I already knew shooting was not automatic for me. I had some bad habits. Well, maybe I had a lot of bad habits. Sandy assesses your level: beginner, intermediate, expert. Then he helps you make your gun handling and shooting MUCH more smooth and effective. In my case, I signed up for a private lesson. As a woman, I was used to shooting rifles (had livestock and therefore problem predators occasionally), but not my handguns. When I bought a new handgun, I wanted to get training on handling and shooting it, quickly, effectively, and accurately. That's what I'm getting. And can't believe what I've learned already to prevent jamming, to increase speed while keeping accuracy, etc. And his rates? Very affordable. And great gun range out in the country: perfect place to learn. Sandy teaches all levels, from beginners to professionals, from personal protection to concealed carry. I know a good instructor when I see one. Very methodical, starts from where you are, helps you correct what you need to, allows you to repeat until you develop "second nature," and then advances you to the next step to meet your identified goals. Jeff and his instructors are incredibly professional, knowledgeable and experienced. Anyone who owns a gun and hasn't been to some training absolutely needs to take his classes. For beginners you can literally show up with a brand new gun still in the box and they'll walk you through everything in his Handgun 101 class. For experienced shooters, look at Advanced Handgun, and Carbine classes. I've shot at training courses in CA, NV and here in north TX and Kranz is among the best. Friendly, has great expertise to pass along and you're absolutely walking away more experienced and ready.

I was definitely nervous day of but Damon eased those feelings once we got started. Damon gave us so much great information regarding how to get away from dangerous situations, how to stay alert and aware of our surroundings, what could happen if I was in a bad situation - lots of hands-on training and step-by-step instructions. Damon was easy to talk to, listened intently to our questions and answered them thoroughly with real life examples. I hope I never have to use these newly acquired skills but I know if I'm ever put in a life-threatening situation, I'll be prepared. I HIGHLY recommend his class! I can't wait to take the next one!

Had my 3rd session at Big Boar with Tate today. Every time I go I learn critical defense skills…read morethat address any shortcomings I have. Tate gives advice and 'homework' that I can take back to practice at the indoor range and dry firing at home. Thanks to Big Boar I am now 100% confident in shooting with iron sights and in reactive and tactical shooting. It's a bit of a drive to get to to Big Boar but 1000% worth it. I've been shooting for 40+ years and in the last 3 months I have improved exponentially. The joy of shooting has come back to me. Before Big Boar, going to the range was kind of like a dreaded exercise session. Since taking my first session at Big Boar, shooting is fun again as well as a challenge and a self improvement, self esteem reward. I can't recommend Big Boar and Tate enough. Photos show targets from reactive shooting at 10yrds with no optics, 2 shots fired in 0.83 to 1.04 seconds. 3 months ago, I wouldn't even have had a clue or chance of doing this.

I love being able to talk and joke about a range of things ( pun intended ). The range is clean and ran with safety as a priority. The only issue I have is my fat ass feels like I'm about to break their chairs. That's more a "me" issue though. I think I will only shoot here as I feel like family when I am there. They are always attentive. I've visited on Wednesday for Ladies Day a couple of times. There is always someone available in the shooting area for questions and concerns. That person will offer suggestions or assistance from time to time. When we visit on other days they are not "standing at the ready" in the same way, so that is definitely a benefit for ladies who are trying to get more comfortable with shooting. I'm not very experienced yet and they have been so helpful as I learn. Silly little things happen when you are trying to reload or the gun jams or something. They have really helped me build confidence. We have visited during weekdays and on weekends and it's always been a positive experience. We have not been there in the evening. I would definitely recommend Texas Legends.
