It was very similar to something you would get in a nice US restaurant (not that this makes it authentic), but it worked for me. My wife got more traditional sushi rolls and also had good things to say. If you're looking for something non-italian in Rome, give it a shot.

They still were able to seat us immediately. This was probably because we went around 7:30pm, which seems early for dinner in Italy. The prices were pretty expensive for what you get. Our bill would have been probably half of what we paid in the US. One sushi roll was 20€. We're on vacation and the location was convenient, so we didn't care much. The restaurant itself is modern and clean. Low lighting and not too loud. The menu was not in English so we were a little intimidated at first. The server was extremely nice about it. We explained we were having a hard time deciding because we were struggling with our Italian reading skills. He was patient and asked what we were looking for and made great suggestions. While our appetizer and sushi came out in a reasonable amount of time, it did take a while to get our entree. We weren't in a hurry and were enjoying our wine. It took a bit to catch the attention of the server when we were finished to get the bill also. The broth only came with seaweed and noodles but they make up for it with a plate full of tempura shrimp, sweet potatoes and veggies! We had one order of sake nigiri and one order of Toro. The sake was good - small slices but tasted as it should. The Toro didn't look/taste like fatty tuna Belly at all. It was definitely just normal Tuna and tasted a bit off. They tried to charge us for two orders of each but we only received one so check your bill if you don't get something! Overall, a good Asian fix in Italy!

You have various options here to eat, there is the Kaiten (conveyor belt with many different plates ready to eat) this is the best option especially if you want a quick meal or have a movie to go watch at the nearby cinema. Otherwise there are regular tables, or the tatami, a special japanese room where you eat like in Japan and is ideal for private parties. Than there are about 12 seats at the teppanyaki, which is the japanese style grill where an extremely knowledgeable and experienced chef cooks extremely good dishes but is entertaining at the same time! This is one of the best I've ever been to and I've traveled pretty much all around the world. The sushi has an "italian" approach to it, since all the ingredients and food is locally grown therefore it is always fresh and delicious. They also make extremely good "american style" rolls that are very good too! A must try for sushi & sashimi lovers are the Gunkan, a rice ball wrapped in fish (usually tuna or salmon) or avocado with a fish tartar on top, that if asked will be mixed with flying fish eggs and spicy mayo! As crazy as it sounds, for our last meal in Europe, and in Rome for that fact, we opted for sushi. We chose Daruma as it was 5 minutes from our B&B and throughout the past few days we walked by it a number of times, and each time it was busy. So why not. Out of pure chance and coincidence we dined on a Sunday night, which is a special night. Every Sunday at the Kaiten (revolving sushi belt) the dishes are yellow and each dish is 3 euros. Which is a STEAL if you look at the rest of the menu. Yes the sushi on the Kaiten is limited, because they can't really afford to put the good stuff out. Still it wasn't bad. We did notice that a lot of the plates were salmon. Either the Italians LOVE their salmon (which appeared to be the case to the diners across from us) or salmon is really cheap. Once the Kaiten starts, all the dishes load up and the belt is full and at max capacity. I would say out of 10 dishes, 8 were salmon. If you really liked salmon, I recommend the one in sashimi. It was more fresh and had that fattiness that sashimi salmon has. I would stay away from anything that has avocado. As a California native who has definitely eaten my weight in all forms of sushi, the avocado SUCKED. It wasn't ripe and it was missing the creaminess that is avocado. I would also wait from ordering edamame which on the menu is 4 euros, when you can only pay 3 euros. Overall, it wasn't the greatest sushi place I've ever been to. For Rome standards it probably was better than mediocre? I'm not sure how european's do asian food...It's definitely not authentic here. If you are a true sushi lover like me, and you are an adventurous eater, this is not the place for you. However, if you're craving and want something clean apart from pasta, come on a Sunday night, your wallet will thank you. PS: again, no tap water. Only still or sparkling, and of course you had to pay for it.
