Roll Em Up is tucked away in a strip center across from a Hope Depot, an apartment complex, a Total Wine, a Kroger, and a McDonalds. So, it's easy to get overlooked. They offer a menu that really covers a lot of different cravings. Their namesake taquitos look appetizing, but my main focus was their Tuesday Taco box. You get 10 tacos, with a ground beef or potato option, as well as a large order of fries. The box included a large red sauce and a couple of green sauces. The green was my favorite. I opted to get 5 and 5. If you order online, you have to specify in the order comments/notes section. The tacos were crispy. They were stuffed with cheese and lettuce, in addition to the ground beef/ potatoes. The fries were crispy. The best part, on Tuesdays, the entire box is 25.00! It was a good experience. My son was in town for the holidays, and where he lives now, there just aren't alot of good Mexican food spots. I wouldn't say this place is an authentic Mexican food spot, but it's close enough. Tex Mex if you will. We were trying to find something to eat in the area to meet up some fam and came across this place on Yelp. I actually had it bookmarked for awhile so I was more than happy to cross another spot of my to do list. Located in a busy shopping center in the Heights, there is alot of parking available, but at busy times, you may need to drive around a little. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but there was plenty of seating inside as well as a small patio outside. I like that they also have board games and what not so they aren't trying to rush you out, but want to make it seem like a hangout spot. Customer service was amazing from start to finish. The young lady taking our order went above and beyond explaining their concept and describing each item they had. During our meal, they checked in on us frequently and made sure we were enjoying our experience. You may or may not have guessed it by the name, but Roll Em Up Taquitos specializes in taquitos. A taquito is a rolled up tortilla filled with different toppings and then deep fried. How can you go wrong with that! They also have items like tacos, a taco burger, taco salads, bowls, nachos and loaded fries. We came for the namesake item. Between our group, we got all the different varieties of taquitos available. I got a 4 pack in which you can mix and match fillings. I went with all the options of beef, chicken and potato. You then pick your topping style. They have loaded which is a cheesy, saucy options. OG is more of a traditional preparation with lettuce, queso fresco, guac and sour cream. Enchilada style is doused with enchilada sauce and cheese. I got mine loaded. The packs also come with rice and beans. For 13 bucks, it's a pretty hearty meal. The taquitos came out freshly made and had the most wonderful crunch with every bite, even with all the sauces. I imagine getting them to go or waiting awhile might take away from how it is intended to be eaten. I tried bites of the other variations and they were all tasty. I think I like the OG way the best though. The taquitos were delicious, but the big surprise was how delicious the rice and beans were. We couldn't stop talking about how good it was. We also tried a side of the street corn in a cup. This item was not a fave of the table. It was too citrus forward and something I would skip next time. For drinks, they have fountain drinks, refreshers, Jamaica and even horchata. I went with a mango refresher which was very refreshing and tasty. To finish it all off, we had to satisfy the sweet tooth with some churro donuts. These things were so so good. They made sure to bring it out towards the end of the meal so they were hot and fresh. I recommend everyone requests it that way. I wish this spot wasn't so far from home. Well maybe it's a good thing because I would be here often. I always want to support small business and after seeing a few TikTok videos, how ultra clean the restaurant was, I see big plump taquitos, so I decided to try it. I will say the staff is amazing, very welcoming, educated me on the menu and I opted for the 2 taco combo, a side of 2 taquitos beef n corn, and chicken corn plus a few dipping sauces. Pros: The best hands down Spanish rice from a fast food I've ever had. Fluffy, tomato flavor, amazing rice. The beans were also great, soft, strong bean flavor, velvety texture. The jalapeño ranch is as good as Wingstop ranch, another example of one of the best ranches on the market. They should bottle it and sell it. Green gobblin sauce was good but not spicy, good green salsa, and the lite em up sauce to me tasted like good mayo. The fresh toppings on the crunchy taco were superb, amazing thick abundant amount of cheese which I love. Fresh lettuce, cold and strong cheese flavor, it helps cut through the oily shell, it needs the freshness. Cons: The taquitos were not what I was expecting online. They were too greasy and too thin. I saw pictures of the taquitos online from other yelpers and the ones I got were a let down. Too thin and tiny, the flavors are amazing though so it does taste better than it looks. Too greasy but the fresh toppings add more value and flavor in my opinion. The tacos, geez. Hard to eat, the shell was already cracked in half when I unwrapped it. It's hard to eat when all the beef falls off and the lettuce is all over the place. I think they were cooked too long, the shell was over fried, and too greasy. GREASY. I still have a lingering oil flavor in my mouth. To me it's like an elevated Jack n the box taco, both are greasy but Roll Em Up has better beef quality, larger amounts of lettuce, more cheese, and great dipping sauces. They were offering 1 free taco burger with an order of nachos or taquotos, or a free hard shell taco with a taco meal or a free order of fries with an order of fries. We ordered the Carne asada nachos and got a taco burger for free. The nachos were decent, the burger was ok, kinda like a sloppy Joe. Overall the nachos the free burger with 2 drinks was still around 20 bucks somehow. Service was above and beyond. First and foremost this place lives up to the hype you see all over instagram. Amazing flavors bursting with love. I walked in and could already smell heaven. I stopped by Roll 'Em Up Taquitos after a late Home Depot run, genuinely wanting to support a local spot and try Taquitos because I have no seen a restaurant in the area that strictly Taquitos. Unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired and honestly, I left more frustrated than full. When I walked in, I was the only customer in the restaurant. Still, it took close to a full minute for anyone to acknowledge me. One staff member appeared to be on a Bluetooth call, casually chatting while I stood there waiting, speaking in Spanish in which I understood what she was saying (I'm not going to repeat what that phone call conversationconsisted of). That lack of urgency and attention to the customer experience was the first red flag. I decided to stick it out because I really wanted to give the food a fair shot. I made it know it was my first time there and when I asked for a recommendation, again, as a first-time customer, I was met with a generic, unhelpful "You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu." That kind of response reads as indifferent, not confident. If you believe in your product, help guide the guest. Instead, I was left to guess. Though I know it is a straightforward menu, help me out with something. I ordered the 2-pack combo taquitos (chicken and beef, flour tortillas), and unfortunately, they were over-fried, dry, and severely lacking in seasoning. The shredded beef was stringy and tough, and the chicken didn't fare much better. They weren't just bland & they were hard to chew through. I'm originally from California and have enjoyed authentic taquitos made with real care and flavor from my best friends mother who's Mexican. These didn't come close. The only saving grace was the queso, which was decent. Even the drink (Starry) I ordered was flat, which just added to the disappointment. I didn't even get to take any pictures cause I didn't finish the food. Look, I understand it was late in the evening and maybe it was the end of a long shift, but consistency and quality shouldn't clock out early. I wanted to like this place. I tried to like this place. But when customer service is passive and the food doesn't back it up, there's not much reason to return. You're allowed to choose the type of tortilla (corn or flour) and different fillings for the taquitos so I chose corn tortillas and for the filling 1 shredded beef and 1 chicken. Both taquitos were tasty and really crunchy. The rice and beans were also delicious. The beans were my favorite between the 2 (rice/beans). They tasted like they were mashed charro beans). The person at the counter was really friendly and gave us a rundown of their menu and answered all of our questions. Decided to stop by an hour before closing. I ordered the two taquito combo with chicken and everything on it. I also chose elote loaded up and a side of beans. First impression of the taquitos -- crunchy goodness with an explosion of flavor and moist chicken. Although I ordered it as takeout with all the toppings on it, they did get soggy by the time I was halfway through my first one. The staff was fantastic and gave me lots of options including requesting all toppings on the side ( what I should have done lol). Taquitos were great despite the sogginess, due to my negligence. I had high hopes for Roll Em Up Taquitos, especially after hearing good things, but unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired. The service was a bright spot--the girl at the front register was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu, which I appreciated. I ended up ordering the 3 Taquito Combo: one shredded beef on corn, one chicken on corn, and one cheese on flour. While the meat had a decent spice level, it was hard to tell which one was the chicken and which was the beef--they tasted too similar. The cheese taquito was a letdown--it was lukewarm and the cheese was barely melted. As for the sides, the combo comes with beans and rice, but you can't substitute them without paying for an "upgrade," which felt a bit restrictive. Unfortunately, the texture and flavors of the entire meal were subpar. At $14.05 for a combo that didn't leave me feeling full, I can't say the value is there. So much hope for this place to be a good one -- the first impression was positive with the modern clean new atmosphere The first issue is that the food took too long to receive. This feels like a fast casual place. My expectations were the food would be ready in 10-15 minutes, but it took 20-25 minutes to get the food while dining it around 2pm on a Friday. It did not feel like lunch rush or dinner rush for the food to be slow to arrive. We started cracking jokes about them going to the store to buy the taquito ingredients. The beans were overly salty and cold. The potato flauta was bland-- no salt or flavor. The rice overpowered by cumin flavor. The biggest issue I have with this place is that the flautas are overcooked. Given that these taquitos are their specialty, it's like messing up a fundamental. Go to YouTube and you'll see the right color to fry flautas -- so when this place burns the ends in their fryer -- it's really clear it's overcooked, burnt, and not visually appealing. The oil that the taquitos are cooked in is dirty-- from the fillings that have spilled out -- the taquitos have all these little black burnt bits onto the outside from where the burned parts stuck to the fresh taquitos. Churro donut was super greasy, dough tasted saturated in frying oil. Cinnamon sugar plus caramel made it sickly sweet. The churro donut concept did not taste good. The cashier had said the churro donut was good, but I was upset at the churro donut was almost inedible because it was soooo greasy overly sweet. $30-$40 for 2 people to eat here also makes it unacceptable to have mediocre food. The food flavor and quality was more like $15 for 2. "Premium" pricing to the mediocre food only adds insult to injury. This is a "One and done" kind of place. - Will never return. - Will never recommend. I do not have faith this place will do well in Houston. I got the fully loaded nachos, 3 combo, (potatoes, shredded beef, and chicken), and horchata slush. The taquitos were not packed full of filling and the meat had no flavor to them. For the price of taquitos which works out to be $3 dollars a piece it was disappointing. The nachos was decent but pricey as well at $17. I wanted to share some honest feedback about my visit on 8/6. I stopped in hoping to grab some tacos, and asked to have them without tomatoes and with onions added instead. The person taking my order told me the tacos were tested as-is for quality, and that changing the ingredients might make them soggy. When I asked if I could get the onions on the side instead, I was told I could get a side of pico. I explained that I don't eat tomatoes, so I didn't want pico--just the onions. I was told I should try the dish their way first, and then they could get me a side if needed. At that point, I was turned off. It felt unnecessarily rigid for something as simple as a taco order. I completely understand if there are chef-driven dishes where modifications aren't recommended--but tacos are customizable by nature, and I know how I like them.
