Pegasus is my go to shop for miniature wargaming/hobby gaming in the Madison area. It's a full-line store with a curated selection of board and card games in addition to their hobby game products. They carry more than just the usual GW stuff, including a robust selection of paints, hobby tools, basing supplies, and the like. Special orders are easy to place and Pegasus does a good job communicating product availability for items that are hard to get. There's a substantial play area with a large quantity of tabletop terrain available for customer use. Pegasus staff actively participate in my gaming group's Facebook page even though none of them play our game (Malifaux). They inform us about upcoming releases and new hobby products, answer questions, and take note of any special events we might be doing. I think there's been a big turnaround at Pegasus within the last couple of years. When I first went to the store in mid-2016, I didn't think I'd be back. I had the same experience recounted by many of my friends here: poor customer service, dingy surroundings, unwelcoming toward women and non-nerds. My experience today is very different. Staff members I've interacted with have been friendly and attentive. I often see women in the gaming area and behind the counter. The shop won't win any interior design awards, but it's clean and well laid out. If you're still avoiding Pegasus because of unpleasant stories or experiences from a few years ago, I encourage you to give the store another shot. read more

Transcribing my review from Google: There's so many reasons I despise this place. I've been here on and off over the past 10 years and nothing has changed. Borderline rude/useless employees, Pokemon cards don't have prices listed, very limited selection of everything, the store is dingy and poorly lit as if they're trying to save money on electricity because their awful prices don't make them enough money, and more. They give 40% cash for selling your trading card singles to them, and charge an appraisal fee if you don't sell to them. LOL. Most card stores will give you around 70% cash for your cards. This place is only in business because people must not know about any of the other stores in the area. Traveling around to other card/hobby stores recently in other cities just reinforces my point about how people that frequent this store must not know how good a shop can be, and how Pegasus is on the bottom tier of what any game store should strive to be. If you can muscle your way past the blatant virtue signaling at the door (because I'm sure that a platoon of ICE stormtroopers want nothing more than to raid a suburban game store) you'll find that the store seems more interested in selling gaming as a lifestyle than actually selling games and gaming accessories. And when the staff can be pulled away from gossiping with each other and/or selling overpriced CCG cards to preteens (or more accurately their befuddled parents) they'll talk to you just long enough to make sneery comments about what you're interested in purchasing. There was a 20% Labor Day sale, so I decided to walk around the store and check out what's to offer. The selection is not as massive as other board game shops around the area, so it can be limiting in what is available in this store. Since, I'm more of a causal board game player, there wasn't a lot that I wanted to pick up, so I just roamed around and decided to get a deck of cards that was in a nice collector tin, and then a Doctor Who card holder that looked awesome. There are some neat cool items that are worth checking out, I think because of the sale this weekend, the store didn't look the most organized but normally I do believe it's neatly organized. read more

We were so sad when we thought they might close with Lori's retirement, but they've been great with the new owners too! If you're a super board game nerd, Pegasus is the place to find your games. Very nice staff with cute, high quality dice bags made by a local artist. Has a decent selection of dice, card sleeves, and deck boxes, but no dice trays and or towers. Had lots of figures and figure painting supplies, along with many varieties of games both rpg and not. They had nothing for HeroScape, but that's not unexpected. The store itself isn't very large and although they have some good deals and great workers, the selection isn't amazing. It makes for a nice quick stop before going to the Arcade or Escape room near by, but not the greatest to go to in it's own. I do really like the dice I got there though so it's not bad, just not amazing. read more

I give 5 stars when I can't think of anything they could have done better. My little boy and I found a love of some of the more modern board games. When we got ready for another, I went to this place hoping to speak to someone knowledgable rather than just trying to guess what would be good for us based on what the box said. Lory the owner greeted us and asked if she could help as we walked in. I led with "We play game X a lot and want some more like that". She led us to the right section, which might have been hard to find in their packed store, and talked us through what she had. A lot of games she had played herself, a lot she didn't but had knowledge on what others were saying about it. After about 10 minutes with us, she timely left us to discuss and browse further. We picked a card game and board game. When I got home, I checked the price of the more expensive board game, wondering what "the damage" was, expecting it to have cost a bit more being a small business, but it cost about 25% LESS than advertised at the big box chain stores. I'm between one and two stars for this place. This used to be a great store and then they got rid of all their good workers except for one. The customers are the best thing about this place. Aside from the stereotypical social awkwardness, they're usually great people. The customers in the side room are always nice and willing to play games or teach them to new people. Aside from that, and I hate to say it, this place is terrible. They're more expensive than what you can get on Amazon or other places. I used to be willing to pay the extra back when the workers were good, but not any more. The workers, as I've been saying, are horrible. The issue changes from worker to worker. Some don't pay attention to customers and others are just plain creepy. One of the workers are so creepy I refuse to go in the store when they work. The owner used to be really great, but she's kind of teetered off. I don't really know how to describe the change. It's like she's checked out. The one great thing about her is that she really is helpful to any customers who don't know much about games. I wish the rest of the workers were the same. If you're just looking for a place to play games, Peg is great. If you're looking to buy stuff there, the prices and creep level just isn't worth it. read more

An absolutely fabulous store! All the employees are very helpful and so nice! As a female gamer, in some places people can be condescending; here, no one bats an eye and no one will ever talk down to you for being a girl! That was extremely refreshing to experience in a game store. The game reviews they give are extremely in-depth, they'll explain for as long as you want! They can also give great suggestions for related games to ones you already like. The gaming space next door is well kept and handy for trying any new games. Never had good service here. Every time I've walked in, the staff has been more interested in chatting with each other behind the counter. When I asked for help they made it seem an inconvenience, and responded "I don't know?" And went back to ignoring customers. During one of my first encounters there, they'd just sold out of "King of Tokyo". They put me on a wait list. A month went by, and I hadn't heard anything. I called in and asked about it. " Oh, it's out of print". So, I jumped on Amazon and had it two days later. Since then I've found much better game shops in Madison, and can recommend them far more than Pegasus. read more

Events * I have attempted to attend two "events" recently at Pegasus. In one case the event had been cancelled, in another, no one showed up including an organizer. Staff * Every time I have been in the store, including today, the staff was far more interested in gossiping with each other than in helping the customers. It is my experience today that prompted me to write this review. The two men were talking about another employee saying things that were clearly audible at the the opposite end of the store about another employee, (clearly a female employee fwiw). When I have I asked questions about specific games the answer has been " I don't know", "I haven't played", or similar responses despite the fact that I was asking about top rated games from board game geek's website. Selection ** At first it appears that there is a large selection but upon closer inspection, the games are often outdated versions and many popular and highly rated games are missing. Overall * I believe in supporting local businesses but they have to bring something to the table, so to speak. Pegasus could excel by being friendlier and more knowledgeable. On the up side, there is a new game store right across the street, primarily aimed at Magic the Gathering players that I had pleasant experience with even though I am not really a Magic the Gathering player. read more

This is the store the makes the husband happy! I have found some skull decor, but it's about Clixs and what the hubs needs are.

So you know where I'm coming from, I'm mainly an RPG player (D&D, Pathfinder, Fate...), and what I want out of a game store is friendly employees, a good selection of the games I play, and a good atmosphere for in-store play. Pegasus delivers on some of these. The store packs a LOT of stuff into a small space, and they have an impressive variety of RPG products, accessories, books, systems, etc. I like that. Pega-points for you. They also run a pretty good array of events and public play games, which is good too, but more on that in a second. The employees are across the board in the friendliness category. On 1-2 occasions I've heard them openly talking smack about other gamers and patrons loud enough for customers to hear, and that was a little uncomfortable. Some are friendly, some are less so. I've also been in for a handful of public play gaming sessions, like D&D Encounters, since I've moved to town, and it seems like this store attracts some seriously immature RPG players. I will admit that this is only based on public play games and not private games that take place in the store's space, but it can be tough to enjoy yourself in that scenario. It ranges from awkward to overtly hostile. I can't blame the store for the players, but it does detract from the experience of going there. All told, not a bad experience, but not a great one. Convenient to my house, good selection, lots of events. Inconsistently engaged staff, other players can be difficult sometimes. read more

I have been a regular at Pegasus for over 20 years. What distinguishes them for me is the degree of expertise and personalized interest in my hobbies. They have a good selection of board games but I am a miniatures and RPG fan. I have come to think of the staff as personal advisors as to which products are of most interest to me. read more

First time I've ever left a review on Yelp. I'm doing so because I see some bad reviews and that ran absolutely counter to my experience. I am new to the area so I checked out to two of larger shops in town. Misty Mountain and Pegasus. Since I was new and getting back into a hobby I had abandoned ten years ago, I had questions. At Pegasus I got the feeling they were more into the things I liked to do, i.e. painting, modelling, and playing games. Not necessarily just a store to facilitate my purchases. Steve, a manager, was incredibly knowledgeable and generous with information. I plan on making my second visit to the their store to pick up a few things later today.
