Please avoid this hotel at ALL costs. My significant other and I went to check into our room, which I booked six months in advance, to find there was an issue with our room but they were moving us to a "sister hotel" next door. Next door was a ten minute walk, and when we arrived in the new "hotel" you had to buzz to be let in, which strikes me as sketchy and dangerous. They put us in Hotel Porta Pia, which was just not what I booked and paid for. The room was completely run down and looked like it was straight out of the 1930's, without the charm. The man at the front desk last night was very friendly, and I did feel bad complaining to Travelocity because I know it was not his fault. When we complained (and later moved into a new hotel we booked separately) to Travelocity, they spoke to the manager who said our room was "under construction" the first night but they'd be willing to "upgrade" (ie, move us into the room we had booked and paid for in the hotel we paid for) to a room at the hotel we had booked. We took the refund and said hell no. I felt so betrayed as a customer and couldn't help but wonder how scared I would've been had I been traveling alone and put in that position. From reading reviews online after (my mistake, would've never booked had i seen all the reviews) this is common practice. In a search on the hotel later I saw through the Hotel Rome Garden site a room per night was $202, but on other booking apps it was much lower, $50-60. My guess is they put out these cheap advertisements on other sites for $50-60, then move those customers to their lesser hotels (saying there's maintenance going on) and then give the rooms advertised to the customers who book directly and pay the $202. read more
