Roll Play is a fun place to hang out and play games. It's like a board game coffeehouse. For a small fee of five dollars, you can play a board game with friends or family. There is also a food and drink menu that you can order from. It's a really cool concept. The games are fun, unfortunately the food is average and not very memorable. I still recommend Roll Play for a fun atmosphere. The staff were very friendly.

For anyone who likes to host board game gatherings, this is really the dream business for them which fits all their needs well. There is practically every major game one can think of, available to rent at an extremely reasonable price with plenty of space to host. The menu here is pretty extensive with lots of different food and drink options, which cover a variety of different asian cuisines at a reasonable price. There's plenty of milk tea, lemonade, green tea, slush, and other options here to cover any drink needs that one may have.

This is a hidden gem in Gerver Mill. I had lunch from here on a Sunday. I was there early, so got a seat right away. But the place got busy right after. They have a lot of board games available. If you get food for some amoung (I think $20) you can play the games for free. Else pay a small fee for the game. I didn't play the games, but everyone else was. Bibimbap with Bulgogi beef was my favorite item. Definetely get the soy egg. It was very flavorful. Rose bandung was an amazing drink. It is rose milk, but has real rose petals in it. Real flavorful. Milo dinosour drink was ok. Singaporean chicken rice was good. Red bean taiyaki was good as well.

Love Roll Play, back for the same order: Taiwanese Lurou fan (braised pork rice) and rose black milk tea but this time iced, with boba and crushed Oreos! Never had crushed Oreos in milk tea before but I do like it! Will reorder. Service was tip top this day, employees are always so attentive and gentle and friendly, very approachable and all around makes the gaming experience so homely. Fresh cucumbers and pickled radish in the rice bowl makes all the difference~ Would the owners consider opening a branch on the west side?

This place is interesting. Nestled in a really cool historic building along with other shops, bars, and restaurants, it's tucked away in a corner past a makers' space. You'll find two large shelving units loaded with serious board games. We opted to try out Reef and Codenames Duet. They games were pretty beat up, which made the rules hard to follow since they were falling apart. I don't really fault them for this but it did reduce the experience. We ordered rice bowls and chips and dip, and my son got a boba tea he really enjoyed. The chips were straight out of a Costco bag if I had to guess, and the guacamole was quite plain. The rice bowls were better, with decent portions and flavor. Still nothing to write home about but not bad. Overall the place doesn't compare favorably to other board games cafè experiences I've had elsewhere. If it's close by and you want to hang out, go for it! Just lower the bar a notch before you go.

Board game house with a promising menu of pan-Asian street food, but the experience was hampered by poor service and cold food. It took our server a long time to get to us despite there only being one other table seated downstairs. He was unable to answer most questions about the menu. He was hesitant to help us out; he seemed all too happy to tell us that even small substitutions would not be accommodated, and hesitated when asked if we could have extra plates. Most of the food came out cold. The curry fish balls, one of the first items to come out, was especially chilly. Thankfully the soups that our group ordered came out hot. My jian bing was pretty good, but the pork floss was a bit flavorless. Overall the food was ok. It's not reasonable to expect perfect execution in such a varied menu at such a low price point. Unfortunately things moved so slowly that we did not have time after our meal to play any games. They still attempted to charge us a $5 per head board game fee, which I asked to be removed. I don't know if there were staffing issues or training issues at play here, but I would not come back unless the service was more smooth and the food came out hot.

And if your an absolute garden hoe for puns, the name says all. $5 dollars for gameplay (tbh never really seen them enforce the hourly rate thing-have usually just played for $5 flat). If you've got questions about their wall of available board games, someone working will be happy to give you suggestions based on what you're looking for! They've got expansion packs up the wazoo for all the popular ones (Ticket to Ride, Catan, etc) and many lesser knowns all sorted by game type (strategy, cooperative, etc). We got the HK curry fish balls, tteokbokki, and a beef rice bowl. HK Curry Fish balls - so good, fish balls done right, the curry really is good enough to drinks trust me we've done it tteobokki - excellently bouncy chewy rice cakes and had some goodies in the mix like pickled radishes, the sauce is good enough to drink but only if you want straight gochujang running thru your veins TLDR: games + street food = a great time. Get something spicy while playing one of their competitive ones and adrenaline will come steaming out your pores.

Great place to just sit down and play games with friends. Only thing is that it can get packed and crammed in such a little space. They do have a boba menu with so many to choose from but not many food options. I went for the red bean taiyaki. It was kinda small which I didn't expect but it was still good.

Service was great. The bibimbap was delicious. The star was the spicy sauce that comes on the side! It was perfectly packed with flavor and heat. So yummy! Mochi pumpkin muffin was nice and chewy, tasted like Christmas. Strawberry matcha with boba and strawberry popping boba was delectable. Lots of games to choose from for all ages. Hand sanitizer on every table was a huge plus. Will definitely be back. Pro tip: They allow you to bring in food from the other food stalls at Garver Feed Mill. We brought in pizza from Ian's to go with our other food.

I have never been to Roll Play but I love the concept and the location. Eating good food and playing board games or card games is so much fun. The waitstaff were very attentive and offered help with the menu and the games! Plenty of parking at this location which is great for bigger parties. Food was so flavorful and filling! Definitely will revisit.

We had the pleasure of attending an event hosted at Roll Play, and my wife and I had a great time! We were able to enjoy fun boardgames and try some great food! They had a good selection of games here, and even had an area for games new to their collection. The staff was really friendly, and available to teach us the basics of the game we chose, so we could start playing quickly! After that, we were able to relax and chat with great Korean food, and our choice of tons of different boba tea flavors with a bunch of different bobas we could add in. While the library isn't as large as somewhere like Noble Knight, this is the perfect place to take family and friends to have fun and relax with a meal. They also host events that you can find on their Instagram, I'm excited for the Happy Potter Trivia soon!

First review! I have been walking past their shop almost everyday on the way to class and got really excited when they soft open. They have a really cool concept, merging board games and street food. There are more than 100 games to choose from and the Game Masters make pretty solid recommendations. My friends and I managed to play two games (King of New York and SECRET HITLER!!). The Game Masters help set up your game and could teach you if you are playing the game for the first time. The decor is nice and the ambient is comfortable. If you are planning to stay long, ask for a booth seat Food wise, we ordered some Jian Bings (Chinese Crepes) and curry fish balls to share. Very tasty and authentic. I was so skeptical that I wouldn't get white meat Singapore chicken here, since I've only had white meat in Singapore. Sorry, not trying to be picky but I just don't eat dark meat. However, when I saw the sign that they give you options if either white or dark meat, I immediately felt relieved. Thank you so much for offering options. The food is great. It lined up to my expectations. The owners are friendly as well. The game lounge downstairs is closed unfortunately due to Covid-19. We'll be back soon once all this clears away. Food: 5 Service: 5 Uniqueness: 5 ----------------------- Go here now. No, seriously. Now. This place is outstanding. It's got a fun atmosphere with tons of boardgames to try out for a nice date night or friends night out. Their staff are unbelievably warm and friendly and the owners (former UW students) are open to feedback and you can tell want to make a great restaurant. But the not so secret jewel of Rollplay is the OUTSTANDING food. While Korean, Chinese and Singaporean street food might seem like simply a novelty to try here in Madison, I can tell you that they're not playing around. They've executed on their fare and it punches way above it's weight class. The Chinese "Jian Bing" is both crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. They have all the right gadgets to make it authentically and you'll feel like your eating it from a hot spot in Taipei. The Singaporean Chicken Rice is unreal. The sauce. I seriously have dreams about that spicy ginger sauce. I wish they sold it in bottles so I could put it on my burgers at home. Whether you're a Badger student, a long-time Madisonian, or an outside guest, Roll Play is a really great place you should definitely try out. read more

Roll Play is my go-to on the way out of Madison! It is quick, delicious, and always fun. The tteokbokki is my favorite - it is spicy, sweet, and the fish cakes add just the right amount of umami fishiness. The jian bing is savory and crunchy (also full of cilantro which is not noted on the menu). I have also tried several of their bubble teas which have all been excellent. read more

I frequented Rollplay regularly pre-pandemic and now that I'm back in Madison, have decided to check them out again. I love their new menu. My sister is vegetarian and they have some really unique new dishes such as the impossible don, as well as the braised "impossible" pork rice. My sister is now a huge fan after having tried their impossible don and almost orders from them every other day. They also added new games to their board game library (downstairs) including a few hard to find games. I was also excited to learn that they now have certain popular games for sale now as well! Rollplay has become one of my regular go-to places in Madison! Would recommend to anyone. TLDR : Rollplay has a unique fare and concept that is well worth a visit. Their new vegetarian dishes with impossible meat are spectacular. If you are vegetarian you definitely need to try Rollplay. read more

Their board game collection is quite impressive. As a casual board game enthusiast it feels like home. Food is pretty authentic and flavorful. I loved the experience of going to Roll Play. I came in with some friends to try a new board game or two. Right away the staff helped us pick out a board game (we chose Wingspan) and they taught us the rules while they helped us set up. We ended up playing games from 2-10 pm. There was clearly a lot of thought put into the design of the cafe. Upstairs is the cafe section with a few smaller tables and downstairs is the main play area. The downstairs section is decorated with a board game posters and the furniture is comfortable. Roll Play also provided small buckets for pieces as well as nice dice rolling trays. They even have extra generic tokens for when you run out of victory point tokens in a heated game. These are all small touches but go to show that this place is not fooling around. They intend to stick around, and I really hope they do. I'll be coming back again next weekend. Lastly, the cafe part of a "board game cafe" was well done. I ordered a muffin (I think it was an ube muffin as it was purple) and it was delicious. My friends all immediately ordered one too. read more

Fantastic new spot in downtown Madison! Wide selection of games for 2-8 players and well worth the $5 ($7 weekends) it costs to test play some of the rarer games that cost nearly $100 online. Staff was polite and able to assist with all of our questions about gameplay! The food and occasional free samples were also fantastic. Can't wait to go back! read more

Very legitimate Asian street food, but with much higher hygienic standards :). I ordered Hainan chicken, Korea tteok-bokki, and HongKong curry fishballs for take-out. Everything is delicious. Roll Play is a great board game restaurant! As a board gaming enthusiast, I loved their wide selection of games to choose from and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, offering suggestions for games and teaching us the rules. The atmosphere itself was cozy and inviting and great for spending several hours playing games. One of the standout features of the restaurant was the food. The menu had a variety of food and drink options to choose from and I think they change the menu periodically, so you can always go back and try something new! In addition to the food and atmosphere, the board game selection was impressive. There were both classic and newer games available, and the staff were knowledgeable about the different options and were able to recommend games based on our preferences. One of the games we played was Magic Maze, which was quick and fun. They also host several different type of game event, like trivia, tournaments, and social game nights. Came with friends two separate times during the soft opening. The game selection was insanely large. We played a total of five different games, a lot that I had never heard of and now want to add to my personal collection. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the games too. We covered everything from co-op to tile placement to linguistic games. Their have recommendations for the week are solid as well. I just wish I had more time and lived in the area! The food was good too. We ordered the crepes every time and split it as friends. The Malaysian White Coffee was solid as well. I would highly recommend Roll Play to anyone who really enjoys board games or even for a quick bite and coffee if strolling though downtown Madison. read more
