I'm an American but wanted to try something different and this was the place. Atmosphere was super cool, the seats and decor were very nice and different than the typical restaurants around town. We came right when they opened for dinner service, we were asked if we had dinner reservations, which we did not, but were still seated (was a little odd since by the time we left the restaurant was still mostly empty). Food was good and came out quick, although we did get the more tamer options with less of the Brazilian flair. Overall, was a good alternative to the normal Italian cuisine. read more

When we first arrived we were the only two in the restaurant. But by Italian standards we were pretty early it was only about 7:00. None of the staff spoke English but thankfully there was a QR code to pull the menu up in English. They describe themselves as Nippo-Brazilian sushi cuisine. Fabulous original experience in Rome, a really cute concept and a pleasant change from the usual tedium of Italian or Japanese food with little variety in between. I want to preface this by saying this is a 4.5 star review, but of course Yelp only allows whole star ratings. Temakinho was such a clutch find. When you're traveling in Italy for a prolonged period, eventually pizza and pasta gets old. The sushi at Temakinho not only suffices as a substitute for the copious amounts of Italian food, but it down right impresses with interesting maki combinations, a cool atmosphere and refreshingly delicious artisan cocktails. Temakinho is a Brazilian style sushi restaurant, that's actually doing justice to the word 'fusion'. The restaurant immediately reminded me of a less expensive Sushi Samba (popular high-end Brazilian style sushi restaurant in the U.S. and London). The drinks are downright awesome, so refreshing and artfully made. The bartender that evening took her time and made each drink to perfection, which was the case for the multiple rounds of mango sakerinhas and passion fruit caprinhas we had. We started with the small plate of seared tuna atop pureed yellow and purple potatoes garnished with a citrus sauce - solid. Wish the portion was a bit bigger since it was only 4 bites but I guess it was a small plate after all. For sushi, we opted for three different rolls which I'm forgetting the names. One had fried salmon tempura with avocado and then banana and cream cheese on top - sounds weird but it was actually really delicious. The next was a spicy tuna roll of sorts with a crunchy topping which I think included peanuts - also very good. My favorite was the yellowtail roll, showcasing yellowtail two ways - very refreshing and tasty. I also paid attention to other rolls or temaki that other diners ordered and everything looked genuinely fresh and yummy. Again, Temakinho was such a nice deviation from pasta and pizza. The sushi was creative, the drinks were amazing, and the staff was very friendly/accommodating. Future trips to Rome won't be complete without dining at Temakinho. read more

I'll be honest. One of the first things I noticed upon entry was the endearingly exotic pineapple wallpaper that covered Temakinho's dimly lit walls. Instant vacation! Temakinho is a small gem in Monti but it is far from hidden. In order to eat here my group of 5 had to make reservations a week prior. A week! Consider yourself warned. It's also worth noting that Temakinho doesn't serve Japanese style sushi. It's more of a Brazilian take on sushi. As an abroad student here in Rome, I was ready to get a little gastronomically adventurous since I've been on a steady diet of Pizza, Pasta, Pizza, Pasta, Repeat. We started with the oh-so-alcoholic cocktails. I ordered a Mango "cocktail" with something stronger than Saki in it (name unknown) and was not impressed. It tasted like a mixed drink you'd find in a sorority comprised only of dining hall juice and the strongest, albeit cheapest, alcohol the sisters could find. On top of the drink was a colony of indiscernible small, tart berries. They were in the drink more as a garnish but served more as an annoyance as they continued to get stuck in my straw and made sipping a real process. I'd highly recommend the vegetarian roll (everyone can get on board with that--no raw fish!). Between us five girls we must have eaten 3 or 4 of them. The breaded salmon roll was fabulous as well. If you don't speak Italian fluently, request an English menu as the language barrier is pretty real. Our waiter was gracious and patient however, and he worked double to ensure our needs were being met and we understood what we were ordering. Sushi is pretty hard to find in Rome, Brazilian is even harder. If you're fancying an exotic meal or just wanna stray from the beaten path of carbohydrates, give Temakinho a try. read more

This sushi was delicious!! My mom and I were on day 9 in Italy and needed a little break from all of the pasta and pizza! We are huge sushi fans and were exceptionally pleased by this stop! This place has so much potential. The place is beautiful and the food is decent. Not the best sushi or Japanese food but good enough if you're wanting to try something other than Italian food. But the reason why I'm giving this restaurant 1 star is because the service is horrible. No one comes to you to serve or check up on you to make sure you need anything. We weren't even sure why because there was just my husband and I and another couple their. The other couple ended up leaving because no one came to take their order. Sad to see a potentially good restaurant have horrible service. Also, I asked for some spicy mayo on the side and the manager first gave me spicy sriracha instead and then I asked for spicy mayo to the waiter who finally brought what I asked for. When we got the bill they failed to mention that they charged us for all 3 condiments! Honestly don't come here if you do not want to wait 20 mins to have someone take your order. read more

To-die-for sushi in Rome! A must-go while near the Colosseum. Great to eat when you are tired of the Italian food. This is Brazilian-Japanese fusion and it is honestly amazing. Hard to find this quality of sushi in the States. Get here early before the lunch rush and your food will come out in a snap! Any of their sushi rolls are fantastic and I have been here on two separate trips to Rome. Water is complimentary, and the mixed drinks are fruity and fun. They have a list of freshly squeezed juices that are delicious. I recommend any of the salmon or tempura rolls, and the Mexican roll with jalapeños! read more

Great restaurant if you are looking for something different from traditional Japanese rolls. Here they have very unique Brazilian inspired rolls for example with bananas. The cocktails are very good too! The restaurant is not cheap but it is definitely worth it. It is very small and remember to book online in advance! read more

Being the day before a major holiday we were fortunate to get a table. Both the food and the service were great. Being Australian by origin but Roman by adoption it's not easy to get good sushi as most places in town are effectively Chinese restaurants serving sushi on the side. Really tasty and fresh. Had the poke' bowl and really like all the flavor. Only a couple of minor criticisms: 1. Really should have better chopsticks to use. Those flimsy things that are chopsticks/trainers aren't very good; 2. If you or a child has nut allergies they cannot cater to that. Five days in Rome and this was our best meal! Service was superb - friendly and attentive but not over the top. Food was delicious! We ordered 5 different rolls, the breaded shrimp and bacalao for appetizers, 3 cakes for dessert and all of them delicious. Note: doesn't show up correctly on the map and Apple Maps.
