I'm so glad I read the positive Yelp reviews and decided to have dinner at Kisaki. I specifically went for Shojin Veg Ramen and it was excellent. A big bowl of steaming broth, perfect noodles, pickled ginger, fresh mushrooms and scallion, plus lots of spinach was just what I wanted. We were blown away by the quality of the food here. The soba noodles here is probably one of the best I have ever had. And I have been to Tokyo before. The dashi broth was outstanding. As soon as our lovely waitress placed it in front of me, the aroma was intoxicating. The sushi chef expertly prepared the Usuzukuri Moriawase. Each slice was heavenly. There was a bit of pepper taste which required us to not have to use any wasabi. To finish off our meal, we had the Matcha Doramisu. It's like a Tiramisu but Matcha flavor. So yummy. When you have been travelling through Italy and you love the food, but you just wanna break this is a fabulous place to go. The service was amazing and the ambiance was absolutely adorable. I think what I heard is his family loves Kisaki and wanted to bring it back to Rome. We had a great sashimi sampler Chef's choice. We had a mango roll. We had some Japanese beer, edamame, and miso soup at the end of the meal, they brought us a surprise plum drink, that is used as a digestive which I thought was a nice touch. Ordered the edamame and the crunchy California tempura. Edamame could have used just a bit for salt for my personal preference, but a generous serving for one- two people. I loved the quiet music they played, the ambiance, the decor, the service, and the food! They have udon, soba, ramen, sushi, and sashimi, desserts and drinks! The sake sushi was so soft to bite into, a bit more rice than I like, so a larger rice to fish ratio, but it was still yummy & the presentation was great! The udon is different from the udon i usually get in the U.S.. The broth was super salty, so I would avoid this if you wanted something similar to udon in the U.S., and the udon noodles are skinny, and thin. It was good, just not what I prefer for udon. The servers spoke English so I was able to order with ease. I'd definitely visit again, maybe to try the ramen & definitely get more sushi. Complete disappointment. We were super excited from reading the reviews. When We showed up, we were told there was a 30 min wait. Told that the open tables were reserved. Understandable. Since they do not have a waiting area, we ordered espresso next door and waited. When we came back, we were told to wait an additional 15 minutes. Not happy, but we'll deal. We finally get seated and get comfortable. Take our coats off and browse the menu. 5 minutes in, the waitress comes back to our table and tells us we were mistakenly seated at the wrong table and are asked to get back up and wait an additional 10 mins. At this point, we left and don't plan on coming back. If we were told from the moment we got there that it'd be an hour wait, we would have understood and found a difference place to eat and come back the next day knowing that reservations were recommended. The smooth jazz added to the overall experience. We got gyoza which appeared to have been prepared in-house. Delicious. We also got a simple salmon roll that tasted very fresh. Ramen noodles certainly did not live up to the high price expectation. There is restaurant a little further in Rome that makes its own noodles... please look further before choosing this restaurant.
