The goal was to achieve the right grade so the gate would swing open smoothly. On the opposite side of the house, we had to clear out several hostas to make space for another fence gate. Additionally, we needed to remove some dead and dying bushes near the side of the house and replace them with hardy plants that would last for the next 20 years. After receiving quotes and proposals from several landscape companies, my wife and I were left scratching our heads, feeling that the offers were unrealistic.
