I was looking for a unique home office installation that could function as a workspace while also housing my library of music, photo albums, and books. I also had some specific wish list items such as a "hiding" bourbon nook. While the functionality of the piece was crucial, I would dare to say the aesthetic was even more important to me. My hope was that the space would be so inviting and inspiring that even after I'd hang up ye ole' work hat, that I'd still want to linger in the room to unwind with a good book, some good tunes (and maybe a tumbler of good bourbon too...). I've dropped in some photos of the finished product as well as my original crappy doodle of what I was looking for and will try to upload a few photos once I get everything settled. Graham and his small but mighty team were amazing to work with from start to finish. Graham was highly collaborative and offered phenomenal suggestions. My favorite was his suggestion to situate the bookshelves above the desk at an angle. This provided more of an ample workspace and also added to the artistic flare of the piece. I plan on hanging up a canvas print in between the bookshelves, so the orientation of the shelves will also guide the eye to the print. Because Willson Woodworking is pretty much a one person show, it took a few months from when I gave the green light to when the finished product was installed. However, Graham and team were upfront from the beginning about how many projects were queued up prior to mine. It is beyond worth it to have a one-of-a-kind piece that is of the highest quality rather than something that is mass produced and can be found in every other home. One other note on value: I did reach out to two other contractors about the project before deciding on Willson Woodworking. One was a local handyman, and one was a closet solutions company. All three quotes came in at roughly the same price. I think this speaks volumes about just how reasonable Willson Woodworking was in terms of pricing. This was definitely an investment regardless of which contractor I chose, but there was no comparison between the three in terms of the finished product. Shout out to Kevin, who professionally painted the shelves (regent blue). Like Graham, Kevin was kind enough to stop by my house and talk through thoughts on color choices. Plus, he helped Graham install the finished product! Another shout out to Raychel, who coordinated the administrative components of the project. Full disclosure: I'll be posting this same review on other platforms as I want to be sure to champion this local vendor!

Expert Level Home Services - A good powerwash, some rotten wood replacements and stain helped revitalize this playset.

It was a bit of a tricky job due to the trim being arched, which meant it had to be traced and cut appropriately. I had the pleasure of contacting David, whom I asked several questions of how he would go about the process and I felt very comfortable with everything he walked through. He scheduled the work for a couple weeks out, text notifications let me know when he would be arriving and he was able to complete everything within a few hours. David cut the replacement beautifully using PVC so there is no maintenance on it in the future and caulked / sealed up all points of exposure to rain. He was very efficient, kind, and answered all the questions I had since I'm learning to do these kinds of tasks on my own. The pricing was extremely competitive and there's no question that I'll have David back pretty soon for other jobs around my home that I'm not comfortable handling. Highly recommended, thanks again David! Best, Charlie

Chris was wonderful - professional and friendly, he did top-quality work and completed the job in a timely manner. I felt very comfortable having Chris working in our home with our dog present, which is always an added bonus! The quality of Chris' work was excellent, he matched the stain & finish of our existing cabinets exactly - you would never know his pieces were added later. When he came over for the quote I explain my "vision" and he matched it exactly, for a very fair and competitive price. I would highly recommend Chris to friends and family, and do intend to have him back in the future for other projects around the house that I would like to have done! Chris is a very skilled carpenter, I could tell that from his portfolio of work right away. You won't be dissapointed with Chris!

We…read morethen looked into custom made furniture, getting bids from 4 companies, 1 of which was CA Custom Woodworking (Chris Ammenhauser, proprietor). We went with Chris, and now that the job is done, we are very pleased with the outcome. I would give Chris a high recommendation for any custom furniture you may need. The following is our experience, and compares Chris with his competition (stores and other custom contractors) in 4 areas: 1) MATCH TO WHAT WE WANTED: Store: Not good. We couldn't find what we wanted in a store or on the Internet. Chris: Very good. We documented exactly what we wanted (exact sizes, functionality, finish), & Chris built it exactly as wanted. We left the trim, molding, door/drawer panels up to Chris & he made good choices. We provided the knobs & pulls. Custom Competition: We were dealing with honest reputable companies and feel their results would have been as good as Chris's, for matching what we wanted. 2) QUALITY: Store: Varies from low to high. Chris: High quality, comparable to high quality store furniture. All solid wood or plywood, solid well built, good joints, quality drawer-guides & hinges, good finish. Custom Competition: From 2 of them we would expect quality equal to Chris's, but from 1 their quality clearly seemed inferior, using pressboard/plywood veneers with Rafix connectors. 3) PRICE: Custom furniture cannot compete on price with store furniture, which is usually mass-produced in volume in low wage countries using pressboard and wood veneers. Chris's price was lower than his custom competition, which made this project possible for us. We found this approximate rule-of-thumb: Store: (if we could find what we wanted) cost = X dollars. Chris: cost = 1.5X dollars. Custom Competition: cost = 2X to 2.6X dollars. 4) TIME: Store: If they have it, fastest = same day. If they have to order it, slowest = usually 3 months or more in our experience, in spite of their initial promises to get it faster. Chris: Our job (which I considered to be a large job) took 2 months. Custom Competition: their estimates varied from 4 to 14 weeks.
