Horrible people work here that provide horrible service. I was in Berkeley and my 11-year-old little sister needed to use the restroom. I entered this establishment and asked kindly if she could she use it. I was told that I had to purchase something I get it sometimes that is used as a tool to deter"unwanted" guest from misusing a businesses restroom. I let the person know that I would be willing to make a purchase. I think I was going to buy a banana or something and she informed me that each of us needed to make a purchase. It is very evident that I am with a child, and with a child in need to use the restroom desperately, we walked out of the establishment, and I promised myself that I would never patronize this business again for any reason and I will make it my life's mission to make sure that other people do not this happened on July 23 Early afternoon 2023. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I got two drinks and a bagel here while working across the street during the Sunday street market. I came back in an hour later intending to use the bathroom and then by an almond croissant but the owner or manager came up to me and started yelling and cussing at me accusing me of "using someone else's cup" to use their bathroom?? Dude- like who would even do that? And to get in a customers face and start yelling and swearing at them over using the bathroom? I understand needing to be firm about people coming and using your bathroom especially on a street like telegraph, but you should never storm up to a customer in such an aggressive manner and start cursing at them and hurtling accusations. Also This place is a rip off of Philz so I'd recommend going there anyway. Or Peet's across the street. Don't go here- there are way better business that have actually been in Berkeley a lot longer than this place that actually respect their customers. read more

A great coffee/study spot located on Telegraph only 3-4 blocks from campus! Romeo's offers strong coffee blends and interesting flavor combinations. Although I've never ordered their more intricate drinks from the love potions menu, I had the opportunity to order a multitude of other drinks here, ranging from the iced drinks to their pour-overs. I'd highly recommend their "Liquid Pleasure" or either of their iced drinks (Mocha Decadence or Oh Mint) with a splash of oat milk (+$0.50) and very minimal sugar. Drinks can be a bit on the pricier side, but if you'll be here for a while, I'd definitely say its worth it. Also, as a bonus, I brought my own reusable hydro flask and they only charge for a small. Additionally, they give you a Hershey's kiss with each order--a nice surprise :') There is an abundance of tables and seats, with plentiful natural lighting to border the corner coffee shop. I'd love to see more outlets at Romeo's though. This place is perfect to get some studying or work done, but can also be a great place to catch up with friends or conduct an interview. The background music can be loud for some, but for me, I prefer the white noise of some good tunes. In addition to the drinks, Romeo's offers pastries and sandwiches, so if you plan on staying here all day, you have the option to grab a bite to eat. The baristas are super sweet and friendly and offer bomb recommendations, especially to newcomers. Additionally, you can find the owner supervising and working in the store frequently, and will remember his regulars :') Service is extremely fast, the cafe is aesthetic, minimalistic, and clean, and drinks are made within 2-8 min on average. Overall, a great cafe located very central to this college town, and would definitely be a great local business that we should continue supporting! read more

I used to love Romeo's Coffee, but my last experience was extremely disappointing. I ordered the Scandalous (hot), and a staff member gave me the wrong drink. It turned out to be the Redemption (cold). When I tried to return the drink, another staff member said I already touched it and that Redemption was pretty much the same as Scandalous anyway. Anyway, they took the drink, so I thought they were preparing what I ordered. Instead, they called me back and told me they were giving the same Redemption (cold) but in a bigger cup. Weird and that might have been fine if it tasted good, but it was overly sweet with very little coffee flavor. read more

DONT GO HERE Waited over 25 minutes for my food. Accidentally took someone's drink and then the woman (older woman in her 40s) who made it, didn't make the one I actually ordered because I accidentally took the other one. WHAT...??? She literally asked me a million questions about the drink while making it, not even confirming if I'm the right customer, and then said I took someone else's when she handed it to me. And refused to make the right one for me. She also mentioned how the one I accidentally grabbed, was "DOUBLE the price". Like I care. I would rather get what I ordered then you imply that I'm stealing a drink that, in your opinion, I couldn't afford.. As if I did it on purpose. This place and this woman are ridiculous. would never come again I was going to make this my go-to spot but never mind now. NO WHERE On the sign does it say it was hot. and she kept claiming I knew "cupid's potion" was hot. I was very excited to see that a new coffee shop with lots of study space had opened on Telegraph right on South Side of campus where students can study. Although I discovered this place 3 weeks after opening, it turns out this place is already super duper popular since everyone was scrambling to find a place to study before finals. I first tried to come here on a weekday afternoon but it was completely packed so I went elsewhere. I tried coming again on a Friday evening and the place was almost completely empty. The seating here looks really comfy and they have a large variety of seats (but not enough considering their location). Their menu selection was so overwhelming that I didn't know what to get. They had the regular coffee options but they also had a list of different iced drinks that they prepared. I asked the barista what the most popular items were and decided to try Love Potion #9 which had both vanilla and hazelnut flavors. It also came topped with whipped cream and for some reason the barista put whipped cream inside and on top of the straw. The drink itself is also super large so it's well worth your money, and I think it's cute that they also gave a chocolate kiss paired with all of their drinks. Unfortunately, the coffee here is just not good. It had a strange after taste and tasted like very cheap quality coffee. I would not come back here for the drinks but I would come back to maybe sit around and study with a snack. read more

AS GOOD AS IT GETS, INDEED! This coffee shop has been open so far for only 15 days and yet it is incredibly booming! This has been on my radar for awhile now and I must say, I am impressed! Their espresso machine is impressively Victoria Arduino--a distinction from its counterpart cafes which all have the same standard espresso machine (that is significantly cheaper than this one)! Their coffee grinder is Nuova Simonelli, and yes girl, I know my coffee! These brands signal something: they take their coffee quality seriously! When I ordered, I was having a hard time choosing from the interesting variety of beverages they offer! But a kind-stranger-customer-turned-friend (who happens to be a fellow UC Berkeley student), helped me out! Their most popular drink here is the "Intoxicated."Alternatively, I ordered the "Oh Mint Where Art Thou" and paired it with a chocolate chip cookie, and I think it was a good pairing. The drink is EXCELLENT! It's comparable to Philz' Mint Mojito but it has flavor tones that are distinct! They're similar but different, ya know what I'm saying? It feels like a safehouse from the hustle and bustle of Telegraph Ave. Inside is lit up bright with natural light, a mellow music playing pleasantly, a unisex restroom, some varied pastry in their case, and friendly efficient staff! There's plenty of seats and tables, some charging outlets available, free wi-fi, and so yes, it is conducive for either studying or hanging out. Coffee: I got the "Redemption" which is part of their espresso menu. I didn't really read the menu and description thoroughly, so thought it was going to be more of a latte, but it was an iced drink with lots of whipped cream. When I picked up my drink at the bar, the barista asked if I'd like to try my drink first to see if I liked it. I was so touched that I declined, although I probably should have because it was actually way too sweet. Ambiance: Modern, large open windows for lots of natural lighting. This is a perfect cafe studying. There were mostly college students on their laptops doing work. I also saw a lot of outlets along the wall. Also, the style and layout reminded a lot of Philz. Fantastic coffee, teas, and food items. The main lady that I always see working here is super sweet and accommodating. Food and drinks come out pretty fast, although you may have to wait a bit when it's on the crowded side. I love the table spaces and many outlets to work from. However, the loud (though tasteful) background music and social environment of the cafe can make it difficult to concentrate on studying. I bring noise cancelling headphones! My favorites are the breakfast sandwich, banana toast, matcha lattes, mint coffee, and smoothies. This place has to be one of my favorite coffee shops on southside Berkeley. read more

A great spot to chill or do some light studying. Everything is really clean, well-maintained, and pretty. The music is good but too loud in my opinion and I usually wear earplugs if I actually want to get any work done. The baristas are nice and will give you suggestions on what to order if you've never been before, and all the drinks come with a Hershey Kiss. The coffee is delish - I usually get oat milk lattes. The staff at Romeo's were very welcoming. We went there when it first open so it wasn't too crowded. It's a very spacious cafe with lots of outlets, perfect for studying. The barista was excellent inn helping me decide which drink to order. The ambiance of the cafe was nice with trendy background music and the cafe was very clean. I ordered the divine intervention which is an iced coffee drink with a hint of hazelnut and coconut topped with whipped cream. The drink was delicious and it energized me for that morning study session. The price was extremely good! My 24oz coffee with almond milk was 5 dollars and my plain croissant was 2.50! Definitely cheaper than other coffee shops I've been to in Berkeley. The croissant was warmed up to me and was perfectly crisp on the outside with a buttery and soft inside. Soooo good! This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Berkeley! I think that the vibe is different from other coffee shops in the area. They play old school hip hop on the radio instead of some random elevator music, but you can still put on some headphones if you aren't interested in hearing it. Great spot to head to if you're looking for really strong coffee. I've become immune to weak, watery coffee that's burnt and made poorly, so a lot of places by campus (cough cough Milano lol) are a no-go for me if I want my usual black coffee. I'm not sure what beans Romeo's uses but damn they are strong and smooth!! I've never ordered one of their complicated love potion drinks so can't speak to those, but I highly recommend their black coffee here. They'll charge you for a small if you bring in a personal mug (~$4) and almond/soy milk is an additional $0.50. They also serve lots of pastries and snacks. There's lots of seating and table space with outlets for those who are looking for study spots, but Romeo's also seems like a good place to catch up with a friend. The baristas here are super friendly and willing to make any modifications you need to your drink. I've also always gotten my drinks here within 5 minutes even when there's a line, which I appreciate. read more

I dropped by Romeo's on a sunny Thursday afternoon to grab a quick coffee. It was intriguing to walk in and realize that the entire menu was essentially "love" themed. The drinks all had interesting names and seemed to have their own quirks. They have pour overs, love potions (aka their iced drinks), and then the regular latte/mocha type drinks as well. This is my review after having had a love potion, aka one of their iced drinks. I haven't tried the pour overs yet so I really cannot comment. Let's start with the good things first. The Love Potions are ginormous for the price and you do get a very good portion for the $4.50 price tag. They all have 2 shots of espresso as per the barista's report. I ordered the Love Potion #9 which was good, but very sweet and far from what I was expecting. However, I could really taste the espresso and the hazelnut tones in the drink and enjoyed it. My issue with this drink was that I'd gone in to buy coffee, but essentially ended up with a dessert. The love potions really seem like dessert drinks to me. Maybe I'm boring and old, but I tend to go for lattes at most coffee places and don't really search for a sugar punch in my coffee. Service was somewhat confusing. You order at the bar and then proceed to pay at the counter. This in itself is counter-intuitive to me. The menu, which is displayed on the wall, is quite hard to read due to the small font. You essentially have to squint and look super closely to figure out what goes into the drink that you're ordering. My friend ordered a good 15 minutes before me, but did not receive her drink until after I did because the barista had forgotten about it. It seemed as if she was struggling to keep up with the volume of people in the place as it was just her making the coffee and the manager/owner at the cash register. I know that this is a new place, but they need to develop a better workflow to keep up with more patrons. The cafe interior is really nice. It's spacious and has large windows which allow for tons of natural sunlight. I find it to be more of a hangout space rather than a study space. Overall, Romeo's is new and intriguing. There are definitely a few menu items that I want to try, but I don't think I really look at it as my go to coffee place. read more

The atmosphere at Romeo's is great for studying. Large and small tables make it ideal for studying alone or with a group. Romeo's can get pretty packed (especially during exam season) so you have to arrive pretty early to get a good seat. Large windows provide a lot of natural light and when it gets too sunny in the afternoon, blinds can be lowered to cover the windows. The cushioned seats are super comfy but if you are unlucky, you might have to sit on the wooden benches. Service is great and all of the baristas are very friendly! In addition to serving coffees and teas, there are a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and bottled juices. The wifi has always been pretty reliable! [ Mocha Decadence ] This is my favorite drink here. I love the creamy texture and it is perfect for those who like their coffee sweet! Reminds me a lot of the Mint Mojito at Philz. During the academic year, Romeo's is a packed study spot, so I hadn't bothered to make the trip until this winter break. There's plenty of seating inside, and the huge windows give off great natural light. The baristas were kind and patient while my mom and I debated what to order. We both ended up getting the Screaming Madness pour over with cream. According to its description, the drink includes graham cracker, date, and chocolate notes. Maybe my taste buds aren't perceptive enough to detect each flavor, but it just tasted like good near-black coffee to me. Even though there wasn't much cream (I normally prefer milky coffee), the taste wasn't bitter at all. Maybe it's overrated for the price, but I'd say the place is worth a try. I'd like to come again to order other specialty coffees and enjoy the complimentary Hershey's kiss twith every drink. Update: Came back to try the famous Oh Mint Where Art Thou iced drink and WOW it did not disappoint. Perfect blend of coffee, mint, and cream with a fresh mint leaf garnish. I'd give this place zero stars if I could and they need to be shut down. They had indoor seating with both customers and the staff without masks. This carried on for months until they finally got too many reports. I've also heard that they've been asked repeatedly by consumers in the past to abide by COVID safety procedures and that they ignored the costumers and didn't comply with state or local mandated guidelines. It's simply unfair and audacious for them to put the community at risk when everyone else is trying to do their part ! Review #359 - 2018 I woke up super early so I decided to bug my buddy, Tony, to go grab a hot drink since it was freezing out. We showed up around 9 AM on Saturday, November 17th & there were only a few people inside so I told my 9-year old niece to grab the best seat in the house and wait for us while we placed our orders. I got the large hot chocolate, without whip, and my niece got the small hot chocolate with whip. We both liked our drinks, but it was a little too sweet for me so I ended up drinking just half of mine and tried to pawn the rest of it off to my niece, but she politely denied me. The place is actually very big for a coffee house, which makes it ideal for students to come and study because they offer free WiFi and there are plenty of seats with power outlets to charge your devices. It's very open and modern, not tight and crowded like most small coffee houses. Service was friendly and quick! read more

This is probably one of the most unique cafes near UC Berkeley's campus. There's plenty of great cafes that serve wholesome coffee, but Romeo's really brings some sugar and spice to the coffee scene. I absolutely love their theme, and they incorporate this seductive vampy vibe in every aspect. From music to paintings on the wall and their names for their special drinks. I ordered a tea today because I have a sore throat, but I'm definitely going back for another drink, and next time I'll try their "Rome's Hot Potions". I've been recommended the "glamorous life" which in the drink's description sounds odd, but I've been told it's extremely different and good. My tea is called "good and evil green tea" which is a loose leaf jasmine green tea brewed to perfection by the baristas with some honey. My friend ordered the "it's been so Oo 'long' since I held you" which is their red tea blend. The service here is great, and the baristas are helpful and friendly as well. Overall a great vibe. The only issue I have is the limited seating. It's not the cafe's fault because they actually provide plenty of space to sit and study; there is just a lot of customers here who like to camp, so you're gonna have to come early or wait for someone to leave to get a decent seat. The prices here are average. The special "hot potions" are 1 size and all $5, which sounds like a lot but they sound very fancy and have a lot of ingredients and extra toppings to garnishes. The regular espresso and tea drinks are average $3-$4. It's honestly not bad for a fancy place like this one. I'd recommend to anyone who hates boring cafes, and loves a chill vibe. read more

I don't go to Berkeley, but my friends who go here say they love it and always study here. Overall, give this place 5/5 for sure. This is a coffee shop that recently has started offering up some avo toast, but other than that, it's pastries, some pre packaged oatmeal and fruit. Very modern aesthetic, you will find it perpetually busy with local Cal students working away on their computers. Coffee's come with a kiss - a great tie in on Romeo's Coffee, and a nice little sweet treat. Their speciality coffee's are all sugar laden, chocolatey goodness and if you're into that, you will love it. I however am not, so it's wasted on me. Coffee drinks are not cheap. You're paying close to $4-$5 for a small. Bathroom is code only and wifi code is only given when an item is purchased and paid for.
