Bad service. It took over an hour to get our entree, and then they delivered it cold. It wasn't very busy. My understanding is that they decided to go more casual, lost a Michelin star, but still served good food.the menu was creative,but maybe they should try harder if the don't want to lose another. I could easy get grilled sea bass for half the price at dozens of restaurants that serve it warm. The beurre -blanc sauce was very good. The took it off my bill,but I'd rather pay for excellent food than eat cold food for free. The bean salad was very good, but an hour between salad and simple grilled fish isn't acceptable. I can't say enough about what a gem of an eatery this place is. Ron Gastropub came highly recommended by some friends with excellent taste, so I knew it would be a winner. It exceeded my every expectation. Incredibly cool vibe. World-class service from every staff member, from hostess, to server to bartender. And the food, oh the food... worthy of a Michelin-rated chef. We dined on the white asparagus, romaine salad, lobster and spareribs. Every dish was executed to perfection. I was in Amsterdam for my sister's birthday and we wanted to go to a nice restaurant that would give us a great dining experience. Ron Gastrobar came highly suggested and we decided to go to the michelin star restaurant. Reservations fill up quick so beware. I believe they open up reservations a month at a time. The ambiance is gorgeous from the outside walking in and the hostess was very kind and friendly guiding us to our seat. Caviar and eggs - 10/10. Definitely recommend! I don't even like eggs but something about the way they made it and paired with the caviar was just very delicious. Ribeye steak - 9/10. They literally came out with the raw steak to show us the portion size which was very helpful so we got one to share since it was so big. The steak had amazing flavor and we got it medium. It was a little chewy however. Ron's surprise - 10/10. I had no idea what I was getting but I was pleasantly surprised! Inside the chocolate egg was peach flavored yolk and mousse. Very creative and I love how the yolk could be "popped" like the real one. They also ended our meal with a tiny ice cream drumstick which was free and really cute. Overall, I would go back and I highly recommend this place for a special occasion or if you just want to feel fancy because this place is not cheap! read more

Enjoy your magical evening at Ron Gastrobar. When researching places to eat in Amsterdam, Ron Gastrobar didn't pop up and I'm surprised. We only found it because a local brought us there. It's a Michelin star restaurant and deserves it. I checked later and it has $$$$, I felt the prices were reasonable and those dollar signs shouldn't stop you. First, we enjoyed some "snacks" appetizers and then chose the 4 course chef's menu. I'm so glad we did, each course was beautifully presented and was delicious. They even accommodated my lactose free dietary restrictions. I loved they served our food on traditional Dutch Delft Blue plates. We lost track of time during our dining experience and spent almost 3 hours there. read more

Ron Gastrobar is a one star Michelin restaurant in Amsterdam. It seems like there are a few locations around the city, but we went to the one on Sophialaan near Vondelpark because it was the closest location to my friend's apartment. From the minute we walked into the restaurant we could tell that the service here was warm and friendly. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us good recommendations in terms of what to order and how much. We ordered about four dishes between the two of us - the steak tartare, spare ribs, frites, and pasta. We also ordered two glasses of champagne each and the bill turned out to be around 200 euros, which was not bad at all considering the quality and quantity. The restaurant is beautiful, but not super fancy and was perfect for what we were looking for because we wanted to dine at a place that did casual fine dining. Would definitely recommend this place and would love to go back the next time I'm in Amsterdam. read more

Just wow! I went here while on a trip to Amsterdam with my coworkers and we had an amazing time! Definitely worth the hype and the Michelin Star. My colleague got us a reservation a few weeks before and once the day came, we easily got a table. The menu is jam-packed with delicious choices and we were excited to try the Blck Pearl Kaviaar with traditional garnishes. It was one of the best caviar experiences I've ever had! We also got the Romaine lettuce (a really beautiful salad), the Mackerel (very flavorful), Fries, and Joselito Paleta Iberico (so so delicious!) from the Snack menu. For dessert, we got Ron's surprise egg, which really was a fun surprise and I don't want to spoil it. Just know that it was worth it and every aspect of it was delicious. As a non-drinker, I also really appreciated all the non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. This restaurant is a must-visit in Amsterdam! read more

Ron Gastrobar is located in Amsterdam South a short walk (through affluent neifhnorhoods) from the museums. They say this restaurant is trend setting; which I cannot speak too. However, it is an extraordinary experience; fun, adventuresome and deeply satisfying. You should ask for a table upstairs where the tables have tablecloths and the ambiance is elegant. We had fresh oysters, chicken tacos, Iberico ham, Oxtail, short ribs, beef wellington and fritz. The entries are delicious. Reservations required. Highly recommended. read more

One of the fancy restaurants by Ron, this is a French cuisine place. We came here for the lunch deal were you select 2 dishes and a dessert. The food was beautifully presented, though portions were definitely small. The highlights for me was the more exotic veal brain and the spare ribs. The signature dessert surprise egg was beautiful and tasted delicious. Wine was expensive, at €35 for a bottle. Service was very slow and also not very responsive. Overall, great that you can sit outside in the good weather, the food was tasty but not worth coming on a repeat visit for me. read more

There's a reason why this place is highly rated on Yelp, Trip Advisor and just about anywhere. It's deserving of its Michelin Star with their delicious flavorful dishes and friendly wait staff. I made lunch reservations before our trip and although we got to the restaurant early, they had no problem seating us. My husband and I ordered a few dishes to share - Trofie Pasta, Langoustine, Spare Ribs and Veal Brain (which I didn't partake). The Trofie Pasta and Spare Ribs were my favorites. It was packed with flavors. I wasn't a fan of the Langoustine because I thought it would be served warm but it wasn't. My husband thought the Veal Brain was good but would've liked to eat it with bread because he said it's similar to eating bone marrow. The complimentary bread and butter with fried bacon could be a meal on its own. It was hard to stop eating it. Lastly, the "egg" dessert was worth the indulgence. It wasn't overly sweet yet enough to curb your sweet tooth. With all that said, we had a wonderful dining experience and highly recommend this place because we would love to come back. read more

While decent, not what is to be expected from a Michelin star restaurant. Certainly did its job in terms of food, but there were some offhanded comments made by our server, as well as a bb jdetectable animosity between the staff themselves. A specific instance saw one of our (many) waiters subtly humiliate the worker who brought a dish out of the kitchen, who was clearly not informed as to where it should go. Though everything was taken care of in terms of hospitality, the food was simply not good enough to excuse our lackluster experience. Steak tartare was good with a variety of garnishes; clearly there is an emphasis on the quality of ingredients, though the customer was given full control of how much of each to use. A greater test was in the Dover sole, a chance for the kitchen to showcase its skill in fusing flavors and textures in a unique way. It fell short though, and beyond its effective presentation was nothing more than ordinary. The pairing of the fish and pea sauce left more to be desired; it was unbalanced and overwhelming. My partner ordered some lesser-pressured side dishes, which, in vain, we also expected to be amazing in a restaurant of this supposed caliber. Perhaps my expectations were too high for an establishment now without its titular chef, but I certainly expected everything (down to the non-specialty dishes) on Ron Gastropub's menu to have at least one remarkable facet. Unfortunately, I fear nothin we ate, aside from maybe the dessert egg (which was a beautiful fusion of tart, sweet, and a variety of textures), will fail to warrant a lasting memory. read more

Closer to 3.75 stars. New American Style food. Opted out of the tasting menu and went for multiple dishes instead. Foie gras terrine: I don't typically like this way of preparing foie, but it was well cooked and paired excellently with the smoked eel. The white port and cherries sauce gave it a lighter feel as well. One of the highlight dishes of the night Mackerel sashimi: well cooked and paired well with the roe. Steak tartare: the beef was good, but the dish was on the saltier side especially with the anchovy Veal: it was prepared three ways (tongue, sweetbread, kidneys). Probably my least favorite dish. I'm always up for trying new dishes, but the kidneys had a very organ-taste that was quite powerful. Spare ribs: Served with sambal. The meat was well cooked, but was on the fatty side and the sauce was quite overpowering. Surprise egg dessert: it's quite good and I don't want to say too much so that you can experience it yourself, but would recommend. PRO TIP: if you don't mind eating earlier, they offer a 20% off discount if you finish your meal by 7:30pm. read more

I don't know. I can't say this was magnificent by any means. Maybe my impression was terribly skewed because I was with colleagues from work I'd rather not dine with, but Ron Gastrobar was okay. I was impressed with their service, I'll say that much. A guy came with a meat cart to show us all the different cuts we could choose from. I'm slowly transitioning to a plant based diet, but when out with the company, I can manage a steak. I thought based on the reputation I was going to be blown away with a flavorful perfectly cooked steak. It was good, but not the best I've had. None of the sides that were ordered stood out. I think the best thing I had was that cauldron of homemade ice cream that came out with all the different toppings. It was a crowd pleaser to the point that we ordered a second one. All in all, I think I'd have to come back and experience this with people I want to be around and food I get to order myself and see if it changes my perception. read more

(3.5 stars) I was slightly disappointed with our dinner experience. The food was definitely good, but it didn't feel deserving of its one Michelin star. Plus the whole €15 per plate concept to allow for a more affordable yet still high-quality dining experience doesn't really apply when you need two or three dishes to equal a regular-sized meal. The restaurant is very nice though and make to sure to dress well as everyone else likely will. We went with the holstein because the full steaks were highly recommended by the staff and why not try a Dutch steak when in Amsterdam. Though beautifully presented, it initially came out a little rarer than desired, to the point where the first description that came to mind was chewy. After send it back for further preparation with some added char, it was great. The blade steak dish was enjoyable but quite small, loved the base of the dish whatever it was. The redfish was too small to get any real attachment too though the sauce was great. And the fries did not disappoint. read more

This by far was the most expensive and the least impressive dinner we had during our week vacation in Amsterdam. From all the glorying reviews online and enticing Instagram pictures I expected creativity, uniqueness, something memorable and personal. It was neither of those things. The menu smartly designed as a newspaper was extensive and promising. We ended up ordering 6 or 7 plates out of which only two stood out. One was a fish roe-based paste on a crispy bread under a bed of radishes - indeed something like I never tried before. The other... was a portion of chicken wings. We ordered it just for the hell of it - I always wanted to know what a Michelin star can do to chicken wings. Well... nothing. That was about it. Plates kept coming perfectly timed, but poorly portioned. After two hours or so we were at a loss of why this place is so hyped. Of course dishes were well prepared, but not a single bite would bring a wow factor. Service? Had I not seen other waiters in the restaurant I would have thought that ours had to serve the entire place. He showed up maybe three times during the entire dinner? All while chatting with the table behind us for hours. The difference was so stark, it made me super uncomfortable. A very sweet lady who picked up our table when his shift was over is the only reason I am giving them an extra star. And he did not even tell us he was leaving - professional faux pas for which I have no tolerance. read more

Five stars across the board! As with any Michelin starred restaurant the best thing about the meal was the overall experience. The pace of the meal, which at first appeared a bit rushed, was superb. Around our 13th or 14th dish I glanced at my watch and was shocked at how much time had actually passed, I mentioned it to my dining mate and he too couldn't believe we had been there so long. We had the Autumn tasting menu, adding the USA beef and sweetbreads to the mix. Each dish was exquisitely prepared. Even the smoked eel, which I was not looking forward to because I tend to dislike eel, was excellent! It was actually one of my favorites. Other standouts were the cauliflower, sweetbreads, beef (which came with bone marrow filled ravioli!), duck and the "carrot cake" dessert. Everything about the meal was perfect. The staff was very efficient, while still being friendly and accommodating. Ron Blaauw is fully deserving of it's two Michelin stars and my five Yelp stars. read more

We were shocked when the waiter showed the raw beef in front of us, it was a huge piece! Recommend to order several small dishes only if you are going in two persons. I'm all for fine dining, because I, like many here, really enjoy great, no- excellent food. So colour me surprised when I finished my meal that I was just feeling a little meh. And I get it, it's a "gastrobar" but when you're paying these prices, you expect service to be top notch and your food to be well thought out. Alas, neither of these were up to par. We ordered a bunch of little plates, quite a few cocktails between us, and wrapped it up with the most incredible dessert, which you can see from many reviews and photos.. it's Ron's Egg! And my word, it was amazing. If I had known how good it was, I would have ordered 7 of these and been done with it. It was honestly my most favourite thing of the evening, followed veryvery closely by their Rhubarb Amsterdam cocktail. Which.. oddly, had no rhubarb in the actual drink! All in all.. this restaurant will not be making the cut for places I need to visit again. Unless someone else is picking up the tab or giving me food for free. We were in Amsterdam on a family trip with some family living in Holland and my mom accompanying us. We made reservations at Ron for Mother's Day. Upon arrival at the restaurant we were greeted warmly and escorted to our table. There were balloons and bouquets of tulips at the seats for the moms - a very thoughtful touch! There is a fantastic selection of cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages and wines by the glass or bottle. Service was attentive and friendly without overdoing it. The food!!! My gluten-free needs were met easily - gluten free bread was provided and the cultured butter with nuts & bacon along with spicy/sweet/sour gherkins the perfect accompaniment. My boyfriend and I shared the scallop tartar with foam of potato & Beemster cheese with hibiscus powder, pan-fried halibut with salsify, Gruyere, & butter vinegar sauce, & the cauliflower braised in butter with black pudding & Pierre Robert cheese. The presentation of the food was so beautiful it was a thing of art. The flavours and textures melted together as though they were made to be matched. The plates are small but very rich so we left feeling satisfied but not too full. One of my top 10 meals, for sure! read more
