up to three weeks and even then, clean-up is easy because the base has been done so well. I definitely got that after going to Roop Beauty. Every time I'm back in Oregon and I need to get those brows cleaned up, I'll be headed back to this spot! read more

Being new to the PNW, I was bummed that I didnt know where I could find someone to tame the caterpillers above my eyes. I had numorus indian salons near me at my old employer where I could go for a 'thread-job', but I never found a 'little india' in Hillsboro. Luckily, I yelp'ed eyebrow places and found this little shop in an off beat area of Aloha. Would certianly have never found this shop during my travels and probably would have been hesitant to step in. Anywho, Gurpreet is the owner and only stylist. BUT, she is also SUPER friendly and personable. Part of a beuty salon is, in my opinion, being able to chat with someone while getting gussied up. IF you are not a person who likes this...like the gal that was getting her hair done before my turn...it seems like she is a chameloen with knowing when to carry a conversation. I went in for my eyebrows and ummmm....the very few teeny tiny hairs above my lip. She was quick to pull but also took time to work on the shape (it had been a while). Finished product was being fur free and even and perfectly manicured eyebrows. Oh, and the prices were not spendy (about $20 with a tip). Only thing is that she doesnt accept cc without a fee for being under a price. I don't hold that against anyone the way that VISA/AMEX/ETC charges for these small businesses. read more

While she does appointment only, I was not aware of this when I showed up 20 mins until 6. She was on her way out, but was willing to still take my cousin and I. My cousin specifically asked for just a clean up and to not mess with the thickness, but she took off a couple of rows beyond what needed to be cleaned, making them way thinner than she had desired. For me, she did an uneven job, which could have been due to the fact that she was on the phone the whole time. It sounded like she needed to be somewhere, but she could have put it down for 15 mins to just focus because I think she would have gone faster. read more

After all the great reviews I thought to give this place a try. I've been threading for the past 5 years so I know how I like my brows. I was surprised that I was able to get an appt the same day I called. When I first arrived the door was locked and tried knocking for a while. I had to call the place and I woke up the owner. Which isn't a good thing when you have and appt set. I had explained to her that I wanted to keep the shape but clean them up and she said she understood. When she was done I looked in the mirror to see she gave me almost no eyebrows left and somehow pulled some skin off my eyelid. I was so shocked and disappointed. I won't be going back. read more

This is the best around town! The only downside is that she lives a bit far from me. I've had my eyebrows done by her, after even which my DAD noticed and complimented them. :) I've also had my hair dyed with henna by her.
