Our condo was flooded by a small fire/sprinkler release in the unit above ours on June 1, 2025. Romexterra responded the same day with an extensive remediation effort. Their pack out team was efficient and responded quickly when we needed items in storage. I commend Jason Ibarra, the manager for this response. Based on their quick and professional remediation, we went with them for the rebuild. I particularly want to commend our project manager, Patrick Fitzmaurice, who has been with us every step of the way, including dealing with insurance adjusters, city builiding officials and subcontractors. I want to share my experience to warn others about the deceptive business practices of Romexterra. During the very first visit--before any work had been done--Michael Guimond, their representative, asked me twice to leave a review for the company. That alone should have been a red flag. Michael Guimond assured me that both the water mitigation and bathroom reconstruction would be fully covered by my homeowner's insurance. At no point was there any discussion about the possibility of the claim being denied. He even stated that Romexterra is a "preferred vendor" for State Farm, reinforcing the idea that the work would be covered. He pressured me into authorizing immediate service, claiming that any delay could jeopardize the insurance claim. He called it an "emergency" service--even though the leak only occurred when the shower was in use, and it was not an active emergency. Fast forward: the insurance claim was denied, and Romexterra is now billing me over $3,000 just for water mitigation. To make matters worse, they added late fees while the claim was still being processed. On top of that, their crew caused over $13,000 worth of damage to my basement by carelessly removing drywall, bathroom tiles, and even cutting out the shower pan--which never should have been removed in the first place. I will be filing formal complaints with consumer protection agencies and strongly urge others who have had similar experiences to do the same. Companies like Romexterra should be held accountable for misleading and pressuring homeowners with false promises. read more

Took down our paneling by sawing it in half so we couldn't put it back together.when I called Walter , he didn't return my call. They charged $2750.00 and spent less than an hour all together. Negative experience... I needed them to evaluate the ceiling stain on our master bath ceiling and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, FIND THE ROOT CAUSE AND EVALUATE REMEDIES. 1. They scheduled a visit/assessment/estimate for 12-2 PM, but on the day of appointment Michael called me asking to come much earlier, which I could not do, and we rescheduled. No problem, real-life situation, happens to all of us. 2. New appointment: Walter showed up on a rainy day (wet outside) and started marching into our hard-floor living room, and to my request to remove his shoes he resentfully replied, "Can't do it, slip-and-fall hazard." I asked if he had the shoe covers (that all servicemen have... in decent, reputable companies), but he replied, "Not anymore!" Luckily, I had my own, and he "kindly and gracefully" agreed to put them on. 3. He quickly gave his $1,400 estimate to cut out a piece of ceiling drywall (apx. 3x3') and clean it up, not replace or paint it afterwards, only cut out and leave. He then "kindly and gracefully" reduced his estimate to $1,200. I showed him a photo - no mold, just a small condensation stain. My handyman told me he'd cut out the drywall for $50 and then clean, replace, and repaint for another $50-75. 4. I told him that I have to discuss it with my wife and get back to him/them, but he pressed, "You can do it now while I am here." This is the pressure at its rudest/worst. 5. Next day the fist guy, Michael, called again asking if he could come earlier than 12-2. It turned out he mixed up the dates and called about the previous appointment he could not make on time. OK, no problem, they are confused, but this did me no harm. 6. Next day I received a survey from their 3rd party, but the survey link did not open, bad link. I e-mailed (forwarded that survey e-mail) to their rep, Ashley twice, but... Luckily, there are other choices for this service, NOT Romexterra. read more

Everything was covered and secured as repairs took place, after they were finished anything that had been moved was returned to its place. Working with this company was an absolute nightmare. I have other projects that they could have worked on on my property and they absolutely will not be getting a cent more of my money. They were uncommunicative at every single turn. I repeatedly asked the remediation team to simply close my front and back door and they continued to leave them open which resulted in me having to keep my pets closed in my bedroom for multiple full days. The rebuild team was extremely uncommunicative I had to call, text and email multiple people for days to get any information about when they might even be able to start rebuilding a room that I had told them was a rushed project. To be clear, if they would have said they were extremely busy but they could come and do work on specific days that would have been fine, I understand that. Instead when I finally was able to speak to someone they repeatedly told me they would be coming by only to show up multiple hours late or not at all without informing me of a delay. When they did come they told me they would be back to do the work sometime that week and they would let me know on Sunday. They did not let me know on Sunday and on Tuesday when I contacted them they frustratedly told me that they had told me they would be doing the work on Wednesday which they absolutely did not. They came and worked Wednesday and Thursday and then just did not tell us if they were done. They contacted us Sunday to ask us when they could come back and said they needed just one more day to finish it. We asked them why they didn't tell us and their response was that they came Sunday and no one was home. They showed up to our home without contacting us while we weren't home and didn't tell us. When we asked when they would be back they said Monday and would not give a specific time. I finally called them and they said between 8-9 and of course they were an hour late. Midway through the day they said they would be done at 5. At 6:15 they said they would have to come back tomorrow and we said no and just asked them to leave. The workers were nice but the company has been a horrible. Never again. read more

The first restoration company was a bust with slow response, incomplete assessment, and failure to contact our insurance company. We then called Romexterra. They were most responsive and worked with our insurance claim handler. We scheduled the work to be done while on vacation. The work was perfection. No one could do a better job. read more

When making large, important purchases I wait prior to reviewing. Owning a small business, it is understandable that snags often arise. It is what the company chooses to do when something that comes up that makes a difference. I would give zero stars if possible. In March 2020, we had a house fire in which we hired Romexterra to do the cleanout and roofing. The roof job included replacing framework over my son's bedroom where the fire started. (a laptop battery exploded..the hot gel caught his mattress on fire.) Less then 2 years later, we had a decent sized leak in our living room from the roof. Initially, Romexterra's response was quick. They were out right away, gave us a reason - there was no silicone put over the nails on the shingles in that area. We had thought it was fixed. Several months later, the leak was worse - destroying one of our brand new walls in our living room - along with moisture stains in our kitchen and living room ceilings. (These areas now have large holes from the equipment they brought marked with gaudy red tape that they just left). Called again, they were quick to come out and bring rental equipment. Eddie told us that he was surprised that there was no follow up on their end after the initial leak and that the equipment would be gone in about 2 weeks. This was right before Christmas. My husband received a call from Alex right away who was argumentative, stating that we did not pay for the roof work in that area. The shingles were there prior to them working on the roof. Contacted Farmers Insurance who provided a copy of the contract - we paid for the entire square footage of our roof. We have a tiny home. Also, luckily for us, my husband is our history tracker through photos. We have photos of the roof prior to the fire - no shingles in that area. Now let me explain about this area. We have a modified bitment - which is a flat area - separate from the main shingled area of the home - which is designed to allow water to flow off the roof. When reviewing youtube videos after this incident, the first enormous no no that non experienced roofers make is putting shingles in this area. The rain water collects, pools and has no where to go. Romexterra put 1 single patch of shingles in this area. We were now getting the run around from Romexterra. Alex was not returning calls. My husband had to file a police report to get the equipment out of our home after almost 2 months. Again, this is rental equipment that Romexterra enjoys additional revenue from. We were not able to use the back portion of our home for the holidays - or in general. Cold, loud, noisy. We were paying additional heating and electric for this "privilege". We found out through our village, that the permit that Romexterra tried to pull for the roofing was denied because they are not - or do not use - licensed roofers. Unfortunately due to Covid, the Village did not contact us - which is another problem. And of course Romexterra failed to mention this fact, and took our cash. Over $40k later (in roofing work alone, not counting the $ spent on cleanout); and they still refuse to come out take the shingles off that portion of the roof and fix their mistake - both outside and in. We have heard all the bs excuses from Alex. Including that the frame work was faulty. Now again, Romexterra did the roof frame job. We also had an independent contractor come out and inspect - frame work is fine. It is the shingles in the incorrect location. We also found out that we are not the only victims of their crappy workmanship and lack of professionalism by reading reviews on BBB. This fix would have likely cost them less then $1k to fix. Instead, they want to blow us off, creating another financial strain for us by having to spend several more thousand to fix what they should have taken care of in the first place. Unfortunately, Dupage has no regulations to go after contractors that do this. Although it makes no sense, to not protect homeowners against the increasing number of contractors practicing the same. Which bogs down the court system. And they know it..that's why it's better to blow us off. (have started to push for a change in this). This company is nothing more then ambulance chasers. I could go on about how they hold personal items hostage after cleaning.. Wanted to post this so that others do not make the same costly mistake that we had by choosing this company. In our business, we have sometimes taken a loss when fixing our mistakes with customers. May have affected profit margins at the time, but it most certainly expanded our customer base because we stand by our work. Please use caution if hiring. Also, know that their 5 star rating on Facebook is only thanks to false reviews thanking someone for investment advise. This becomes more of a joke all the time... read more

We moved into a new home and almost immediately noticed issues with our skylights leaking. We also know a re-roof is in our not-too-distance future so we decided to get some quotes for both projects. After a few quotes and weighing our options, we we elected to go with Romexterra - even though they were more expensive that any other quote and were well above what our insurance company was covering. The work the crews did to replace skylights and repair drywall was overall good quality. Working with the office and at least some project managers can be extremely painful. After agreeing to move forward with repairs, it took more than a month to get the crew out to complete exterior project even though for several weeks we were promised it would be "next week." It took asking whether we needed to find another company to do the work to get our project prioritized. Once they were here, the crew completed a portion of the work. They left trash on the deck and in the yard, but honestly it was pretty minimal and I was just happy to have the work done. Then I realized they had neglected to complete a portion of the work and I had to connect with the PM to have the crew return to complete the additional work, which was another week week. In the end, we opted not to do one part of the project which was only cosmetic. Then the interior team project manager then came out. He worked quickly to get the crew out and prioritize the work. Once work was finally completed, I was sent the wrong statement based on the work we had completed on the exterior. Again - crews seemed to do good quality work, but getting them here was difficult and there seem to be breakdowns in communication between the PMs and the office. read more

Our sump pump failed overnight flooding our basement. The entire carpeting had standing water and it flowed into 3 different storage closets soaking the tile and shelving. The team was so responsive and while they couldn't get a restoration crew immediately, they came by to stabilize with a dehumidifier and fans. Then just a few days later Huriel and Felipe and their team came and got everyone out that was damaged. They were speedy, thorough, and so nice. Romexterra did excellent job restoring my basement when it flooded. 1. On time delivery (basement had to be ready by Super Bowl Sunday and they were done by Thursday). 2. Came when they said they would. 3. Responded to emails and calls within a few hours at most, if not immediately, even on weekends. 4) Left clean workspace; tidy. 5) Accommodating to reasonable last minute requests and changes. 6) Was updated to changes in costs, etc daily. No surprises. Finally- the staff were genuinely nice. It was very easy to work with Sean, Igor (new but very responsive) and Javier (easy to with with). I'd work with them again! read more

I want to start off by saying that I hate doing one star reviews and knocking a company online. That being said, they really do deserve it. Back in February during the wonderful freeze, we had a frozen pipe burst. We called Romexterra and were told that they would be out within a couple hours. SEVEN hours later they show up- no calls from them to warn me they'd be late, I had to keep calling to find out if/when they would come. Seven hours of my stuff sitting soaking wet and standing water still streaming down through the floors into the basement playroom. They started the drying process later than initially thought. It was two days later that they put the fans in and told us they would leave them on for 3 days.... then 3 more days... then 5 more days. 2 weeks of fans blowing at $190/fan/day. Between the many fans and housing my family of 5 for that length of time, it was a fortune. They kept insisting they could get the wood floors and sub floors dry. While I believe that is true; at some point, the cost of just getting new flooring is less expensive than their fans running (to be fair, this is also the fault of the insurance adjuster who should have put a stop to this). The packing up our things was around $7400 more (that was after talking them down a little.) The explanation (for what seemed exorbitant to us) was they had to catalog and document everything. For the most part, our things were basically thrown into boxes, and even several of the things that were bubble wrapped were broken. They did replace the stemware that they broke and fixed my dining table that they broke the leg off of. Additionally, the cost of just bringing my things back from their warehouse was $3200. Our insurance refused to pay for them to put everything back where it was originally because they deemed it "excessively expensive," especially since they said this was one of the most expensive clean ups they had ever had. Romexterra basically held our things ransom, refusing to bring us our stuff until they could reach an agreement with our insurance, which prevented us from moving back in. After an agreement was made, after several additional days of living in a hotel, they literally just piled all our things in their designated rooms- 3-4 boxes high! They brought the smallest things first! So, fitting the furniture in was quite a feat! It was more stress than was necessary, on top of an already very stressful situation. I am aware that I wasn't the easiest customer. But, I felt taken advantage of and was displaced from my home for two months while everything was being put back together. I don't feel like I was out of line when they were basically in control of all my family's things. Please do use another company. read more

I recently had a situation where a drunk driver destroyed our associations retaining wall and my garage door and personal possessions. Our HOA called them got emergency cleanup. I had spoken to another vendor who was able to board up my garage door fir $500. However, he couldn't do the necessary cleanup. Since Romexterra was already there they said they could board up for $1,500. They said the cleanup would be billed to HOA. Then they insist I sign a blank contract with nothing filled out. i did not feel comfortable doing that but had little choice as it needed to be done ASAp. So they send me a bill about a week later for over $3,500. Not even close to the price I was quoted. They jacked up the bill and had the audacity to charge me for the service call which the HOA called in. Then they added additional charges that were never discussed. If you ever use this company get everything in writing before doing any work with them. $3,000 to board up a garage door. highway robbery. read more

In addition, they have been very helpful over the last couple of years in providing me with the names of the products that we selected (for example, I was looking for the name of the flooring we selected as I couldn't find and they dug up the invoice and texted it to me). I was out of town and found out from my neighbor that I was coming back to a flooded basement in my house after heavy rains in my town. I was able to connect with the Romexterra team to arrange for them to meet me at my house when I got back home. Cris met me that evening, assessed the situation and brought a crew out the next morning. Cris, Dan and Joey did a great job getting all of the wet carpet and padding out of the house and moving my furniture to dry areas. We are now in the drying and phase of this mess with all of the equipment running and will then begin the reconstruction process soon. The Romexterra team was very easy to work with and addressed my water flooding situation very diligently. I've had many home repairs done and no one has been as great as Romexterra. They were quick to respond to my quote request and getting an estimate to me in the same day. The estimate was very reasonable. I called to schedule the work, thinking it would take a week to get them to come over, but they were available to come in just 3 days! Cris stopped over the day before to look at what materials he would need to purchase so when he and his team showed up the next morning they were ready to jump in. David, Manuel and Cris are the prefect trio. They work hard and seem to have fun with each other. The work they did to my water damaged ceiling was seamless. They had to remove a 8x8 chunk of the ceiling, replace a pipe that had a hole, clean out all of the mold infested insulation, replace everything, mud, sand, paint- and they did this all in 2 days. Romexterra Construction downers grove came to my home in on February 1 after my water pipe busted the night before although when I called on January 31 and explained by situation that I have the main water line cutoff in my 3 unit building meaning we have no water whatever in the whole building now they assured me that they will be at my home by 8 am and the plumber would be fixing my pipe and my water will be restored immediately so I am like great. At 8 am no show we called Romexterra they were like someone will be there within an hour and a half I said okay the plumber will be here right!! They no our project manager will come to see what is needed to be done. I said excuse me I need a plumber to fix my pipe right away so my building can have water. So at that time I called a plumber and one was able to get to my home within 45 minutes before Romexterra project manager showed up. At that time when the project manager came he said another crew will be here today to bring blowers to dry out between the walls and cut out all wet drywall and next the construction side will come in and immediately installed new drywall and paint and etc. well it took 3 more days for that crew to come and bring blowers in next they brought the blowers in and never returned until a month later to pickup their blowers and at that time they wanted to schedule the new installation of drywall so of course at this time I am saying no way with I continue with this company and they had the nerve to bill my insurance company 1350.00 for basically tearing up my room and leaving an exterior wall exposed which ended up costing me a fortune with my heating bill. When you go through extreme circumstances such as the very brutal cold with pipes busting the last thing anyone needs is a company to take advantage of them like Romexterra done me. So I hope and pray that any company that operates in this matter is exhausted from performing unnecessary and bad work in anyone's home. This company had the nerve to leave a message on my phone service saying they will put a lien on my property and at this time Romexterra hadn't even billed my insurance or me talking about a company being professional. If my grandmother wasn't on her death bed I would have taken the time to get attorney and file a claim against their work negligence.. read more

A colleague referred me to this company after my basement flooded this summer. Scheduling them to come out was a bit challenging since they had so many customers in a similar boat as us, all at once - I guess that's the nature of this business. Communication with the owners/managers and their responsiveness was good so to me that makes up for taking a few extra days to get the work scheduled. Cris did the initial walk-through to assess the damage and provide an estimate. He did a great job and is such a kind person - he made us laugh despite the stress of the situation and was generally a pleasure to work with. Cris and team did a great job with the water mitigation work, tearing out our ruined carpet and drywall and de-humidifying the basement with these huge industrial fans and application of a mold inhibitor. Once we were all dried out, David and Manuel did a meticulous job with the restoration (putting in new drywall and painting), which was a several days long process. Every single one of the guys this company sent out were very professional, respectful of our home and did great work. We stumbled on an electrical/wiring problem the day after the job was finally complete, and Cris came right back out to us with an electrician that day and solved it for us immediately.
