a cow on top of a building

Romy's is a cross between an old fashioned supper club and a banquet hall. Who wouldn't want to try a joint that displays a giant replica of a cow mounted on the rooftop. The restaurant has a large bar area where you can have the WI classic old fashioned before your meal. We visited here on a Sunday during brunch which is done buffet style. I think the buffet style all you can possibly stuff yourself with may be Romy's niche. I presume they offer individual to order dinners on other days/nights but I say this with uncertainty. The buffet included broasted chicken, ham & beef tips with mashed and roasted potatoes. There was a fairly large salad bar and dessert bar. There was also cold cut ham for sandwiches, which was a surprise to me for this type of buffet. Being a Sunday morning /afternoon I was a little disappointed there was not any breakfast offerings (bacon, eggs, pancakes). I didn't particularly care for how the dining process is set up. You have to purchase a ticket from the bartender to be able to eat. You then give the ticket to a person by the buffet who makes a mark on your hand with a marker to show you've paid. Once you seat yourself at one of the many banquet tables a server brings you a pitcher of water. If you want anything else to drink at the table other than coffee or water you have to pay for that separately from your original ticket purchase. The food was plentiful and each offering was properly warm/hot. The chicken was tender and flavorful. Brunch tickets for two adults came to $25.00. I will likely return but it's not one of those at the top of my priority to stop type places.

This has become a family tradition for a great Thanksgiving meal. We come every year for lunch. The buffets are always full including the desserts! The kids love the ice cream machine and we love the variety. I can't wait to come back for Friday Fish Fry.

The goods!

We eat here maybe 6 times a year. It's good. Not not five star but it's for sure a place we come back to.

Quaint restaurant/bar/ballroom. Great job on fried fish. Sides were good but not great. Excellent price for what you get and a full bar.

The wedding had a great taco bar at the end of the night and had Spotted Cow on tap.

I had high hopes for this newer restaurant in downtown Menasha. I was disappointed. It feels like…read morethis place wants to be upscale, but they failed on many levels, most notably the attitude of the front end staff. I could overlook or even forgive a single person who might be having a bad day, but we had negative experiences with 3 individuals. I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening with a small group of friends. We had a reservation for a table indoors, but were still considering the rooftop seating. When the first member of our group arrived, an employee was standing at the hostess stand but walked away without greeting her. It was not busy. Nobody else was waiting. She did not leave to go seat another party. She just walked away. This was the first moment of awkwardness. The menus: Before arriving, some of our group had looked at the regular menu and others had looked at the rooftop menu online. There was some confusion about why we couldn't order an item from the rooftop menu. (As I recall, the item in question was a flatbread available on the lunch menu for the regular dining room, but not on the dinner menu.) We were told that we would need to move to the rooftop if we wanted that item. Everything about the server's posture, facial expression including a visible eye roll, and even a loud sigh was very offputting from the start. We considered leaving before we even ordered our food, and in hindsight that may have been a better decision. Ultimately, we decided to stay and dine indoors, on the lower level at a table near a window looking onto the sidewalk. This may have been another mistake. It was very warm and stuffy. Even though there were only two other groups of people inside, it was so loud I could hardly hear people talking at my own table. I ordered the Agave Lime Chicken. It was good but not great. Two members of our party ordered flatbreads; two others ordered chicken tenders. This was where our evening really took a turn. On one of the flat boards used to serve the flatbread, there was a very small dead bug. It was a light gray-green color and so small that we weren't sure at first if it was a bug or a piece of some herb. We zoomed in on a phone camera and confirmed that it was indeed a dead bug. The member of our party who ordered this item had eaten one piece of her flatbread and was no longer interested in eating the rest. She did not want a box. She just wanted it taken away. The reaction of the staff was shocking. After clearing the board, one member of the staff returned and remarked that they were "still trying to find that bug." My jaw dropped at her tone - it was incredibly unprofessional. Thankfully, we had a picture. Another member of the staff came back to look at the photo as well, claiming that they could find no bug. They removed the meal from our bill, which is all I would really expect. I would still have considered returning another time if it had not been for the attitude and attempted gaslighting.

The rarity time off we snuck over here and could not have been more impressed! Very much a unique place in Appleton but takes you to a big city like NYC or Portland. The vibes, decor, overall environment was welcoming. Food was delicious! We got BYO omelette and Cheese risotto cake with braised beef short ribs. Both were cooked to perfection and flavors aplenty. Not overly salted which many places can be. The perfect portion size that we didn't even need to take anything to go. Honestly impressed. Even more cool is they try to source ingredients locally when they can so it's helping our community. Very excited to have found this place and will be back for more! We did try some of their specialty drinks and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu whenever we get the chance. We came back for a second visit fairly quickly because we kept thinking about the food! We got some breakfast bowls and added protein to it. Again, this place did not disappoint in the slightest! Happy eating!
