I love their cinnamon buns but this time I did not order one. My friend and I came here for supper. It was delicous. I had the Red Curry Laksa with prawns, PEI mussels, bok choy, carrots, bell peppers, red onions, vermicelli noodles, red coconut curry sauce, and cilantro. My friend had the falafel and fries. I loved my Red Curry Laksa. It was fresh and rich. Loved the red coconut curry sauce. The seafood was a decent portion. My friend liked her falafal but it definately wasn't the best she has had and was eyeing up my curry. Service was OK. I feel like because we didn't order alcoholic beverages, we didn't get service as much as the tables that did. That won't prevent me from coming here again.

Both were so very tasty, and did not disappoint. The ambiance of the restaurant is different than many places I've gone to. Being close to the University of Alberta main campus, many young students compose the clientele of Sugarbowl, but not limited to. The decor is very nice - brick walls and posters, and hand written beer menu, to name a few. Service was very good, professional, and friendly!! Overall good experience, and will return again in the future.

My wife and I ordered dinner for us and one of our children. She got the lasagna, I ordered the hot chicken sandwich (which came with fries) and my son ordered the maple bacon smash burger which came with fries as well. Portion size was huge, price was absolutely at that sweet spot of value (that's hard these days!) and the flavours were incredible. We topped it off with a maple walnut cheesecake with raspberry compote and a sweet masala drizzle - delivered by the head chef, Jeevan - what a way to end the night! Of course we can't forget the service! Our server, Hayden, was prompt, attentive and very knowledgable of the menu, in spite of the restaurant only being open a few weeks already. Overall, their complete lack of usual "kinks" to iron out when a new restaurant opens seems due to their accountable and personable front-of-house, competent and seasoned kitchen and head chef Jeevan. Definitely no need to wait to go visit them!

We've also almost ate all the meat before rice was provided. Regardless, the food was still good. Ordered fried chicken, spicy pork belly, corn cheese and more and they all tasted great. Ambiance was same as usual. Clean and same with the washrooms

My friend and I came here for dinner before going to a show. I was looking at restaurants along our…read moreroute and Hanjan seemed like a great option. We dined on a Friday around 6pm. The space inside was nice and much bigger than it looked outside. There were a few diners when we got there, but still plenty of seating. We were seated, given the menus, and water (including a jug for the table, which I appreciated). The server told us that when we're ready to order to press the button on the side of the table. I love when restaurants do that. I ordered the Hanip to drink, which is a seasonal tea beverage, a non alcoholic type cocktail. I got the Japchae, which is a bowl of Japchae (glass noodles), beef bulgogi, spinach, carrots, onions with a shitake soy dressing. My friend got a coke and the Donkas, a breaded pork cutlet with a cabbage slaw. It also came with ketchup and bbq sauce on the side. Our food came out very fast; I don't think we waited more than 8 minutes, but our drinks hadn't arrived and the server said they'd be on the way. With our meals they brought out a small side of vegetables that included kimchi, bean spouts, radish (may have been daikon) with this delicious sauce, and mashed potatoes, plus a side of steamed rice. I'm not sure if the veggies and rice were for my meal or my friend's or for the table, but we both enjoyed it. I really liked the radish dish. Our meals were also delicious. My friend's pork cutlet was massive and she said it was really good. I loved the Japchae, it was savoury and comforting. I had been debating about ordering one of the full vegetable dishes like the eggplant or cucumber salad, but the serving sizes are decent and I wasn't hungry. The downside was they forgot about our drinks. I kept waiting and finally partway through our meal I pressed the button and asked about our drinks, and they had completely forgotten. The server (a different one from before) apologized. My friend's coke came out right after that and my drink took a few minutes to make. I do understand things get missed (I've worked in restaurants before), but it also wasn't very busy. So I can't give Hanjan 5-stars because of this but it was still a really meal. Both my friend and I said we'd go back again.

The fabric on the seats was stretched and cracked in a few places, so it looked like they could use some updating. For food, we ordered the Oreo waffle combo and the cinnamon crepe combo. The Oreo waffle combo was really good -- the waffle was cooked well and the cheesecake filling on top was delicious. It came with eggs (we ordered them over easy), hash browns, and bacon. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns were good as well. The bacon that came with both combos was a bit overcooked, but still tasted fine. The cinnamon crepe combo was also very good. The crepes had a nice cinnamon flavor and everything was cooked properly. It also came with eggs over easy and hash browns, which were both good. That said, if I had to recommend one, I would definitely go with the Oreo waffle combo. Timing-wise, we arrived at 10:40, were seated at 10:55, and placed our order around 11:00. Our food took about 30 minutes to come out. The restaurant was definitely busy since it was a Sunday, so the wait was understandable, but if you want a quicker experience I'd probably recommend going on a weekday instead. Our server was friendly and polite, but you could tell they were quite busy managing several tables. Overall, good food and a decent experience -- just be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak times.
