If I could give zero stars, I would. This experience was that bad. Roofworks advertises "Free Estimates" on their website, which is why we contacted them for a simple roof repair estimate after tree damage. We were clear from the beginning that we only needed to know how much it would cost to repair the roof. Whether a homeowner pays cash or later chooses to involve insurance is the homeowner's decision. What happened instead was unprofessional and, based on the circumstances, felt dishonest. They sent someone out who only conducted an interior walk-through and never accessed the roof at all. This is a standard Baltimore rowhome. A roofing company should know before arriving that roof access is required to provide an estimate. We were then told they would need to return with another person, making the first visit unnecessary and a waste of time. We later had a second scheduled appointment, which they canceled the night before, stating they had not received a State Farm insurance breakdown. This explanation does not make sense. Insurance paperwork has nothing to do with determining roof height, ladder size, measurements, or providing an estimate. If the first visit had been handled properly, they would already know what ladder was required. Despite this, the responsibility was shifted back onto the property owner. Our public adjuster had already provided a letter from the insurance company acknowledging expected liability, but even that should not matter. A free estimate is not dependent on insurance, and we could have chosen to pay cash. This resulted in our time being wasted twice. What is especially concerning is the lack of pricing transparency. The scope of work and cost to repair a roof do not change based on who pays. Conditioning an estimate on insurance documentation gives the impression that pricing may be handled differently for insurance-based jobs versus cash-paying customers. That lack of transparency came across as dishonest and misleading. ADA concern: I am a person with a disability, and scheduling appointments requires advance planning and accommodations. Repeated last-minute cancellations and shifting explanations created a disproportionate burden and showed a lack of consideration for accessibility needs. If Roofworks only accepts insurance-driven work or cannot provide a basic estimate without insurer paperwork, that should be clearly disclosed upfront. Buyer beware: Based on this experience, I would not recommend Roofworks to anyone seeking a straightforward estimate, transparent pricing, reliable scheduling, or reasonable ADA accommodation. read more

Edit: After posting the review, April resolved our remaining issue (thank you). I hope in the future Roofworks will have a knowledgeable foreman check the install so their customers do not need to point out issues. If their customers do find issues, I hope they'll also be more responsive to concerns. A few of the issues: * Installed the wrong range hood vent and refused to replace it for over a month, even with written proof from the manufacturer that the vent was insufficient for the purpose. * Repaired a rafter and charged us for it without any prior communication. This should have required a permit and inspection. * Initially omitted kickout flashing that was explicitly included in our quote. On the other side of the house, thought this caulk monstrosity was acceptable for kickout flashing (photo). * When we pointed out the kickout flashing issue, the install follow-up guy was surprised to hear we were getting our siding replaced (which would have affected the flashing install). Their sales rep knew this and must not have told the team. * Initially installed a different ridge vent on part of the roof and only replaced it when we pointed out that it looked different. Follow-up guy said the install team must have used a random piece from their truck instead of what was specified in our contract (photo 2). * Customer service was poor beyond the sales quote. Installation team did not even tell us when they were done or do a walkthrough, just left. For $19k, I expected much better from the start. This company was hired to fix and install a "new roof" by a third party and left it in worse shape than they found it. After this, the owner April tried to pull a quid pro quo for her to look into potentially fixing the company's bad work in exchange for pulling down a negative online review. When the online review wasn't taken down, she never responded to any follow-up emails or calls. The roofer left an impression with me that he was in a hurry and did not care for the pooling problem he admitted to, and at least one company representative on the phone was rude and combative. As background, the property was vacant at the time of service, and I presume no one from the property was there at the time. We met the roofer later on so he could audit his own work, after much insistence on the phone, and the first thing he commented on was that he was in a hurry to meet his fiancé(e). He got on the roof, did not spend a lot of time, came down and admitted there was pooling but that "flat roofs" do that. We spent more time talking than he spent inspecting the roof, and when I pointed out that our neighbors didn't have that problem and that the pooling was worse before he had no response. It took awhile to even get the company to send him to - objectively? - inspect his potentially hurried failures when no one was watching him install the roof. I wouldn't expect him to admit it if he did mess up or rush the job to go see his fiancé(e). Only after a representative from a major real estate agency got on the phone with Roofworks did they agree to send someone to inspect. I guess they were afraid of getting the bad publicity in the real estate agent community and potentially ruining any deals they may have. Their argument is that flat roofs pool water. We told them that it was worse after they installed the new roof, and most of the time they ignored this but once they even tried to argue that I actually didn't see the roof before the repairs. They also ignored pictures (see attached before and after). They harped on the misnomer name of "flat roof" and didn't take responsibility. Flat roofs do have a gutter system and when done properly they are supposed to have a slight incline to that gutter. Our row home neighbors also didn't have pooling as bad as we did after the "new roof." In total, we spent several hours trying to get them to fix their shoddy work, but to no avail. Great at first, but not after I questioned their pricing I would like to start off by saying that I am usually not the one to write reviews unless I receive exemplary or unsatisfactory service and unfortunately this service was unsatisfactory. This review is receiving a two star rating only because of the great service Chris (the Field Technician) had provided to me when coming out to my home and walking with my insurance adjuster. Thanks again Chris. Unfortunately, that is where the great customer service ends. I requested to be given an estimate of what it would cost to replace the roof, fix the gutters, and make repairs to a few other areas. The representative Claudia sent the estimate over and notated on their proposal that I did not provide the insurance company's scope or estimate. Things started to take a turn for the worst when I asked Claudia if she could itemize the repair so I could see the quoted labor rate and material cost for my insurance company to review. Their initial proposal just included a lump sum price. She then advises me that they are unable to do a cost breakdown without the full scope of the insurance company. If you are up front with your cost and service, I feel like there shouldn't be anything to hide in your unit pricing. After pondering over the idea, I went ahead and sent over the insurance adjustors scope, but blocked off all of the pricing amounts of how much the insurance company was going to give me. I left the amount of squares, LF, and amount of materials on there so Roofworks would know how much they are estimating for to compare. I received a response from Claudia advising "If our price was to be different from insurance, the very first question from them would be to tell them what items we are higher on and why? We can't answer those questions if the customer blocks the pricing on the scope" This really concerns me because it seems like once they have the insurance adjustors quote, they can inflate their prices to match the insurance adjustors cost. How are you not able to provide me an itemized pricing breakdown of how you got to your estimate that you sent to me? I still do not have that answer and can not understand unless there was an ulterior motive. To put the cherry on top, at the end of this same email Claudia reply's with a snide remark; "We apologize for the inconvenience and wish you good luck with your project" As the customer, I felt that she was essentially saying that you I am being difficult and we do not need your business. After this brief correspondence, I have not heard from her; even after a few follow up emails. I am not normally the one to leave a long-winded review, but wanted others to hear my experience. Roofworks was phenomenal to work with. Initially in 2015 or so I asked them to give me an estimate on a porch roof. I did not end up moving forward with the job, but they gave the most thorough and reasonable estimate of 3 companies. So in Dec 2018 when I needed to re-do a typical DC rowhouse roof I called them, along with 3 other companies. This time the roof was leaking and it was a must do. Roofworks sent over someone to do the inspection right away, and give a very reasonable detailed estimate. Of the three roofing companies, one never got back to me, one gave a slightly higher estimate but the warranty part wasn't so clear. I went with Roofworks, and was glad I did. They called me to set up the job within 30 days (around 15-20 days actually) and did the job in one day. Best part: sent very detailed photos of the process and final result. As they did the work I was displeased with them so I called the company office and was informed I would get a thousand dollars waived off my bill they gave some discount but it wasn't the thousand dollars and even with the discount my bill was still a thousand dollars to pay when I informed them of what was promised they turned around and sued me. Now when you put together my whole bill with the discount they gave me it either should have been a zero balance or after the remaining balance and their so called discount of 600+ dollars I would have had a $316 to pay but they are just a very crooked company my roof is still leaking read more

Sucks. They did a terrible job. The contract said it would take one day, and it took 53 days. I had to have the salesman come back to inspect the work and verify that it was not done properly. I waited three weeks to get that review scheduled. They also hurled the roofing materials on our house, which caused damage to the inside of the house. Roofworks is the least professional, and downright shady contractor I've ever hired. After selling me a roof to solve a leak (it didn't), I hired them again. This time they sent a guy to our home for an hour, who did nothing. They then sent the same guy back who told us they couldn't do anything. For those two trips they've decided to keep the $1500 deposit I paid. After deciding not to allow them back in our home, their owner, April Smith sent me an email threatening to have a collections firm bill me for the balance. Sloppy and amateurish. They replaced a section of roof, resulting in a puddle forming directly on a seam. Resulting water pressure created a new leak that the project manager said 'is to be expected with flat roofs.' Not 2 months after they completed the work. If I could give them a 0 I would. I was referred to this company by several people and I was in need of a new roof, so I called them up. I was excited that I could get on the schedule so soon and the representative was so friendly. The materials were delivered and sat in front of my house for 2 weeks. Then when the office got involved and things got very unprofessional rather quickly! The office representatives were unprofessional borderline rude and when the work was complete there some damage done to some of my window screens. The original rep was not as friendly when he came back to replace the torn screen. He did a horrible job replacing the screen! Just confirmed from two established roofing companies that the drip edge was installed when the roof was done. The owner at Roofworks denied that they had put the drip edge on at all, but the roofers showed where the drip edge was stapled UNDER the shingles as only would be done as shingles were being replaced. That doesn't feel good, knowing that the estimator immediately spotted the shoddy work but the owners wouldn't stand behind their company's work. read more

While there work is good, their customer service is terrible. They say they will get back in contact with you and they never do. When you call back to check the status of an installation, they get an attitude. There excuse when scheduling a install, its always "I will get in touch with the project manager and get back to you". This is the worst customer service i have ever had. But, once the job is complete, they will call you the next day asking how to charge the balance of the bill. Typical.
