Earlier this Summer, Misty Mountain Games changed ownership. And, you certainly can see the difference! It's much improved! I used to pop into the store to buy my nephews Pokemon cards, and hoped they'd have some cool new board game to buy. But the selection of board games was small and seemed to slowly dwindle over time. But now they have TONS of cool board games, card games, collectible cards, etc. It's like a completely different store! And the new owner is great. He's super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting a product that's perfect. I've never been happier to have Misty Mountain in the Rolling Meadows neighborhood! Check them out! read more

I really do like the owner and most of the staff. Very good hearted people. But I just had one of the those situations happen tk me that I will never forgive. Nobody was in the store other than me and three employees. I was ripping the last few booster boxes they had with them all knowing I'm going to buy until I hit or they run out of product. My third box eployee 1 grabs for me and employees 2 hits it out of his hand and said, you have been bad luck let me pick. Knowing I was going to get that one next I didn't care what order. Then all of a sudden employee one says, I'm going to buy this one and open it now. Now. Employee ripping during work is unprofessional. Two. He is jumping in my run with only 3 left. One k had. One he grabbbed. And one more. And three. What Are you going to prove other then of you hit, yoy are going to make the customer super angry, make emlloyee 2 feel super bad and look like an asshole for doing it. So of course he hits what I've been chasing. The greyninja $550 card. When I walk back in from ripping in my car, he litterally throws it in my face and went, ooohhhhg yeah!!!! Like I did something to Make h want to brag. Instead made me feel like I got completely taken for. I could see it in employee 2 eyes he was really upset cause he felt super bad. And hes just wakkkng around laughing. I will never buy from that store again so good job emoloyee. You just cost the owner thousands and thousands. considering the next day something important came up and that 500 could have relllly saved my life. But either way, Misty, your eoloyeee just cost you. And I stopped three today to sell a couple cards. Dude didn't even apologize. Offer me a pack. Something. Screw this store read more

employees do not care. Will place your cards harshly. on their phones. worst part is the cards are on a kiosk. when you buy a card it'll show the most expensive one you're buying for a good price but it'll be a whole different option. very misleading. would not come back to this place. they don't care read more

Were in America and you don't take cash. Very poor business. Not everyone has a debit card or credit card. Especially kids wanting to buy cards etc. Very poor choice not to accept cash. read more

I am not a gamer, so feel free to take this review with a grain of salt. I stopped in with my geeky boyfriend because he wanted to check out the Star Wars X-Wing game before investing. I poked around the rest of the shop while he pored over the pieces and was able to make a pretty quick loop. Misty Mountain has a decent selection but seems to specialize in a million versions of a few choice games (Settlers of Cattan and Fluxx are the ones that stand out in my memory). There were also quite a few figurines for games that you could paint and decorate yourself. For someone like me who was just browsing to see what's interesting, there's not going to be a lot of variety. If you know your stuff and need something specific, though, this very well could be your place. The guy running the shop was really nice and there is a gigantic span of tables in the back for group gameplay. I knew people get together to play games at shops, but I had no idea it was such a massive endeavor. The gaming area has a kind of warehouse/basement feel that is somehow completely appropriate but not that aesthetically pleasing. Great hobby game store! Large selection of board games and miniatures. Knowledge and friendly staff. Play space is massive!

Misty Mountain is what I would call a fairly average game store. There's nothing overly positive or negative that stands out about it. I really feel that this store could really step up their game in some areas to become something really stellar. First, I love the massive open play space at the back of the store and frequent CCG, roleplaying, miniature, and board game events. It's a great way to pull the gaming community together. Along the same line, this particular store does not suffer from "basement gamer smell." I am pleasant surprised that the store has a neutral scent, despite the masses of people that hang around the store for the open play space. The miniature and CCG selection seems to be full of anything you would really need, but the board game front needs some work. The selection sits between Target and a well stocked game store. Many of the demanded new releases are not in and many box covers are faded from sitting in the sun. I love supporting friendly local game stores (FLGS), but I find it hard to support this one because there isn't much on the shelf that I want to buy. I already own everything on the shelf or I'm disinterested. It would be great to see more stock options and new releases. Additionally, carrying component upgrades for board games would be a welcome introduction. It appears that all of the prices here are MSRP, which is fairly expected for a game store. Unfortunately, they do not have a loyalty program for customers. While I LOVE supporting FLGS the lack of loyalty program makes it a difficult choice for me to either spend significantly more money compared to Amazon or Cool Stuff Inc or to support local business. For example, Terra Mystica is $51.99 on Amazon, but the store is selling at the full price of $80. I really want to support you, Misty Mountain, but you make it so hard with these massive price differences and no loyalty program. If you do have a loyalty program not a single employee has told me about it after multiple purchases. read more

Selection is fine, seems to have less stuff on sale now that they added tables for what I assume are gaming demos, but honestly I won't go in there again unless I have to. I went in there with a friend during Friday night magic a couple weeks ago to pick some stuff up for a DND session, and just walking in the door we got hit with a wave of body odor. I know the place always smells a little iffy, and I'm not sure if it's that the odor has seeped into the carpet after years and years, or if Misty attracts the most unhygienic of the geeks in the area, but the smell was just foul. I think if there was a hygiene policy enforced, and the carpets were removed or just deep cleaned it would be fine. It could be a fine place to go for extended periods of time, but for right now it's just not pleasant. read more

This is one of the better game stores that I've been to. I've lived in a few different states, and I've pretty much seen the range of stores. This is the most well stocked store I've been to since my time in WI, and they have a huge space for FNM, D&D, and whatever other events they hold. Their hours run later than quite a few of the games stores between Milwaukee and Madison, which is nice. The staff was friendly, and overall this is a pretty rad store. read more

In one day my husband and I hit up three game stores. Misty Mountain was the third on the game store tour. Of the three, it had the most difference in selection. There were games there that we had not seen at the other two stores. It also had an EPIC playing area. Much larger then the other two.
