But i have to admit HANDS DOWN this is my favorite place in the world to eat fish and chips. The twin husband and wife team that run this restaurant are extremely friendly and welcoming people. Its a small place that has several sit down tables to dine in. The fish and chips is one you have to try for yourself but for me its a place i crave al year long and a must visit spot when i return to Ireland. If you ever find yourself in the area please visit pipers and when done take a quick stroll next door and have a few pints at The Brooke Irish Pub.

The waitress replied they couldn´t carry on with our order because we hadn´t order a total that covered 9€ each. That non-sense rule made us to discuss about that and the cook just replied it was not a good business to sell 2 pizzas and a coke for 6 people, in a 9-seat table. We felt terrible as we behaved polite and we ordered a rationable amount of food taking into account the time it was (night) and the local was half empty. After arguing and realising there was no more explanation than exclusion by classism, we asked for the complaint form and the only answer we got was: we don´t have that. Anyway, we left really disappointed, being sure we will not repeat in there. For one of the guys in the group, it was the second time she suffered a discrimination like that because of the money you are supposed to spend as a customer in their business.

As we do when traveling, we start and end the day eating throughout the day. We popped into Bunsen to finally try the legendary burger around 4:30 pm. Because we were there at such an odd hour, we were the only people there. When you visit Ireland, the pub culture is real and most pubs start to get quite busy around 5:30 pm. Since Bunsen isn't a pub and wasn't located in a particularly touristy area , it didn't surprise me they were empty at that time of day. What stuck out the most at first was the super friendly service right from the door. We were sat at a small banquet of tables against the wall and checked out the menu from QR code link on the table. We were there for their original burger so that is what we ordered. No sides and water to drink. I couldn't be filling up too much yet. It was pretty early after all and we had a lot of places to stop yet. The menu isn't huge. They focus on doing one thing well and keep it at that. I like a restaurant that doesn't try to be everything. Our burger came out within 10 min and it was juicy, hot and fresh. Presented beautifully wrapped. We shared this one burger because, we knew we had lots of food to eat later. Immediately after eating the last bite I wanted to order another. It was really that good. Such perfection! This will be the burger I compare all others in Ireland to.

We found a parking spot right outside the takeaway at no.3, Fairways Mall -- perfect! -- and, with a bit of manoeuvring, got the campervan into the space, well within the road markings (it's a medium size campervan). With that, a man got out of the car in the next space, and proceeded to lambast me for parking there, saying that I was blocking access to the takeaway. It turned out that he was one of the drivers of the takeaway. I got out and checked, and I had left plenty of room, and told him so; and furthermore, informed him that the campervan was taxed and insured, and that I was fully entitled to park where I was, on the public road. I then asked him why he had not negotiated with me when he first saw my initial manoeuvrings. No response. With that, the lady proprietor of the takeaway came out, and screamed at me to "get that van out of there, it is too big." Attempts at explanation of parking bye-laws were ignored (we would only have been there for the time it took to prepare the meal, after all). All I got was a repeated "Get out, get out", which made me all the more determined to stay put........until my niece told me that her young son was getting an asthma attack, with all the excitement. So, reluctantly, I moved away. Needless to say, I didn't give them my custom after that little episode, and if you are driving in Donabate in a campervan and fancy a Chinese takeaway, my advice is to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other, more welcoming, establishments in the area.
