My husband and I stopped here to grab drinks and an appetizer to kill some time before our following appointment. I will admit it was a very good margarita, but what kind of offset my mood was that we had to pay $6 for a bowl of salsa. Most of the Mexican restaurants around here salsa is placed on your table, and then you order queso or guacamole for purchase. It wasn't a large bowl of salsa either...next time I'll spend the extra $1 and order queso. On the other hand, our server was super friendly and provided great service so it's hard to not be too negative based on price of salsa. I always smile but he always seems to be in a bad mood. Front people should be friendlier I think. The tiny carafe of bean dip was overwhelming with a dried chili flavor that was not pleasant, the same sized cheese sauce was gelatinous and inedible. Every single item was based on boiled low-quality ground beef which lacked seasoning, disgusting. I have no idea how anyone can eat this slop at this price point. Every item ordered was a disaster. I have a lot of nostalgia for Romeos. Where else can you get nachos and pizza? After a long day out we decided to stop in for a quick meal. Of course, we started off with chips and cheese. The cheese sauce here is super addictive and honestly the reason I stop in a few times a year. It was just as I remember and an excellent start. I wasn't feeling Tex-Mex so I got pizza. While it's not the best pizza in town, it's still respectable The cheese is quality and the pepperoni is served crispy. My fiancé got the fajita taco salad. The steak was in large chunks and hard to eat in the salad. She had to take it out and cut it on the plate. It was more hassle than it was worth. Next time she will get ground beef instead. Overall, while the atmosphere is a bit dated, the food is decent to good and your bill is never high. read more

For some reason enthuse establishments love seating the folks eating alone in the back corner next to the restroom and this was no acceptation. After looking over the menu I choose the chili rellenos with green chili . I asked for a side of corn tortillas and the gentleman said they don't have corn tortillas! What kind of Mexican restaurant is this??? Already lead to a disappointing start of my lunch. No free chips with your food which is also a let down. The chili relleno itself was ok but it had a cheddar cheese sauce in it instead. Definitely not real Mexican food . Sorry what's wrong I don't know it's not what is it normally like well not cheddar cheese it's Mexican cheese or chili in it well the white queso and a key so I can oh definitely not traditional . Another visit late on a Tuesday night. Not swamped but plenty of customers. We got a quick and friendly greeting. We were seated quickly, and our server was right there. We were asked if we wanted any appetizers, which we declined, but then we placed our order right away. The food came fast. Our orders were correct, and the food tasted great. This my favorite Romeos as it's the most updated and largest layout. The service is perfect for quick lunches. I've met many a friend, significant other and dine in with co workers over the lunch hour. The food is always the same, best soft shell taco in town and the cheese is never short of liquid gold. I also really really love their pizza. I encourage at least of one my children to order it when coming in with them so I can have their left overs. I hadn't been to a Romeo's in probably 20+ years, but I ended up here and have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. For one, my expectations were admittedly pretty low. I still remember 12-year-old me not being impressed by Romeo's. But when you take it for what it is--a family-friendly spot for greasy food--I can see the appeal. I ordered #3 lunch combo with one beef, one carnitas, and one chicken taco. The fried flour shells were pretty excellent. The meat had minimal seasoning and the salsa had very little spice. So everything was, you know, a bit bland, but that's what I was planning on. Honestly, the tacos were pretty good. Also tried the chips and cheese dip. They tasted exactly how they sound. Now I wouldn't go out of my way to return to Romeo's, whether this location or another. But if I had an invite to dine with some friends here, I'd be on board. read more

I rarely stop in to Romeo's anymore as it seems the quality just isn't what it used to be. I realize this is just a step above fast food, but things just aren't what they use to be. Tacos and chips are okay but what I truly loved years ago was their cheese and onion enchilada. In years past they were gooey and creamy with cheese inside and plenty of onions. Love the salsa they make and i put it on top of the enchilada. Over the past 2 years I've been in twice and the cheese and onion enchilada seems to be made with cheaper cheeese. It's no longer gooey and creamy, but chunky and super chewy. This last order was to go so I even microwaved it to where it was bubbling, but still was hard to cut into it and the cheese just too chewy. Ok, I'm Mexican American from California. Somehow i ended up in Omaha and was super hungry and googled Mexican restaurant. This one was nearby so I gave it a try. NO. This is the most disappointing fake mexican restaurants ive ever visited. I get asked by my waitress what I would like to drink and I said Horchata which is the #1 drink of Mexicans or at least well known and she had no clue what I was asking. At that moment I wanted to leave but we had a long trip ahead so I didn't. Went along to order a carne asada burrito but it was a "beef burrito". A carne asada burrito has rice, beans, cheese, and the meat. As you see in the picture that is not it. I really wanted to speak to the manager but my cousin didn't let me. I didn't want to argue but as someone who belongs to the Mexican culture, this is disappointing and appropriating our food. There are so many white people that I saw come in and I hate having to think that they go home really thinking this is Mexican food. I should have known the moment I saw burgers, sandwiches and pizza on the Mexican menu that it was time to exercise some serious expectation management. I told myself after I sat down that the food quality was likely going to be poor and I was not let down. It was pretty atrocious. Lets start off with the authentic "queso". Consistency and taste was that of processed cheese such as Velveeta but likely an off brand. Think gas station nacho cheese or movie theater variety. Chips and "Hot Sauce" Sauce served in a pancake syrup style dispenser. Chips appear to be taken from the bag and thrown in the oven to warm them up. Cheese enchilada. Greasy, chili con carne also suspect to have recently emerged from a can. This enchilada was basically cheese rolled up in a soggy, greasy flour tortilla (sacrilege to true enchilada aficionados) and thrown in the warmer to melt the cheese on top Soft Taco. I am not sure where they keep the secret deflavorizor 5000 machine, but it was definitely used on my taco. Despite having taco meat, cheese, and the fixings, it was dry and flavorless. The waitress described the shell as lightly fried to a crisp but it was more like dipped in grease and served up cold. I took a bite from both ends and left it alone after that. The Tamale with red and green chili. This could have been something decent if it were not for the massive amount of masa (tamale outer layer) that was covering a very small amount of filling. I picked some of the masa off and it was edible but only because I was absolutely starving. Service: Not bad, but not good either. Didn't see waitress again after she dropped off the plates. Maybe they know the food is mediocre and stay away so they don't have to hear it firsthand? There was nobody in the joint so I know it wasn't because she was busy. I recommend you steer clear of Romeo's unless you like mediocre Mexican food, poor service and indigestion. read more

The service here was fast and friendly. You will notice that they call themselves a "Mexican restaurant", but the food is worse than Taco Bell. It's baby food bland. The salsa is less tasty than Ketchup. Tasteless, bland. The taco, the beef burrito, the enchilada was tasteless horrible. I complained and both the manager and our waitress gave the same lame excuse: "This is not a Mexican restaurant...it's TexMex". Well, I've eaten TexMex in Texas many times, and I promise you, it's not TexMex. If you like your Mexican food authentic, flavorful, and tasty, savory, do not waste your time here. If I could give zero stars, I would. My family and I are traveling from Wisconsin to Colorado and stopped in Omaha for the night and decided to stop at Romeo's for dinner. Google showed they had good reviews and had multiple locations... they must be really good? Wrong. I am not one to typically leave bad reviews but, the food was close to inedible. Taco Bell has better tasting food. I would rather eat a week old Taco Bell taco that was on the ground than to ever eat here again. Not only was the food room temperature, our order was messed up and we barely saw our server, so even if we wanted to say something we couldn't. Everything is from a can and while not always bad, this definitely doesn't do their food quality any justice. Seeing that a Mexican restaurant serving pizza should have been the first red flag. 0/10 Do not go here, don't even think of giving them the benefit of a doubt. Being from Indiana I am familiar with the idea of "local Mexican", mean Mexican food that is changed a great deal to fit local taste. Romeo's plays the role of Nebraska Mexican perfectly. My wife is originally from fro Omaha so we often make trip here to visit her father. She always makes sure we make 1 stop here before we head home to Indy. It is a pretty neat little place with some tasty food. I am a fan of their "quesadia" which is a hard taco crust with cheese and meat on top resembling a Mexican pizza from taco bell only prepared from much better ingredients. The rest of the food is typical for a Mexican restaurant although not spicy enough for my pallet. Bottom Line: Very affordable and a great value. If you like Mexican you will enjoy Romeo's. It is also tamed down enough for those who like a safer dining experience. It might even be a nice introduction to Mexican food for kids or reserved eaters. read more

Romeo's is one of my son's favorite restaurants. With that being said, he only eats the pizza and fries. I definitely know what to expect when I go to this place. Great service always and standard Americanized Mexican. They also can always be counted on for fast service. They have great lunch specials. I get the 3 soft shell tacos (which are the best thing on the menu in my opinion) in your choice of meat for $6.69. I always get chicken, which is more of chunky chicken in a green chili verde type sauce, with no tomatoes. It is a good deal for the size of the tacos. They have two different types of sauce. The server will usually only bring you the hot one. They do have a more mild one if you ask for it. read more

Half of the people I was with have been or are servers, including myself, so we understand what it's like to be a server. We empathize that you make $2 an hour and that you have to deal with rude people on a daily basis. But you HAVE TO have customer service and personable skills when you work in the service industry. When we asked for our ticket to be split before ordering, our server rolled her eyes at us and hesitantly agreed to it. She was also very pushy when asking if we were ready to order. Let me start by saying I LOVE Romeos food. I typically go to the W. Center location, but L St. Is closer to my work. I decided to have a nice lunch with my mom who is still very leary of Covid and takes precautions. I told her Romeos is good at sanitizing and keeping people apart. When we walked in, my mom took 30 seconds to a minute to decide where she wanted to sit to avoid being near people. As an immune compromised person who needs to be careful with the deadly covid, I thought that was understandable. I guess not to the host, a man with glasses and a pony tail. He stood there with the menus as she decided and when she found a table we sat down, he chucked the menus at us and visibly shook his head violently like we "inconvenienced' him. It frankly ruined the whole me, my mom was so upset by this. Even though our waiter was wonderful this man, who sets the tone as the host, was not. From what I could tell he was a bartender. It's appalling someone would act this way and I was going to bring t to his attention, but he seemed like the type that would have no remorse. We won't be back. Was there yesterday for a birthday dinner for my daughter. If it hadn't been for 3 hungry children would have walked out upon visiting the rest room. Really bad. Ok. Tonight we had a very sketchy experience at the Romeo's on 96th and L Street. Yesterday- Sunday March 10th, 2019 I called to ask if it was ok to bring a cake in for my son's family birthday get together. The person on the phone was SO awesome. To him- 5 stars! I again called this afternoon to give the restaurant a heads up that there would be about 15 people coming in for dinner around 6. I told him that my husband and I (and honestly my brother and sis in law which I didn't mention) have all worked or still work in the restaurant industry, so I felt it was polite to at least call. The man on the phone explained it was first come, first serve, and I said I completely understand. Even if we had to wait it was ok! For him? 4 out of 5! Upon arrival, my Mom had been waiting just a few minutes and witnessed the staff seat the main dining room in an awkward seating arrangement. She said they sat one table in the middle of a bunch of open tables leaving no room to combine seats. The older blonde (manager? older hostess? Not sure, was very short with us and sort of off putting and said it would be 45-60 minutes. Ok. They said the restaurant had just filled up in a matter of minutes. The area off of the bar with the booths had two tables full and the rest was empty. Being have been both of us in management, bar, and service.. even with first come, why wouldn't you seat the empty area knowing a party was coming in? They were discussing it in front of family members that they knew the had a party coming in and then again to me that they knew, but seemed they didn't care. I will admit, I have NEVER gotten to post a bad review about anyone, only 2 times for an excellent review. But tonight I will be honest on here and post a POSITIVE review for Varsity down the street that had only ONE server for the whole place. She rocked it. She tried her hardest communicating with us when she was busy, food rocked, we left her a great tip as we always do because we respect servers, and even left her some cake. Service was terrible last time we were here as well, but we wiped it off. Won't be back to this location. We will just stick to our favorite Romeo's on 144th and West Center. So disappointing.
