When I take vacations for sightseeing, exploration, or adventure, I typically only desire a hotel room with basic amenities and a convenient location. A complimentary breakfast is also a nice touch. However, I don't want any temptation to dawdle in the hotel longer than necessary. Luckily, on my recent trip to Rome, my travel company recommended Hotel Homs. It was exactly what I needed.
Located on a charming side street off Via del Corso, Hotel Homs is a quaint, boutique hotel that serves travelers with moderate (and higher) budgets. The hotel is a stone's throw away from the Spanish Steps and the Spagna metro stop, and it is only a few blocks from Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. It is approximately a 30-minute walk from Termini Station, Vatican City, The Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Borghese Gallery, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto. A supermarket, pharmacy, and myriad options for fashion shopping are all in the neighborhood. Via della Vite is host to a number of great eateries, which include the best gelato and prosciutto I had in Rome.
My room at Hotel Homs was exceptionally small - about the same size as my college dorm room was (including the bathroom). I didn't mind the size, as all I wanted to do in the room was sleep and shower. While on the topic of the shower, I am 5'8'' and weigh 140lbs. If I were any bigger, I'd likely not fit in it. This, the low-quality pillows, and the lack of a clothes iron were my only complaints about the room. Hotel Homs does offer a laundry service for an extra charge. I feel it also important to note that the room does contain a safe, which is necessary for the storage of passports, cash, and travel documents. One of my favorite aspects of the hotel was the rooftop terrace. While enclosed (but having an open picture window), it is perfect for enjoying a smoke, adult beverage, or a cup of coffee.
I found the staff at Hotel Homs to be moderately friendly but very helpful. They were quick to print any necessary museum or travel vouchers from emails, and they gave excellent directions. I found that front desk staff were happy to provide concierge services, and their restaurant recommendations were outstanding. The housekeepers were very expedient and diligent in their work. Having an unclean room was never an issue!
Hotel Homs also offers breakfast to their guests from 7:00 AM-11:00 AM daily. While nothing extravagant, eggs, bacon, salami, cheese, fruit, pastries, and various breads provided tasty sustenance for days spent walking and sightseeing. The breakfast is served in a cafe with numerous coffee options included.
Hotel Homs: Thanks for making my stay in Rome pleasant. I would not hesitate to give you my business in the future! read more
