Tired of eating pasta during our trip, I tried to find a Japanese restaurant near Vaticcan and although this one is a bit of a walk, it has great reviews @ TA, so we've decided to try this place. The short walk was definitely worth it! When we first came in, we noticed that almost off of the other diners were Japanese, so that's a good sign! Everything we ordered with the exception of ika yaki and toro(both are NOT recommended) were good! The fried rice was suprisingly tasty, the sashimi has a thick cut and taste fresh. Presentation was good as well. Hot tea is not refillable. They also charge service charge of €2/person.

Though we are in Rome, we decided to try this highly recommend ramen. Absolutely did not disappoint. The tonkotsu was amazing. One of the top ramens I've ever had. We had the age salmon roll which was also delicious. The service was kind and helpful. Other than being a little pricey I highly recommend this place.

Made a reservation online and when I walked in they said they were full. Do not understand why they have not updated their system.

Made a reservation online and when I walked it they said they cancelled my reservation because they were "booked". I did not receive an email cancellation. Bad customer service.

    Katsudon with soft eggs

Ordered the katsudon which came with nicely soft, half-cooked (and not rubbery) eggs! The katsu was nicely flavored from the sauce, which plenty was poured onto the rice as well. I did find that the katsu was rather thin considering how much rice you get. If you're looking for thick juicy cuts, this isn't it. But the flavors are all there. I also ordered the spicy tuna roll which was fine. It took a while for my roll orders to arrive since it seemed like there was only one person in charge of making sushi orders. I did find it a little odd that the sushi rice had been seasoned with salt, which made the roll a bit saltier than it needed to be. Overall the food was pretty good and the portions are really fair in relation to the quality and price! Probably one of the most authentic Japanese food you'll find in Rome.

Amazing quality of sushi. Eat without soy sauce or wasabi.

Wow. The best sushi outside Tokyo. Amazing quality. Incredible service. Perfect ambience. Price is surprisingly more than reasonable. Udon and ramen are the best outside of Tokyo as well. They should make sure English speaking people know about this place too.

This place is a welcome change to all the pasta! I love visiting Italy but you can get burnt out on the pasta meals after awhile.

Our experience here was what I was hoping to experience everywhere but with a big city like Rome, you'll get a mixed bag.

We were jetlagged so we didn't eat all of our food and our server seemed concerned, but he boxed it up for us wonderfully. It was one of the rare sushi places that was actually open on Monday. It was also quite warm in the restaurant. Admittedly, we were in Rome during a major heat wave, so maybe their A/C just didn't have the power to keep up. As far as the rolls go, they had the typical sushi rolls that you find in most sushi restaurants. It tasted fresh and was pretty good basic sushi rolls. Maybe it's me or maybe my sushi has become to "americanized", but I like places that have specialty rolls. I like the ones that have spicy mayo sauce, or smelt roe, or avocado slices on top, or tuna/salmon on top, or spicy pepper, or etc etc etc. In my opinion, Rokko was simply basic sushi. Don't get me wrong. It was good, just basic. Bottom line - Open on Monday (at least during the summer months). Good but basic sushi. I wanted more variety in the rolls. Personally, if I want sushi the next time I'm in Rome, I may try a different place first simply to see if they have better variety. If you do decide to try Rokko, I think you'll be treated well by the staff. They're friendly. Bon appétit.

They usually take reservations only; but you can sometimes get lucky (like we did as a table for two) by waiting before they opened for a walk-in spot. We did have to get there before their official 6pm dinner time opening and wait 45 min to get a seating time on a weekday (a line was already forming prior to 6pm), but it was well worth it. (Plus it was nicely air conditioned! Which was rare in center city Rome) Food wise, we got their zucchini soup, braised duck with plums, carbonara, and tiramisu. My husband really enjoyed the braised duck, and I ordered the carbonara, which was especially delicious -- it was a perfect pasta texture, nice and eggy, with small bits of crispy fried pork mixed in! It was so so good. I wish we could've tried more pastas here!! They looked so simple but tasted incredible. Servers were also friendly and attentive!
